Amanda Knox found guilty of murder again by Italian Court

Where is this 3/5 rule in the Constitution?

Article 1 Section 2. For purposes of counting population for determining the number of representatives in the House "other persons" ie slaves count as three fifths of a person.

Thank you. I forgot about that. :3oops:

So is large parts of this country, ex: wisconsin, where last i heard, $3000 salary means "you can afford an attorney," so that many have to defend themselves in court.

I can only speak to the federal system; The federal public defender's office in Cincinnati had some of the best trial attorneys in the entire district.

It's just a legal document. I agree with about 70-80 percent of it, the rest is crap.

For instance, you ever hear of the 3/5 rule? That's where blacks were considered only 3/5ths human. That's right there in the American Constitution.

Sure, it was amended, but that's the point.

Uh that is a simplistic and silly understanding. It was based on congressional representation The slave states wanted more congressional seats based on slaves. The North argued that since slaves could not vote, the south should not have additional congressional seats. The 3/5 rule was a compromise for the purposes of congressional representation

I don't see how these and what you call the "welfare state" are in anyway infringements on individual freedom.

.

I think you need to go back and read the post I was responding to. I don't think they are infringements on individual liberty either, but I'm not a Libertarian. I expect a Libertarian would have all kinds of problems with Canada's social programs. Hell, they hate ours and we are just Canada light when it comes to that sort of stuff. You have to realize that freedom to a Libertarian means something different than it does to me.

Actually, the simple fact he's a French citizen - dual citizenship - and he was actually detained on the international warrant in Switzerland, so your main argument would be with the Swiss - however, just like Knox is an American citizen and the US will protect her interests against what it sees as injustice, so too will France protect its citizen against what it sees as injustice. It's really pretty simple and there's no need for nation bashing because of this.

So its Switzerland that refuses to extradite him? And here I thought it was France. Huh! Those newspapers must have it all wrong. Polanski is about as French as I am.

In the US all they will do is get their revenge on you if you ever go back to court. Just look at what happened to OJ. Does anyone really believe he deserved the sentence he got for the crime he was actually convicted for? I doubt it.

Who cares? The murdering bastard is in jail, where he belongs.

He was never found guilty of murder. Sorry, but the justice system lost that case. The crime he was convicted for there was no reason to give him the sentence they gave him. He should get timed served and released.

There won't be a war for arresting Knox.

If the Italians seize a US citizen in any place but Italy, the USA should send in a hit team as it would be an act of war. My local gun club could probably take out the Italian military in about a day

The italians won't try it. They don't want their idiotic system raked through the wringer again

Is that why more of them immigrate here than the other way around?

It's because the US has more open immigration laws. If the Netherlands, Finland, or Iceland had similar immigration laws, they would go there instead.

and yet if the US doesnt get what it wants it throws the toys out of the pram...

True enough... but in all fairness, the British Empire did much the same in its day...

Any thoughts on who murdered the roommate? This all smells like that case in Natalee Holloway a few years ago. 2-3 people known to be in connection in the murder and yet nobody seems to know a goddamn thing.

The guy who was not part of the triangle who was a mope was also convicted. He seemed to be the obvious guilt party

He was never found guilty of murder? That's all you've got? Everybody who'd not an absolute idiot knows he murdered two people in cold blood.

Yeah, that must be it!:lamo

Rudy Guede? Yep. It sounds to me like he did it too. Knox sounds like she was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I think his history alone is more than enough to prove he was most likely involved. This is a guy who went from being adopted by a rich Italian family, to breaking into homes/businesses. Sounds like he probably was caught by the Brit during a break in, panicked, then killed her. Knox probably found the body, freaked the **** out (understandably) and then tried to make it look like she was innocent (which she was). I think in situations like hers, the best thing to do is stick to your alibi and call your local embassy. Being in Mexico for nearly 2 years has taught me one thing: When you're in trouble outside the US - call your bosses/embassy/people who know the local politics and shut the **** up.

I was unaware I needed more. If he was not found guilty than the case is over and it can no longer be used against him. The fact that it was used against him when sentencing him for a crime he was later convicted for is a miscarriage of justice. At this point in time if that didn't happen he would already be out.

Yep. About 8 months after I got here I was a passenger in a drunk driving accident in Mazatlan. The police took me to jail and then they realized I was a foreigner. To be honest, I was terrified at the possibilities. Here in Mexico, the concept of bail money is not that much different than ransom money. Cops keep you in jail for small **** and then set a bail amount that greatly surpasses what most people are able to come up with on the spot. I just shut my mouth and wouldn't answer with anything other than "Contact this number, get me on the line with the American consulate in Guadalajara". I gave them the number to the client I am working for and within 6 hours they had sorted everything out. Taught me one ****ing thing: Take a cab from now on.
