Senate Republicans pitch ObamaCare alternative on eve of presidential address

Then there's pharmaceuticals. The asthma inhalers I use cost $50/ea here. Mexico? 3 for $15. TEN times as much in the states. Ridiculous verging on criminal.

Yeah I'm in the same boat with needing to use inhalers. Luckily I'm service connected at the VA for mine.

The price is insane.

So its going to be paid for with fairy dust and dreams? This is a serious question, the mandates in Obamacare are unpopular but they are also the thing that pays for all the benefits that everyone loves, you can't have your cake and eat it too kind of thing, if the Republican alternative can't even answer a basic question like "How will this program be funded" its just a stupid joke for stupid people.

Well, I think we will have to see the specifics to know. Right now all we have is the opening sales pitch...And if Harry Reid won't even consider letting the bill be debated, then we will never know will we? That has been his tactic all along.

It has to go up for debate before we learn how its funded? Why is that exactly? The Republicans released all the other details about it, the feel good details, the benefits, so why can't they release the figures for the costs as well?

Yeah, kind of reminds you of O-care doesn't it? I mean, remember this:

And then, we got the ACA that front loaded all the goodies, and now we are finding out daily what is in it...People being dropped, and next up, people like me with employer based coverage being dropped....But, your double standard requires that NOW you want to see all the details? Isn't that convenient?

Ya exactly like that, I thought Republicans held themselves to high standards. Guess not :/

Demo's constantly eat our lunch by repubs holding ourselves to "higher standards".... It's time to play demo's game right back at them, then watch them squeal.

Well, when they've got you by the lungs...

Which is, at the end of the day, the problem with for profit healthcare.

So then you're for doing the same thing you complain the Dems do. Yeah that makes sense :doh

sounds like the GOP is just wanting to play games then instead of solve problems. Not that the Dems are solving problems, but hey, I guess that just makes the GOP like the Dems.

So you're suggesting they pass a law where we don't know whats in it that could screw American people to get back at Dems for passing a law where they didn't know what was in it and screwed a lot of Americans?

How does that help anyone exactly? Or it just not supposed to help people but just to spite the Democrats? Is this an honest alternative to Obamacare or is it just something to **** with Dems over? Are the Republicans actually interested in governing or is it just about politics?

You know having a higher standard means you stick to it even when other's don't, that's the definition of a higher standard.

At this point, until we take the Senate we really can't do much else....Demo's have been masterful at controlling the narrative that repubs are obstructing while they have Reid block everything....So, we are going to have to start playing their game like it or not....

No, and I'd appreciate if you didn't misrepresent me, although I know that may be too tall an order for you. We haven't seen the actual bill yet, and it was just announced, so let's wait to see if it gains enough traction to see the particulars. But, at the same time, you can't say we aren't coming up with anything anymore. At least and be honest about it.

So it is about playing games, and you think the GOP should be taken seriously why?

Also, Boner has blocked things as well. Seems you are for the tit for tat game which accomplishes nothing. Thank you for proving yet again why the Dems AND GOP should not be taken seriously.

The games are being played by demo's....

The games are being played by demo's....

No, they are being played by BOTH sides. Which is why neither should be taken seriously. Even YOU just proved that now.

The games are being played by demo's....

Please, they're both as bad as eachother and if you can't see that it proves that you're a Republican stooge who shouldn't be taken seriously.

Between one company that will screw you... or another company that will screw you.

You know it's interesting that Americans concept of choice doesn't really hold up when you analyze it.

As an example they did a test on this.

In North America, you put all the pepsi products on a table and it was seen as a choice between the various ones.

Performed the same test in Eastern Europe and it wasn't seen as a choice because it's all Soda.

Put pepsi next to water, orange juice and tea and that was seen as a choice in Eastern Europe.

I think when it comes to HMO's, what Americans see as choice is very delusional when so many of these companies major aim is for you to pay higher premiums and get less care.

Very good, I like this. Over time we have become conditioned to minimal choices and think we really have a choice.

I do not take either of the two major parties seriously. They are both supported by a lot of the same corporations and wall street firms when it comes to getting their money. Both takes millions from these folks to include the health insurance industry. To go against these moneyed folks would lose their tens of millions in campaign donations. One should realize whether one supports the Republicans or the Democrats, they are playing into the hands of these faceless, nameless money folks which stand behind the two major parties and give them their money to spread their propaganda.

So, sounds like if you have a pre-existing condition, as I do, which has kept you from getting insurance in the first place, you're still screwed, as it only covers changing from one insurer to another without a lapse in coverage.

False, the plan has the same state high risk state exchanges that existed before Obamacare. It even offers you a subsidy to purchase a plan if you are indigent.

Those countries don't have a swath of unproductive government co-dependents that abuse the healthcare system at every turn for every thing. There is a very small percentage of Americans that put an enormous strain on the healthcare system because they are non-contributors to the economy in general. For the vast majority of Americans, the system needs minor tweaks only. It works very well for them. The problems are in New York and LA, so the the itch is getting treated like terminal cancer.

I think what we need to do is create an underground railroad of sorts that delivers Central Americans who cross the US border directly to Canada.

or we could simply enforce our immigration laws

or we could simply enforce our immigration laws

I've given up on us ever having the will to do that. What we need to do is convince those opposed to immigration enforcement that Canada is a better place for our illegal immigrants (not a hard sell since most of them already believe that) and they will help smuggle them across the border willingly.

It would sure be fun to watch Canadians have to deal with the influx of illegals and the effects on their welfare state.

No the Republicans certainly have come up with something, all credit due there, years and years too late but its something, now lets just see a complete bill.

When it is codified in legislation then I'm sure it will be available, and with more time to read it than we got from "the most transparent administration in history."

Its an excellent criticism that the ACA was not passed with sufficient time to review the entire law, I would not want to see that happen again because its bad governance. Now do you want the Republicans to actually allow their bill to be fully examined or do you want to just rush it through in the exact same manner which the Dems did?

In other words I'm asking if you have any real standards, or just bias
