Or they might use it as an opportunity to attack the US. Still, we could have the navy screen the vessel while out at sea, and then have Iranian-Americans meet and greet them at the port.

These dumb idiots must think that if is only fair to do something as meaningless as this. If the US can hold navy maneuvers in the Persian Gulf the Iranians must feel it is fair to sail close to US waters as a "retaliation". Silly and pathetic but then again, we are talking about the Iranian government.

apdst, maybe you are just terrified of an Iranian destroyer, but they could sail down the Mississippi River and around to my front yard and I really wouldn't be concerned. If they want to mess with me, they'll have to deal with our guys. The best freaking killing machines on the face of this earth have my back. I think they can handle some middle-eastern dictator's puny destroy and a logistics boat.

If they were to attack the U.S. (which they won't) capturing them would be advisable. Otherwise, ignoring them makes sense because we don't need to show them we have tactical superiority in the West Atlantic.

It's been postured that if Iran tries something it would be an air detonated nuke to basically hit the grids with an EMP burst and disable the grid. That is why I take a couple of ships seriously, ultimately I think the U.S. population would send their entire military to Allah for judgement, but there would still be a lot of work done to fix the chaotic mess something like that would create.

Well, that would indicate that we consider their presence worthy of response. I think an unexplained sinking the moment they cross thee line says it a whole lot better.

Meh, either works for me. Personally, I don't care what they think as long as any bad actors see that we take our borders seriously. Whether the ships "happen to sink"(hey, **** happens) or they get lit up by a few superior units then either way the world would see that the U.S. water line means "do not cross".
