Well, the only thing I can think of is that if they go off on an undispatched call, they could end up having dispatch call while they are there. That should be easily fixed though with a simple radio in to dispatch, so....

True....All they have to do is radio to dispatch that they are responding to a situation....

I agree but if you like most people were not paying attention to the mile markers you just have to give something else. Point is if you do not know the address or mile marker you should be able to explain where you are and that should be enough (assuming you gave a half decent description)

If the facts confirm the allegations following the investigation, I believe the firefighters responsible should be fired and barred for life from working for the District of Columbia. There is no reasonable basis for their failure to respond to a life-and-death situation. Moreover, municipalities do not prohibit staff from responding immediately to emergencies such as the one in question.

I fully agree with The Washington Post's op-ed: D.C. firefighters showed callous disregard for a man’s life - The Washington Post

Why just D.C.? Bar them from the profession for life!
The question is more important than the answer!

Well, from the article the guy just standing there was a new probie who didn't know yet what to do, so he did ask the senior person. And let's remind that not every firefighter is an EMT, it's not the same job. The senior people, with the training, should have dispatched themselves.

Because fire fighting is not a federal thing.
