Man dies after firefighters won't cross street to help, daughter says

Please quote your source for this statement!

Its self evident and a standard for any discussion or debate amongst serious adults, but if you want to troll and continue this one man crusade in defense of ignorance well I guess we'll all have to suffer through it.

Unions have silly rules. So do government bureaucracies. Either one of these two things was responsible or some firefighters should lose their jobs.

Exactly the point my original reply was meant to bring forward into this discussion, but it seem to have created a rather detrimental and off topic response from many who believe in the Alinsky rules of debate.

I replied to the original post, not the article itself. As the act of replying is not under a precondition, it seems to me all the comments about my reply are just opinion or intolerance of participation. Since this thread is not about my reply how about getting closer to topic now.

You're getting called out for saying something blindly dumb and partisan. It happens when you make a mistake like this. Instead of going with the victim complex, you could have just manned up, admitted the error, and moved on, and this wouldn't be happening.

You are a sensitive sort for this guy... I am not flaming the guy, just pointing out how ignorant his comment was and trying to HELP him back on the path of reasoned discussion. I didn't say his momma didn't raise him proper or he lacks the brain cells of someone worthy of apposable thumbs- I simply said he should make himself a bit more informed and not rely on knee jerk hack attacks.

Maybe you should stick to the topic then, you don't seem to be too good at off the cuff straying.

Personally if he had just said my bad and moved on I would have liked that post, instead he tries to get all uppity about it.

So you have problems with letting it go then, that's why you should stick to the topic.

And funny YOU try the same knee jerk response instead of sticking to the topic...

Me? I'd love to discuss the topic, I only made the post to try and get you to do such....What are your thoughts on the topic of the thread?

Just trying to have a teachable moment here

Oh, a teachable moment....How arrogantly funny of you....Who proclaimed you the boards teacher, hmmmm? Did anyone ask for your teaching skills to be employed? Or is it that you consider yourself just so smart that you have a duty to open your mouth and attack others with it? I've met people like you before, they are as annoying in real life as you seem to be here with your condescending tone of "teaching" us all something...It's laughable...Tell you what, why don't you give some relevant discourse on the firefighter that refused to cross the street, you know, the topic? I'm sure you know that, because you know all right? So much that you feel you can teach us all something....So, come on smartest person on the planet, teach us all something....Tell us your grand wisdom, that no one gives a **** about. Spew forth your pearls of wisdom, your pinnacle of enlightenment that will cause the sky to open, and chorus of angels to trumpet in your mere utterances....

Gheeze! Talk about dumb things to say.....

Generally speaking though, on the topic of the thread, you know the reason we are typing? I think that the firefighter that refused to help should be fired, and there needs to be a serious investigation into what went wrong there so it can be fixed. One of the things that helps when you buy a house, is that if you live in proximity to a fire station. Insurance rates can be lower for those locations...If this sort of thing becomes the norm, that certainly won't be the case anymore.

So how many replies from the non-partisan participants before they move on and return to topic?

Except for the fact that you didn't read the article.

So what is it when a Con plays by Alinsky rules? Like you did.

“A good tactic is one your people enjoy.” - rule #6....

They all need to be fired if this is even remotely true.

Come to think of it, are there any "good Samaritan" laws in that part of the country? If so, they should see jail time as well.

In D.C.? I don't think so...But the article did say that the Mayor, and the Union both expressed appropriate shock, and outrage that this happened, and the two senior firefighters in the station at the time are on leave pending investigation. Considering the outrage expressed, I would think they should be using the time to search the classifieds....The "newbie" is not on leave, but he shouldn't be, he asked his superiors, as he should have...

The same thing happened to me, I saw a head on collision in the state over and didn't know the exact address but gave detailed information on where we were but the operator was being rude saying "we can't help you if we don't know the street address" it was so frustrating. But what a coincidence about a block down was a fire station and someone on that side went in for help and they came rushing out to help.

Sometimes things just don't make much sense. I understand the idea of wanting an address to send help to but if you have a detailed description then what is the problem. Especially for a mall. As if the first responders are not going to have any clue where a mall is in their sector!
Just curious I wonder how they deal with someone reporting an accident on a highway where there are no addresses?

Something similar happened in FL as well related to a person involved in this article.

That's what the mile marker signs are for. Seriously, that's why they're there.

Ok you see an accident you are between 2 mile markers but never paid any attention to them what do you do leave the injured people to drive to the next one and say oh yeah ok the accident is between these 2 mile markers? Or do you say it is guestimate distance X before/after so and so exit or some other recognizable feature?
Not trying to put down mile markers they are useful but if some moron on the other end of a 911 call says sorry we cant help you because you didn't give us the mile marker they are in the wrong line of work.

Mile marker's and which side of the highway.

I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out there's a protocol to be followed, although so far it looks like it would have been fine to run out and help.

There are some really silly guidelines and rules out there.

Laffing, your CON game is tired. YOU keep the off the topic ball in play, like others have pointed out all the guy had to do was say, 'my bad' and the circus would have merrily moved on, but NOOOOOOO YOU keep whining about me...

So who made you the guardian of others in here? You are no moderator, you arrogantly step into something that was NONE of your business! :doh

You are a funny guy, whine about others taking a topic off on a tangent what did you call it? Off the cuff and yet the very reason i commented was a knee jerk ignorant comment a guy made but YOU have to keep the off topic crap flowing....

Practice what you preach... or at least try to.... :peace

I guess the 'smartest person on the planet' can't read too well. :doh

I'm not justifying anybody's bad behavior, just saying that's what the markers are there for. If you can say "I'm on Interstate 70 going east around mile 220," that narrows it down quite a bit.

Not only that but I am sure that the caller will most likely flag down the first responders instead of relying upon the responders being qualified distress locators in transit...
