You're supporting that as stand your ground and opposing his arrest is bizarre at best.

I appreciate that - depends on the layout of your house and the front door - not everyone can clearly see all around when opening the door. It's how a lot of home invasions get started here - mostly in the Asian communities.

That's about as absurd as it gets.

I do my best to conceal it behind my hip/the door, but I'm sure there are times when some part of it is visible. I'm sorry, but my safety is much more important than someone who shows up unannounced getting a little shaken up by it. Thankfully I'm in a secured condo building now, so there are rarely people ringing our bell.
There's a mighty big difference between opening the door with the gun pointed squarely in the direction of the person standing on the other side and opening the door with a gun on your person. I think there's nothing wrong with having a gun in a holster or even in your hand but behind your hip when opening the door for an unexpected visitor. It's the whole pointing it in there face thing that I have a problem with.

Yeah, they haven't sold door to door here in a decade or more here either and this is a "safe" neighborhood with plenty of kids. They set up down at the local Alberstons.

That said, if the fellow was so into security he should have had a peephole at the very least, or a camera showing him who was at the door.

I've got a wonderful 30" Scottish style basket-hilt broadsword. It's a very nicely made replica, in steel, with a closed-weave basket and a semi-sharp blade. It's an excellent non-projectile home defense tool. It cuts, thrusts and that baskethilt makes a wonderful set of "brass knuckles". It's short enough to be able to work in close quarters but long enough to give a significant reach advantage.

There has got to be more to this. If they arrested the guy based only on an accusation that's more than a little hinky. That being said, if they questioned the guy and he said, "Yep. That's what I did." then take him away because he's a damned idiot.

Not really though a short sword would be faster. One motion is involved in a attack or defense.

    ... a broad sword?

Yes, a broadsword. A 30" Scotish basket-hilt broadsword. Cut/Thrust/Punch and short enough to be wielded with significant mobility in compact spaces. Probably the best non-projectile home defense tool I've ever come across. Scare the living crap out of people too.
