Rainbow Flag Will Fly Over Montreal City Hall During Olympics

You know what, I don't care if someone is gay or not, but I'm starting to get sick of it getting thrown in my face all the time.

I get it, your gay, I'm used to it, now have some decorum and keep it in your room. Just like I don't want to see people making out and fondling themselves in public if it's a guy and a girl.

I'm OK with their lifestyle, but don't need it rammed Down my throat at every turn.

Where's the marches, parades, flags and stickers celebrating heterosexuality? Families and family values?

it should get thrown in your face less when fewer places have different rules and laws for all those couples gay or hetero

where are the people attacking hetero sexuality and family's?

The cities of St. John's, Quebec City, and Montreal will fly the rainbow LGBT flag to protest the treatment of gays in Russia for the duration of the Olympics in Sochi.

This article can be found at the Montreal Gazette.

I hope more cities will choose to protest the anti-gay laws in Russia by doing this. Hopefully we can get more Canadian cities to do it as well as some American cities. Do you think that your/nearest city would raise the LGBT flag?

All right, good on them.

However, whilst not wishing to be picky, I just want to point out that they should get their own flag.
The rainbow has been one of the Peruvian national flags since as far back as the Inca.

the gay rights flag only has 6 colors unlike the 7 color flag of Cusco that has two shades of blue

the original did have 8 shades but the exclude shade was pink, then later on turquoise was removed

the 6 color version has been used since 1979 (also around the time indigo blue was changed to navy)

Heterosexuals aren't a minority.

Athletes in general can not have sex during critical events.

It is amazing watching the conservatives on this thread supporting fascism and hate. Good job showing true colors. it is remarkable.

Someone said gays were 1.3% of the population, it is much higher but let's say it is. What if the law were that Jews couldn't show their Judaism in public. I mean they are less than 1% of the population. What if the law was that Jews couldn't buy or sell with non-Jews, or have to wear identifying labels of some kind? Would you support that? Is that an acceptable approach?

You see the hate for gay people is so strong among some conservatives that they miss the point of what is actually going on here. Yes, these laws can lead to rounding up gay people and killing them. It has happened before. I wonder how many conservatives simply turned the other way when it did.

Well as supporting of minorities as flying the rainbow flag is in Montreal. Quebec is going the opposite way and trying to do exactly some of what you are talking about. In fairness to Montreal the mayor has stated he will violate the law if it passes.

maybe the flag hear is not about homosexuality at all could just be a sign that the people of Montreal are not going to drown any one ...again.... expect maybe a few Egyptians

Back when I was in high school, a boy and girl couldn't hold hands. Yep I got suspended for three days for holding hands with my girlfriend. So did she.

You couldn't even kiss on campus. So we just assumed you couldn't have sex on campus either.

We only had one known gay on campus and he wasn't that concerned with the no holding hands rule. His nickname was Buttman.

When I first joined the Military.....they told me I couldn't mess around with Females officers. They were Superior. :2razz:

I was like.....is this a Test? Now Ya know I will need to check on the good stuff Rights? Okay, so what if they mess around with me. Someone said they wont allow ya to get married.

No hate. It's gross watching a man and woman heavy petting in public... I'm talking about the same level of decorum.

It's much less tolerant of the lgbt community to force people into embracing the lifestyle. You get tolerance, and be happy with that, and I expect you to be tolerant of other people's beliefs.

You're completely missing the point. You are told conservatives ''hate" gay people and you believe it. Fact is many of us don't care one way or the other. We know people who are gay, we don't necessarily hang out with them because we don't share similar interests. But we don't hate them. The youth group at our church has a much higher percentage of gay people than out general population. Apparently some people think they can church the gay out of them. It doesn't work that way. They are good kids doing good things. Today they are going to a Winterfest concert and my 12 year old son is excited that he is finally old enough to go with them.

What we "hate" is being beat over the head with it. We get it. You are gay. Is there anything else important to you we may have in common? You know how pissed off non Christians get when they pounded over the head with ChristianChristianChristian OMG WE BELIEVE IN GOD AND SO SHOULD YOU OR YOU'RE GOING TO HEEEEELLLLLLLL. Yeah. Same thing. We know you are gay. We don't care. You want marriage to mean something different, we are not going to change our minds and neither are you. Get over it. People are different. It's not hate, it's indifference, and you are not going to change it.

ACtually it is YOU and others against SSM that are going to have to "get over it", because gay marriage WILL be legal across the land. So "Get over it".

YOU don't own the word marriage. It used to be marriage was between one man and one woman of THE SAME RACE. Things change, get over it.

Well the last time I checked heterosexual marriage was legal and discrimination against heterosexuals is non-existent.

Gay marriage doe snot affect you in anyway, so move on. If you accept it, it will go away.

Well the last time I checked heterosexual marriage was legal and discrimination against heterosexuals is non-existent.

Ya, even in places where the marriage is legal, that's not good enough, they want then coerce churches into perform wedding ceremonies. That is where the demand for equality becomes intolerant of others beliefs.

You ever been called a "breeder"?
(Me either, but I've been present when a friend with children was called this with disdain)

No, it's not all, and I don't care what two people who love each other do with each other... you get tolerance and I'm not a bigot for calling them out on pushing for more.

Gay marriage has been legal here for almost a decade, where are these protests?

This confirms what I've been afraid of, he LGBT activist have politicized sex.

Right.. because making homosexuality illegal does not politicize sex at all.

Great, but people on this thread are in fact supporting Putin under the guise of saying it is somehow okay to stop gays from spreading propaganda, but Putin's idea of propaganda is two people holding hands or saying I love you.

But we don't hate them. The youth group at our church has a much higher percentage of gay people than out general population. Apparently some people think they can church the gay out of them.

To suggest that conservatives don't hate gays is fine. But there are some that clearly do. My problem is that many are comfortable with oppression of gays.

It doesn't work that way. They are good kids doing good things. Today they are going to a Winterfest concert and my 12 year old son is excited that he is finally old enough to go with them.

So it fun to assume that it is okay to tell people that are damaged because of who they love.

What we "hate" is being beat over the head with it
.

How is that happenin?

We get it. You are gay.

I am not I just oppose bigotry...funny how that works you assume I am gay because I attack bigotry against gays.

We don't care
.

Then simply say what Putin is doing is wrong....stop trying to justify it.

You want marriage to mean something different, we are not going to change our minds and neither are you. Get over it. People are different. It's not hate, it's indifference, and you are not going to change it.

When you decide that it is okay to deny people their rights because of who they love then if it isn't hate what is it?

Ya, even in places where the marriage is legal, that's not good enough, they want then coerce churches into perform wedding ceremonies.

prove this statement

That is where the demand for equality becomes intolerant of others beliefs.

But since it isn't happening it is hard to judge.

You ever been called a "breeder"?
(Me either, but I've been present when a friend with children was called this with disdain)

wow doesn't it suck when someone calls you a name you don't like.....sort of decides the kind of person you are with no evidence.

No, it's not all, and I don't care what two people who love each other do with each other... you get tolerance and I'm not a bigot for calling them out on pushing for more.
