Azle Residents Take Their Earthquake Concerns To Austin « CBS Dallas / Fort Worth
Some Azle residents believe there is a link between local fracking injection wells and a series of recent earthquakes. In a one-month span, about 30 minor earthquakes hit the area.

The Texas Railroad Commission regulates oil and gas operations. Earlier this month, more than 800 Parker County residents attended a meeting hosted by TRC Commissioner David Porter at Azle High School and pressed him for answers about the earthquakes. However, some residents left the meeting more angry and frustrated than when it began.
“We need to get some relief for people who are having their homes damaged by these earthquakes,” said Sharon Wilson, Texas organizer for Earthworks Oil & Gas Accountability Project.

Fracking wouldn't be a problem in the Energy Corporations owned up to their damage. They don't. I'm not anti-fracking as long as they benchmark water, drainage, strata stability, and possible fault issues before commencing. As it is, to prove a case against the frackers who screw up, you have to have millions of dollars to drill into the formations to prove your case. It is backwards. Test first and if any changes occur after fracing, it is the frackers fault and liability. The frackers always deny that they have caused any problems and states like Texas and Pennsylvania sell out to Big Energy.

Yeah, I agree DaveFagan.

@Tettsuo, this type of consequence will happen no matter what type of resource extraction is occurring. Fracking is no more dangerous than mining, logging or farming. You'll always have someone's foundation that cracked from mine blasts, or lawn ripped up due to the carelessness of the lumber trucks or the runoff from a farm; it's the end result of living in a society that requires raw material to function. Otherwise we're going to have to give up on wanting warm homes and cooked food.

In this case the Azle residents are doing the correct thing by going to the Texas Railroad Commission and chewing them out. The whole reason the state DNRs and regulatory agencies like the TRC exist is to hold the raw material companies to a promise of minimizing damage and being accountable for any screwups.
