That is a reference to the incident this thread is about.

Returning back to the topic: We don't know that any gun was pointed at anyone. It's CA. The man could have been cleaning a gun and answered the door with it in his hand and the father freak out. Then again maybe the guy is a paranoid and actually did intend to point a loaded firearm at the girl. We don't know. There's no evidence either way. There's only hearsay.

Wouldn't a halbard be more effective? You could keep people at a distance, and cut and thrust. I suppose the interiors would be an impediment, as well as the logistics of opening the door.

Actually hearsay is evidence presented in court through a third party. The police arrested the homeowner because an EYEWITNESS, that is first hand, says the homeowner came to the door pointing a weapon. You can call it an unconfirmed eyewitness account, but ya can't call it hearsay.

Now as far as trying to spin this to just cleanin' my 'gun'- I clean mine from time to time, I wouldn't think to take it in an inoperative condition to the front door. The law in most states doesn't require the weapon to be loaded and the shooter in a Weaver stance to qualify for pointing...

No I didn't reference the California man, just in general and for that matter a broadsword.

I don't have a basement and I'm a better shot while standing upright.

Better shot, perhaps- but for sure a better target... and closets work best for those without a basement....

I would not retreat to my closet, I'll leave that for those more like you.

Like I said, it's all a moot point. No one could surprise me in my house; even a Ninja couldn't sneak past my Chihuahuas without alerting them.

I don't cower anywhere - however, I'm at an age where uninvited "guests" aren't a highlight of my day.

I don't hate girls scouts or any other child centered activity and as for being a skinflint, you might want to ask the neighbour's kids about who buys up all their chocolate bars, cookies, chocolate coated almonds etc. and then gives them back to them, and who has the best Halloween treats in the neighbourhood.

Perhaps in Florida, although I doubt it, the criminal element isn't as inventive as it is here in Toronto - we get lots of "door-to-door" scams.

And let's not forget, there's a reason homes have doors - it's so people don't have to be disturbed by those they don't want to converse with.

I'm married. If my wife found me in any closet, she would demand that I clean it, so I avoid closets at all cost.
