US/west are still in negotiations with Iran over sanctions/nukes.
The leadership uses the "great Satan" to drum up hatred for the US. Tehran is a cosmopolitan city (more women's nose jobs in Tehran then even LA).

It is a big diverse country -look at it's SIZE on a map - doesn't help to keep hostilities .. if we can find a way towards less tension.

Bull, there are documented cases of human rights abuses, and also Iran is good at "hiding" things from the rest of the world. Just read about some of the atrocities in my post #777. How can you justify that to yourself? I would not want the United States to be "friends" with a country like that, sorry.

How could we EVER trust a country like Iran? We could never trust them. I'm sure they feel the same way about us. Actually, I'm quite sure they feel that way about pretty much every other country.

we don't have to be "friends" -what good does it do to keep them as strategic enemies? Saudi Arabia (our so called "friend") also hangs drug dealers -they are a FUNDAMENATALIST religious country.
Yet we have a strategic partnership with them.

You know what detente' is right? If it was good enough for the USSR , it's good enough for Iran. I don't trust them not to get nukes either (hiding centrifuges) ; but I don't really care.
Nuclear proliferation is going to happen -Saudi Arabia is looking for new partners, no reason they can't buy nukes from Pakistan ( the biggest proliferator).

Nukes aren't that big a deal; it's the one weapon that cannot be used. By marginalyzing Iran; it sets up tensions for no reason.
we have the 6th fleet there - they know they cannot use any strategic weapons - they are training foreign jihadists for Syria.

If we are ever going to 'solve Syria" we have to be able to talk. Talk is always better then cold wars.

Iran has never done anything to the straight. Talk is meaningless. Probably earlier, but at least since the CIA's 1953 overthrow of their government have they been mad. And that's a reasonable cause. How do you think the US might feel about Iran wresting our government from us and giving it say to the Green Party?

Oh, and that would NEVER happen thanks to our military might. I am VERY grateful for it too.

In a very public way, the US is executing people without due process, sometimes Americans, with our indiscriminate drone program that kills more unrelated innocent people then alleged enemy combatants!

That has nothing to do with Iran sending warships to the United States, nor does it have to do with why Iran hates us. I know it's difficult for you to defend Iran on their own merit, but please try to stay on point.

It is striking that those defending Iran as being almost more altruistic than the US in terms of equality in moral wrongs, as if the two can even be compared, are the same people that regularly abhor any melding of religion and state in the US, while embracing a culture in Persia that has at least since 1979, been dominated by a theocracy...
