Grammy Awards to feature live on-air mass marriage ceremony- NYT

The OP's article uses the term "mass marriage," as do other articles. "Renewal of vows" or "re-commitment ceremony" or whatever, the interruption was a stunt, one that served to cheapen both "marriage" and the Grammies, in my opinion. What a challenge for the Oscars to top this, though.

I don't know if you're married or not but if you are, is your marriage any less now than what it was before the Grammy's? Has anyone else's marriage been lessened?

Or are you just complaining because there are people who disagree with you about the meaning of marriage?

I would agree except they were all already married, the ceremony was just renewal of their vows. Not at all the same as a mass marriage.

Then is was just a show and another way for celebrities to pat themselves on the back as being enlightened?

And what exactly is marriage about? Family? Love? The bonding of two souls? The joining of two families? The desire to live, laugh and grow old with someone through the good and the bad? I mean, seriously, what is marriage truly about?
It's about men boning women with god watching and approving. Everyone knows this. Marriage has been exactly the same for 10,000 years. It's never changed. It's always been a dude and a chick.

Does anybody know the breakdown of who the couples were?

Gay, lesbian, interracial?

Sickening, to say the least.

It's sad to see those with perverted sexual appetites flaunt their disgust publically.

Yes. Those damn heteros flaunting their perverted sexual appetites. Gross.

I'm a vehement supporter of SSM but this seems really weird and gaudy. Marriage is supposed to be a solemn commitment between people, not a publicity piece for an awards show. I also find mass marriage to be really culty personally.

I think it actually encapsulates the SSM movement quite nicely, in the same way that modern feminism was nicely encapsulated by Beyonce shaking her thonged ass at the crowd.

You cannot possibly support “same sex marriage”, and still hold any respect for what marriage is truly about.

And you can't hold true to being a small government conservative and impose your religious doctrines with such fervor.

Marriage does not belong to you and things change.

Reminds me of the movie Scrooged with Bill Murray where he wants to televise the baptism of the entire Zulu Nation.

I liked scrooged but its been so long since i seen it i dont remember that part, i do remember the part where the promos were supposedly killing people (scaring them to death) lol

this makes it even more beautiful :)

If I agreed with Madonna's politics I'd have to question every decision made since birth.

I know, with such morals, you'd think those red-blooded heterosexuals would show them the way to moral, decent programming.

No surprise that the same bunch who supports degrading the concept of marriage, by putting forth such a sick mockery as “same sex marriage”, would also treat marriage as a cheap publicity stunt.

Marriage is about love and committment. It has nothing to do with a penis or vagina.

For the love of christ, why must EVERYTHING become political. Could it be at all possible to imagine an award show about Music being simply about...oh I don't know...music.

I don't care what the political stance is, sometimes It'd just be nice to have things in life to enjoy that isn't trying to make a socio-political message.

Music has played a huge role in socio-politics and vice versa. For many....music is the way to express politics. Its not all bubble-gum pop.

That was probably one of the coolest things i have seen on TV in a while.

as for its nature i agree
each couple and many of the audience members overcome with joy and emotion over equal rights and civility.

Living in this time of progress on this issue is amazing, i know i say it a lot but there honestly was a time where i never thought id see equal rights in my life time for my fellow americans on this issue, now its guaranteed.

again some people simply dont care about rights or freedoms.
If they dont like it they want to condemn it. ANd that is thier right and i support that too, if they are fine exposing thier bigotry and or distaste for equal rights its fine by me.
In general weddings are SORT OF private if you ignore all the guest lol

Im not gay but i do come from a very mixed family of religion and races. there are a handful of religions and a couple races in my family.

my parents had religion and my dad was black and my mom was white. Ive talked about them in some length a couple times. Thier story and the reality they had to live is amazing and scary at the same time to me. Its amazing what they went through and didnt have one hint of chip on thier shoulder, no anger (no doubt where i get it from). I mean interracial marriage wasnt national until 1967! thats crazy, thats the life they lived.

they were shunned by SOME friends and SOME family, they lost jobs over thier relationship were denied housing etc etc

THIS is the disgusting acts that are still happening to gays now and its repulsive. Since i live in reality and support equal rights i see what these people were doing.

Ever read a book or seen a movie or heard a song and the people in love say i just want to let the whole world know i love you, "I want to scream it from a mountain top"

Well?

this is no different

this is what those people feel like they were doing and I cant imagine the intensity of that feeling when you encounter roadblocks and people along they way that say "YOU'RE NOT ALLOWED"

some of them for DECADES were told NO, you're not allowed to love the person you love

but now they can and some made thier free choice to do it on tv, GOOD FOR THEM!!!!!

i can easily see how they were overcome with emotion :)

WOW THAT WAS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!

so many non-dry eyes in the crowd, men and women
queen latifah almost couldnt even get through it she was so over come with emotion

34 couples getting married together all equally old, young, gay, straight, different religions, different races, interracial and more.

Totally awesome and what AMERICA, FREEDOM AND RIGHTS is all about!!!!

#EqualRightsAreWinning!!!!!!!!!!!!

it was pretty lame. The entire show was pretty Lame though Beyonce looked hot as usual. The Ringo retread song that was big when I was in HS was a yawner. I am pissed "The National" didn't win. Some serious talent there. I know the father of the twins Aaron and Bryce (Deshner).

I love that equal rights makes you so upset :) its reassuring that america is doing the right thing

any facts to back up this claim?

Bam!!!

1.) I liked the wedding part
2.) I do agree overall the show was lame in general and i think beyonce is overrated, hot of course but many say she world class how

I thought the mass marriage was a cheap publicity stunt to try to bolster what was a piss poor show

I think you're confusing a bunch of weirdos getting married during a music awards show with Woodstock. i get the two confused all the time.
