Texas gov candidate Wendy Davis supports open carry law

Texas gov candidate Wendy Davis supports open carry law
    Published February 06, 2014Associated Press

    Candidate profile:

AUSTIN, Texas – The Wild West tradition of openly carrying your six-shooter on the street has long been banned by many cities in Texas. But the state's next governor could change that.

Rising Democratic star and gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis has joined her top Republican rival in supporting a proposed "open carry" law. It would allow people with concealed handgun licenses to wear a pistol on their hip, in full view, while in public.

]Davis has said she supports expanding gun rights in Texas. But in a statement to The Associated Press, she said that includes open-carry -- a position that puts her at odds with her own party but could keep her from alienating gun rights advocates in a deeply conservative a state where the Second Amendment is sacrosanct.

Having warded off 2 road-rage incidents with nothing but carrying a gun openly, I support OC. Which ever way this election goes, I hope Texas can join the OC community sooner than later. Think what you will about OC vs. CC, but people should be free to make their own choice imo.

She's not a Texan (born in RI), she lied about much of her past (or manipulated the facts), after her second husband cashed in his 401 to pay for her education expenses she divorced him (gold digger), and she's using the OC thing as a political ploy. There's no way this fake blond Leftist likes guns at all.

Um, how is requiring paying about $240 for a state issued, constitutional right rental permit "free"? A Texas driving permit, for adding a mere state issued privilege, which includes training materials, the photo ID document, and the law/road test is $24. It is high time that we reassess what freedom means; we have our full set of constitutional rights unless and until they are taken away after due process of law. The moronic concept that we must now prove ourselves worthy, in the eyes of our gov't masters, to obtain individual constitutional rights seems a bit short of freedom.

Texas is one on the most repressive states in the country, on everything...

hell even in the namby pamby liberal state of Washington we can open carry with no license, and a concealed license is only 50 bucks, no training required, strict shall issue law.

Warded off 2 road-rage incidents by openly carrying? What did you wave it around while driving her car? Did you show it to the other driver once they stopped? I'm curious for some details here because this seems like an unnecessary solution to a problem, I've never felt the need to brandish a weapon while driving or wish I had a weapon to brandish and I can't imagine a typical "road rage" situation where a weapon is needed to resolve it. Now what I mean by road rage is what I've experienced which is something like someone driving way too close, or something I've seen only once is a passenger in one vehicle lean out the window to grab onto another vehicle. Simple defensive driving will get you out of these situations. If the term road rage means someone tried to run you off the road I'd call that attempted vehicular homicide instead, so I guess it depends on what you mean.

    Still what the heck?

Not on everything. They have strong right to work laws and no state income tax. I do agree that their ignoring of the meaning of the 2A should be stopped; it is "the right of the people to keep and bear arms" instead of two distinct rights applicable only to handguns.

I'm not going to get into the economic debate as it's out of thread topic, although we have no income tax here either... in fact a liberal group tried putting one up to the ballot a few years ago and it was trounced.... it's a non starter issue..

Texas has strict gun regulation, I think the Texas Family code, is another example of their overreach..... the documented problems with their death row system, their courts uphold all kinds of searches and seizures that would never be considered most places else... it just seems the kind of cases i read coming out of there, is just ludicrous, all kinds of things happen that would never be considered up here....

Unless one is a police officer, open carry is just an invitation to knock you in the head and steal your gun.

Besides, I'd rather criminals think everybody is carrying.

I suspect your right. She probably wouldn't give it to Texas as governor. But it prolly helps her with the vote.

That's amazing, and I thought Washington to be a rather liberal state.
