Open carry can be used for so much good in our society. If responsible gun owners who present themselves as well adjusted and functional members of society opne carry they in a sense can become ambassadors for the gun community. I was open carrying one day while going to home depot and I was able to help two women load a big roll of carpet into their vehicle. When they saw the gun on my hip they reacted surprised and somewhat concerned. After all was said and done those two ladies had a different idea of what a gun owner is like. We have to show society how awesome us gun owners are.

I generally agree --- sounds like she's scrounging for votes to me and what hot button issue will rile up the Texans? Guns of course! So blatant and obvious....
“I think if Thomas Jefferson were looking down, the author of the Bill of Rights, on what’s being proposed here, he’d agree with it. He would agree that the First Amendment cannot be absolute.” - Chuck Schumer (D). Yet, Madison and Mason wrote the Bill of Rights, according to Sheila Jackson Lee, 400 years ago. Yup, it's a fact.

It is high time that we reassess what freedom means; we have our full set of constitutional rights unless and until they are taken away after due process of law. The moronic concept that we must now prove ourselves worthy, in the eyes of our gov't masters, to obtain individual constitutional rights seems a bit short of freedom.
I said the choice should be free. I said nothing about the permit. In my state, and others, you can OC without a permit. I wish the whole nation were like that.

Incident 1: Late 2012. I pulled out of a car wash onto a somewhat busy main road. A white car behind me immediately honked. I guess they thought I had just cut them off. If I did it wasn't intentional. Anyway as I drive down the road they begin tailgating me. I let off the gas and my car starts slowing down. Usually this works with tailgaters. Not this time. We got up to a red light, cars on all sides of me. I locked my door, unholstered my Colt and set it on my lap (this is illegal in states where you cannot OC) When traffic came to a stop, the passenger of the white car tailgating me (an early to mid 20s white male with a thick jacket and turned DC cap) got out and approached my driver door. I waved my hand and then pat the Colt sitting on my lap. He immediately jogged back to his car and they went a different direction with the green light.

Incident 2: About 2-3 months ago. My brother forgot his phone and I was driving to his work to give it to him. It was near zero degrees outside, lots of snow and ice, maybe a dozen cars on the road. I notice a car waiving through traffic like Mario-Cart and approaching fast. I was traveling next to another car. Everyone but this one car was doing @35 in this 55 zone due to weather. This car got right behind me and tailgated me all the way to my brother's work. When I got there, the guy stopped back a ways. I turned on my phone's voice recorder and lifted my Carheart jacket over the handle of my Colt (Carheart lengths are short and this is pretty easy to do accidentally, too). The guy got out of his car and started sharing some creative adjectives Something along the lines of "...you cut me off you little ****....you know what you did....*F-bomb here*, *random insult there*". I got out right away and turned so that he could see my Colt. He stopped at once, a pause, then started walking back to his car still trying to impress me with his creative alternative sentence structures and knowledge of street lingo (which I thought was odd because he was a well dressed, well groomed middle aged man who looked like he had a life and a pension somewhere). He was gon when I came back out from dropping off the phone.

The only drama associated with Open Carry is the drama someone else brings.

Oh, I think this is exactly what she's doing. But to what point? Conservative Texans won't be fooled, I'll bet, and will Davis's ardent fan base be pleased?

GOP voters in Texas will never vote for Davis.
Gun liberals will now turn on her and may sit this one out.
The MSM was duped in the trashing of Davis as a golddigger.
The GOP has their ducks lined up for another 2010 sweep .

    I wouldn't call Davis a gold-digger; she simply launched a career an old-fashioned way.

As almost anybody can buy a weapon and legally carry it via a token permit process, gun owners are no more, and no less likely to be mature, intelligent or otherwise awesome than non gun owners. Nothing demonstrates this more than Dunn (loud music) and the Popcorn shooter.

Some states are quirky that way. For example, New Hampshire is one of the most gun friendly states in the nation. It has also gone democrat in recent elections.

I personally think anyone open carrying is compensating for something, and is pretty much a dumbass, but I think it should be legal.

Also, if I were a violent criminal intent on causing harm, it would be really convenient to know which douchebag I should shoot first.

edit: And if it were in Florida, I could just say I felt my life was in danger and I'd be acquitted!

All I can see is desperation. She sure did take a hit from her bad press. Appealing to gun owners in Texas is usually a gimme, but maybe there are demographics on the ground telling her team to try it.

Re: Texas gov candidate Wendy Davis supports open carry law

i was using quite a large brush to generalize gun owners awesome so I concede that absolutely there are some idiot gun owners. But I would contest that a strong majority of firearm owners are responsible and functioning adults who have been demonized by the mere fact that they own a gun. Open carry is a vital tool that could be used to help change the negative stigma that many of our fellow Americans have ignorantly adopted. It's almost like gun owners coming out of the closet to the rest of America.
