Pew: Almost Half of All American Adults Have Smoked Pot CBS DC

Seeing that 12 percent of adult Americans have tried pot in the past year....and given that that pot can be tested for in urine in one time smokers 7 days later and chronic users 2 plus months later.....it seems that the 1 in 9 stat is just silly.

It is silly, but Rocketman saw it on the internet so it must be true.

For someone who claims to have "worked in the industry," you sure are ignorant when it comes to facts concerning marijuana. Even a fool wouldn't deny that whether or not a person has smoked marijuana within a week or more of having a wreck, they would still test positive.

Also, you "working in the industry" means that that shred of objectivity you sometimes have is glaringly absent.

Pssssstttt, the information is not for "the public" and their perception....the information was intended to warn smokers so they do not test positive when they anticipate testing - they have a vested interest in information as accurate as possible. They even have a calculator that figures in your use and when to cut off to prevent testing positive.

"Subjects with detectable amounts of marijuana (it can stay in your system up to 45 days after ingesting) in their systems after a fatal accident have tripled from 4% to 12% from 1999 to 2010" would be more accurate. I doubt its a mistake this article just happens to coincide with recent legalization.
This wasn't a mistake. It is par for the course for Rocketman; if it weren't for lies and deception he would not have anything to post.

I have never smoked marijuana, but I support legalizing it 100%. I don't think that this article that you have shared proves that these accidents happened because of marijuana use, and if (in some small chance) these accidents did occur because of marijuana use, they're still significantly less than alcohol use. With that said cannabis can help millions of people with chronic pain, cancer, anxiety, severe migraines, and multiple other illnesses and problems in a natural way, as opposed to becoming addicted to overly priced narcotics offered by doctors that are addictive. Research has actually proven that cannabis use (in all avenues, including cooking) helps to reverse cancer growth and lowers high blood pressure. With everything good there is bad. People will be irresponsible with marijuana in the same way that people are irresponsible with alcohol and prescription drugs.

You are aware that a good chunk of the population is high all of the time and you have no idea, right? It's an unfortunate stereotype that everyone that uses marijuana becomes stupid when it fact that is 100% false. Besides legalizing marijuana wouldn't mean that you have to use it.

I had a very jaded point of view about marijuana a few years ago until I researched it further and realized that we're doing a severe injustice to ourselves by not legalizing, regulating, and selling/taxing it everywhere in this country. I've dealt with people that were high that I wanted to strangle because they made me crazy how incoherent they were, and I've also dealt with people I had no idea were high until I found out later. I then started realizing that these people that annoyed the crap out of me were also flaky and stupid people when they were not high. I wholeheartedly believe is a person by person basis, and not the plant itself.

Good lord, where have you worked? For five and a half years I was a designer for the Sherwin-Williams Paint Company and worked with contractors that were high every single day. I had coworkers that were high every single day and not once did I EVER run into a situation where ANYONE got hurt or hurt someone else because of marijuana. Alcohol, on the other hand, was a different story. What was worse were the Lortab and prescription pills these people were buying off of the street and using. THOSE created the biggest problem. Wherever you worked that had that many casualties because of marijuana must be one hell of a made up place!

That's a completely inaccurate and false statement based solely off of ill-informed uneducation. That is a damn shame that you're choosing to be so ignorant.

Re: Study: Fatal Car Crashes Involving Marijuana Have Tripled

blood tests show active use while urine tests, or fatty tissues (where the metabolites tend to concentrate) aren't able to show active use.

That said the sheer amount of toxicology cases would suggest at least a correlation that more and more people are using. It's common sense.

attempts to develop a breathalyzer test are still spotty, but improving; (see link below for details) - there are also field tests, but are not conclusive without finding other evidence

Marijuana Breathalyzer Close to Reality | High Times
What they found was that while every breath sample collected tested positive for THC almost immediately following the participant getting high, the only group to maintain a positive test after four hours were the everyday stoners.
Interestingly, while 90% of the part-time smokers tested positive for THC within an hour of smoking, none of them tested positive after about 90 minutes.

This means that a marijuana breathalyzer manufactured under these principles would only be effective for somewhere between 30 minutes to two hours immediately following a person’s participation in an old-fashioned toke and choke ritual
