Republican Party bans MSNBC over 'offensive' tweet' [W:39]

Re: Republican Party bans MSNBC over 'offensive' tweet'

In truthfulness, that felt good Z.
I'm still a long way from being "there" so please be patient with me.

IMO, this is Priebus's continued mantra against NBC to not only prevent them from doing any GOP primary debates,
but the general election ones also.

Surely you see this game of Reince's, as astute as you are .
For the love of pete, why is it that so many people on both sides of the political aisle are so glarringly ignorant about what the first amendment means.

NOTHING about this is a violation or a disgrace to the first amendment. While the Republican Party has members who run for government, the party itself is not "the government". The party choosing to not do business with another business due to the actions of that business is not in any way a first amendment issue. At all.

God, we just got done with this round of idiotic thought with the Duck Dynasty folks and people claiming their 1st amendment rights to free speech were infringed (they weren't)...now we're going to have to hear it on this too?

Re: Republican Party bans MSNBC over 'offensive' tweet'

Agreed. It seems as though Reince Priebus is cutting off his nose to spite his face. Banning Republicans from appearing on MSNBC is pretty stupid, in my opinion. Perhaps the Republicans should bring Michael Steel back, I think he did a much better job than Priebus does.

Eh, disagree. I don't think it was stupid, I just don't think it's smart. At the end of the day it'll be a big nothing. MSNBC was obviously going to put out an apology and pull it, because it's just asking for bad pub. Much as Fiddytree suggested, while I'm sure most of the people over there feel that way, it's just not a good look to put it out there so blatantly and obvious. Basically it was a threat that had no need to have teeth on it....MSNBC wasn't going to let the tweet stay, so the Republicans weren't going to actually end up boycotting MSNBC, and in the process by making a fuss over it they just brought more attention to the tweet.

Now, I think the tweet was stupid but not worthy of some great outrage or anger because it's not really surprising...but I don't think it's a "cutting their nose off to spite their face" type of situation by making a pointless gambit to get it a little more media attention.

Ultimately, I don't think Republicans need to worry too much about pissing off MSNBC and Democrats don't really need to worry too much about pissing off FOX, because neither network is really gonig to likely magically treat them differently and neither networks common viewer is really going to be significantly receptive to their message if they're on the network anyways. That doesn't mean I think it'd be smart for either to LEGITIMATELY boycott the other; I think that'd be foolish. But this? It was an empty threat in my mind that was done for political reasons because Priebus knew there was no way that MSNBC doesn't take some kind of action regarding the tweet.

Re: Republican Party bans MSNBC over 'offensive' tweet'

One has to wonder why this tweet came out now when the commercial has been airing, at least in Canada, for seven months. Didn't we have a discussion about this ad here on DP last summer?

The only rationale for MSNBC to bring it up now is to incite racial animous and tension and by the hint-hint, wink-wink attempt to make it seem as if rightwingers are the only racists, it just prolongs the liberal left's obsession with exploiting race and racism for political gain.

Trust me, my response had much less to do with WHO made the comment I was responding to, and just the fact that I'm soooooo tired of people screaming "1ST AMENDMENT! FREE SPEECH" on things that it just doesn't apply. It gets old really quick.

I understand completely why Priebus did it. I see the political strategy for it, but I just don't really think it's that big of a deal to be worth it. But it doesn't really bother me, and its definitely not a free speech issue.

Re: Republican Party bans MSNBC over 'offensive' tweet'

I don't get it.
What about the tweet does the Right Wing find offensive?
Is there anything about the tweet that they would deny to be accurate or to be anything other than entirely appropriate?

Re: Republican Party bans MSNBC over 'offensive' tweet'

This is a small tissue.
let me guess ..you dont even know who that person was within MSNBC....
The biggest issue is the incessant name-calling of Obama, such as lawless, and daily threats of Impeachment.
And spare me the "DEMs did this to this extreme to Bush" crap .

Obama should be impeached.. hes a fraud.. spare methat hes even cut from the same cloth as GBW... GWB was not a radical who spent his life hating the USA

I'm not sure I see how limiting Republican exposure to the 12 or 20 people who faithfully watch MSNBC is going to harm Republican fortunes in the next election.

Claiming that the "right wing" as some kind of all encompassing entity has a problem with interacial marriage...which is entirely false and is the problem with making wide reaching, hyperbolic, bigoted statements such as that.

As highlighted in part by one prominent right wing media figure that's actively part of a biracial marriage helping to start the twitter anger towards the post.

But then, something tells me based on your completely obtuse, hyperbolic, hyper partisan post there that some common sense and reasonable judgement of a situation isn't something I should hold my breath waiting for out of you.

Re: Republican Party bans MSNBC over 'offensive' tweet'

Didn't Bush smoke dope also?
Or did those records get lost with his National Guard records?
Only Cheney was a bigger fraud than Bush last decade, since you're bashing Obama first .

Moderator's Warning:
There are literally HUNDREDS of threads on this board to complain about Obama/complain about the complaints about Obama....unless you tie it DIRECTLY to the topic or your arguments about THIS TOPIC I suggest you take the "Obama this and that" conversation to another thread

Re: Republican Party bans MSNBC over 'offensive' tweet'

I wasn't aware that Spike Lee was a right winger...

Re: Republican Party bans MSNBC over 'offensive' tweet'

So in other words, the article that they claim was a backlash was really just linking Youtube comments? One of the most tiring things about the new era in media consumption is that we are supposed to take seriously every time some random blogger, Facebook and Twitter comment contains racially, gender, sexual orientation-based offensive material. Organizations hardly matter anymore. All you need is the average citizen, under anonymity to say something unpolite for the media storm to happen.

Yep. What difference, at this point, does it make?

Did you just bring up Benghazi in a topic about a cheerio commercial?

Christ.

If you think those channels are about getting people elected, there is some bad news for you. They are about making a buck or two. Fox's ratings run circles around MSNBC yet Obama won the election.

Re: Republican Party bans MSNBC over 'offensive' tweet'

I would imagine that Twitter detail goes to some over-achieving intern.

It's just another in a long line of derisive and divisive statements to come out of MSNBC...

I'm waiting for when they're gonna give Ayo Kimathi his own show...

Especially after the bashing Obama is taking 24/7.
You don't mind a little fighting back do you cj ?

Good afternoon NIMBY - hope all is well.

I'm not aware of anyone bashing Obama about his race - I am aware of lots of liberals defending the indefensible with respect to Obama, dismissing criticism as racially motivated.

And fight back all you want - debate is nothing if there's no disagreement.

So the point you tried to make previously was fatuous nonsense? Duly noted.

Re: Republican Party bans MSNBC over 'offensive' tweet'

Rep. Huelskamp sure made an ass of himself on MSNBC with Rachel when he accused Mr. Obama
of playing politics with the soldier he honored at the end of his SOTU.
Tim was whining that the President didn't choose his choice of a soldier.
What a puke !

Could be - I don't pay a lot of attention to inconsequential, minor, representatives - and I don't get the US cable/political channels here, with the exception of CNN.
