Afternoon AT. Don't they still have that Office in Qatar now? Imagine that. Plus their release of prisoners from Guantanamo, and now They open their own Prison doors.

I noticed the Chinese were able to continuously mine the whole time.....yet no news of their people being attacked or killed. Nor their operations being destroyed. Did you happen to notice that as well?

I read something about lithium mine in Afghanistan? China uses the soft power much better then we do, they'll do business with the Devil, and the Devils of the world are quite willing to accommodate.

Still have their "embassy" ( or whatever in Qatar?) Last I heard after the US/Taliban talks stalled ( when Karzai had a fit over the Islamic flag), it was closed down -
but I could be wrong, never followed up on it.

I gotta find the article about the CIA looking to move out to central Asia to drone, if we do pull out.. ( think it was in the Washingtno Tribune.

Re: Karzai: "American military should “stop harassing” the Afghan judiciary

The Obama administration is making contingency plans to use air bases in Central Asia to conduct drone attacks in Pakistan in case the US is forced to withdraw all American troops from Afghanistan at the end of this year, a media report said on Sunday.

The CIA and the military used an air base in Uzbekistan to conduct drone flights until the US was evicted in 2005, said Brian Glyn Williams, a University of Massachusetts professor and author of the book "Predators: The CIA's Drone War on al Qaeda."

The US military also has used a base in Kyrgyzstan to conduct air operations, including moving troops and supplies into Afghanistan. The Pentagon said last fall that it would shift those operations to Romania this summer

some things never change, I suppose it's better then being tied to Afghanistan

I knew they were mining but I didn't recall what it was.....but have been noticing there hasn't been any Taliban attacks upon them. Or their people being kidnapped either.

quite a bunch of stuff, my friend - had no idea of all this - just the copper and the lithium.
    Afghanistan

After more than a decade of war and nation building, members of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan are heading for the exits. Although what the ISAF will leave behind is better than what was there in 2001, Afghanistan remains a battered land. However, the resources Afghanistan’s land holds — copper, cobalt, iron, barite, sulfur, lead, silver, zinc, niobium, and 1.4 million metric tons of rare earth elements (REEs) — may be a silver lining.

U.S. agencies estimate Afghanistan’s mineral deposits to be worth upwards of $1 trillion. In fact, a classified Pentagon memo called Afghanistan the “Saudi Arabia of lithium.” (Although lithium is technically not a rare earth element, it serves some of the same purposes.)
I suppose the Taliban aren't concerned about the Chinese droning them, so they leave them alone MMC

Interesting article..I guess it just doesn't matter what we do in that part of the world, it all crumbles into dust... Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, Iran.... Will we ever come out ahead of the game?

You will never be able to begin exploiting mineral deposits in Afghanistan until there is a trustworthy legal framework for businesses to operate under. Once you tackle that you have to make serious progress in addressing the security situation. But honestly I think massive corruption and legal infirmity is more damaging at the moment.

It also wasn't a 'classified Pentagon memo' it was a publicly released report commissioned by the military and publicized by both the Bush and Obama administrations for the benefit of Afghanistan and to bolster the mission.

Until you are able to explain exactly what coming out "ahead of the game" actually means, then I suspect the answer to your question is no. Does anyone really have a clear idea of what victory in Iraq or Afghanistan might have looked like? If you don't know what it is you are fighting for then how could you know when you've achieved it?
