Iran sending warships close to US borders[W:623]

Re: Iran sending warships close to US borders

I could deal with poisonous snakes, leeches and Charley. But I hate big rats and Vietnam was infested with them.

thats why cats are popular animals :)

Re: Iran sending warships close to US borders

I came to the conclusion, they were commie rats.

Nah rats are a big problem, cats are basically used to kill rats in vietnam :) if the rats are commies, the death to communism Lol

Re: Iran sending warships close to US borders

Indictments do not equate to convictions. Just to clarify. The case has not been proven in a court of law yet as the perpetrators are still at large. And those indicted were Saudi and Lebanese. Not Iranian.

There has since been additional information that has come out indicating that the allegations against the Iranian government may have been made in order to downplay the Saudi issue (that they had an active Islamist movement in their own country they were either unwilling or unable to contain effectively).

The organization responsible was Hezbollah Al-Hejaz (Saudi Hizballah). A Saudi Islamist group with ties to Iran. Certainly the link between the group and Iran is reasonable. Does that mean Iran directly sponsored the attack. Well that isn't so easy to determine in light of the new information that has come out.

US Officials Leaked False Story Blaming Iran for Khobar Attack by Gareth Porter -- Antiwar.com

So Iran's fingerprints aren't necessarily on the Khobar Tower bombing.

Antiwar.com? really?

Antiwar.com? really?

What's your point? Don't play the "I'm going to ignore your source because I don't like their name" game. The content is supported. Doesn't matter who the messenger is.

I don't usually play that game, either; but, there are some sources that aren't at all credible and Antiwar.com is one of them.

Unless you can actually discredit them your accusation isn't valid.

I discredited it, before you even posted it.

Re: Iran sending warships close to US borders

Regardless, what I'm saying is that it's not as clear cut as once thought. I do believe Iran supported Saudi Hizballah, as to whether or not they were the brains behind the attack is another story. There is certainly a case of vicarious liability to be made against Iran.

Let me rephrase then, if you can actually show proof that your discredit of them as a source is warranted you're just blowing **** out of your ass.

Antiwar.com are the clowns that claim that American forces directly killed over 1 million Iraqis. That lie, by itself, should be proof enough.

Care to prove that allegation?

Re: Iran sending warships close to US borders

They can sail up to a foot of our territorial waters as far as I'm concerned. We should make it our business to know exactly what they are doing while pretending to ignore them, until such time as they actually do something.

Again, the use of the word "we." We/your thoughts don't count. The US govt. doesn't care--it works for corporations, not you or me.

Re: Iran sending warships close to US borders

Maybe you should try actually living there for a while. Then you can really see how "rational" they are. :lamo You are hilarious!
I don think you understand what the term "rational actor" means when it comes to international actions, especially actions such as these.
Iran is a rational actor because the Iranian gov like any gov 1.)wants to stay in power and 2.)peruse its best interest
They are tired of the US sanctions and their military actions going on right outside their maritime borders, so what do they do they saber rattle. This is what they are doing to try to make the US make concessions. This is totally a rational actions.
Rational actor does not mean what kind of gov they are or if the are oppressive or not..
Are you honestly trying to pass off the mullahs who actually run Iran as rational? They are religious extremists.

Rational actor does not mean what kind of gov they are or if the are oppressive or not..

Re: Iran sending warships close to US borders

Are you seriously sticking up for Iran? Do you know what kind of things they do over there to their OWN citizens? Yet, you think that "we" are the bad guys? Good Lord! What's wrong with you? Our young people defending a regime like Iran is quite disturbing.

Did i say "we" are the bad guys or Iran is "the good guys"? Im not sticking up for anyone.....

Re: Iran sending warships close to US borders

This is dangerous? It might sink itself if one of those antiquated weapons fired. One Apache gunship, with it's 30mm M230 chain gun could mow this relic down.

Better yet let the Israeli's carry out the mission.

Pull the old gag routine, where you offer them a chocolate bar in one hand and soon as they take it, slap them with the other hand. It's pretty much what the State Department has been doing to them all along.

They may end up on Gilligan's Island.

I'm sure the Cubans or Russian subs would gladly supply them.

Modern navies strap advanced weaponry to them, in a modular fashion. Though we would have no problem destroying those ships, they could still pose a threat. How many more times are you going to make me explain this?

I don't know about anyone else, but I tire of Iran's threats.

Re: Iran sending warships close to US borders

Additionally, Iran is not sending 'warships'.

They are ending one small frigate (not a destroyer) and one support ship that has space for a helicopter(s) to land on it.

The media almost never gets military reports right.

This article is about the warship. For the bird, see Frigate bird.

A frigate /ˈfrɪɡɨt/ is any of several types of warship, the term having been used for ships of various sizes and roles over the last few centuries.

Yeah,, right! What's it got an Aegis Combat System? That thing couldn't launch a can of spam.

Already posted in this thread are the weapons it can fire (most made in Iran or sold to Iran by other bad actors).

And as far as the ship being old (70s, British), we have plenty of very deadly ship still in service from the 70's and even prior.

Those boats couldn't get within radar distance of the US Navy without getting doinked.

Here's a Tomahawk from a USS Destoyer, asking "Would you like a twinkie?"

The question isn't "who would win in open combat", its if they are a potential threat-and the answer to that is yes.

Any dip**** can fill a small speedboat, full of fertilizer and be a threat. You'd actually have more luck with that tactic, then rolling up on the US shores, in the equivalent of a rusted out 1970's Eldorado.

The question is, could they get close enough to hit the broad side of a dock. Answer is "hell no!"
