A Temecula man who allegedly pointed a gun at a girl who knocked on his door to sell cookies on Sunday has been arrested, authorities said.

Because we have to stand our ground against Girl Scouts selling cookies.

I agree, it sounds absurd, but then who would think that a criminal would use a child to gain entry to a home? Who would think a criminal would use deceit to rob someone of their possessions?

Personally, I don't answer the door beyond a certain hour in the day and I don't ever answer the door unless I know who's knocking - partly because I hate people selling or collecting door to door.

I get it. But you should answer the door, or at least acknowledge you're at home in some way. Burglars are well-known to knock first.

My dog practically flies through the window beside the door anytime someone knocks or rings the bell, so no burglars are coming in with her on the warpath, even though she's harmless.

Yea, my Chihuahuas let me know when someone is around. Although I always have a gun within reach when answering my door, I would have looked out my window. Seeing it was a girl scout selling cookies, I would have politely opened the door unarmed and told her no thank you.

Any time I'm not EXPECTING company and the doorbell rings, I answer it with one of two things in my hand.... a firearm or a broadsword. I do my best to conceal it behind my hip/the door, but I'm sure there are times when some part of it is visible. I'm sorry, but my safety is much more important than someone who shows up unanounced getting a little shaken up by it. Thankfully I'm in a secured condo building now, so there are rarely people ringing our bell.

I appreciate that - depends on the layout of your house and the front door - not everyone can clearly see all around when opening the door. It's how a lot of home invasions get started here - mostly in the Asian communities.

That's about as absurd as it gets.

There's a mighty big difference between opening the door with the gun pointed squarely in the direction of the person standing on the other side and opening the door with a gun on your person. I think there's nothing wrong with having a gun in a holster or even in your hand but behind your hip when opening the door for an unexpected visitor. It's the whole pointing it in there face thing that I have a problem with.

Yeah, they haven't sold door to door here in a decade or more here either and this is a "safe" neighborhood with plenty of kids. They set up down at the local Alberstons.

That said, if the fellow was so into security he should have had a peephole at the very least, or a camera showing him who was at the door.

I've got a wonderful 30" Scottish style basket-hilt broadsword. It's a very nicely made replica, in steel, with a closed-weave basket and a semi-sharp blade. It's an excellent non-projectile home defense tool. It cuts, thrusts and that baskethilt makes a wonderful set of "brass knuckles". It's short enough to be able to work in close quarters but long enough to give a significant reach advantage.

There has got to be more to this. If they arrested the guy based only on an accusation that's more than a little hinky. That being said, if they questioned the guy and he said, "Yep. That's what I did." then take him away because he's a damned idiot.

Not really though a short sword would be faster. One motion is involved in a attack or defense.

Yes, a broadsword. A 30" Scotish basket-hilt broadsword. Cut/Thrust/Punch and short enough to be wielded with significant mobility in compact spaces. Probably the best non-projectile home defense tool I've ever come across. Scare the living crap out of people too.

When I used to fight in a medieval combat group I used a 32" longsword, so the broadsword actually feels better to me. The "range" for it is more natural for me than a shortsword or long dagger would be. The additional weight is also something I like.

Pointing your gun at a little girl? Nope you can' get much lower than that! SMH!

How in the hell can a man be charged with assault standing in his own house and everyone else outside? Only in liberal moonbat country.

Interesting. When I used to shoot competitively on a regular basis, one of our favorite "tricks" to play on shooters was to put a dress and wig on a "Threat" target right around the corner of a shooting position. Either that or put a "Threat" target down more at child's height. Despite all having the opportunity to walk through the course of fire before shooting it, there were almost always at least 50% of the shooters who would hesitate or completely miss the "female/child" targets. Not very good situational or operational awareness.
