Gov. Cuomo: Pro-life people not welcome in New York

Nonsense. George HW Bush, while VP, questioned the citizenship of atheists, asserting they cannot be patriotic.

Documents Prove Bush Questioned Citizenship of Atheists

I think that's far worse than what Coumo said. After all aboration and gay sex are legal, assault weapons are not. Meanwhile, GHWB assailed freedom of religion, but from you and yours, no poutrage.

1. If you call that proof I've got some UFO books you should read. It has the same level of credibility.
2. Even if true does that proves what?......That Cuomo was right to slam half the population as "extremists"?

As governor, Coumo has the right to tell morons with assault rifles who want to take away people's rights to stay the hell out of his state.

ok so you don't know what an assault rifle is.

So I will tell you want an assault rifle is.

An assault rifle is defined as any gun with a selector switch that enables the gun to go full auto or 3 round burst.
In order to own said assault rifle. you must possess a class 3 weapons license, you also must have a permit for each one and said gun cannot be made after 1980.

while an AR15 can be modified into an assault rifle it is simply an semi-auto rifle.
which you can pick up at any sports store.

owning a gun doesn't take your rights away. so once again you don't know what you are talking about just like cuomo doesn't know what he is talking about.
the more this continues to go on the more people trying to defend the idiotic thing he said is just that idiotic.

Bush said it. There are several sources which documented it.

People who are against abortion, pro-assault weapon and anti-gay are far from being anywhere near "half the population." 20% would be generous; even less in NY.

Whatever you call it is not my concern. I don't get all excited about which guns do what and how they are named by the people obsessed with them. The gun law in NY, however, is clear on the matter. As was the court decision upholding said law. They don't care what you call it either.

Hey. Don't like it. Don't live in NY.

Please provide a link or two. Oh, and define your term. How do you measure "anti-gay"? Is there a difference between opposing SSM? (Answer: Yes.)

Hey. Don't like it. Don't live in NY.

That's a flat-out lie. If it wasn't for the improperly used term "assault weapon" there would be hardly a debate about guns. The problem with "Don't like it. Don't live in NY." is slime has a way of creeping to more areas. Bloomberg's meddling is a good example of that.

Who's taking rights? Coumo? :doh

Good. Abortion and being gay are legal, while assault weapons are not. Sounds like Coumo wants to keep it that way.

This is more of a general question to anyone; what is an "assault" weapon? You know, vs. one that also put holes through objects with bullets. What is Cuomo talking about? Machine guns? Or just a pistol? A pistol can be used to assault someone quite effectively.

it isn't whatever I call it. it is what it is the proper definition of an assault rifle. I don't care if you don't get all excited about guns. It isn't an obsession it is the proper definition of an assault rifle.
The judges decision is being appealed as well, because it was the wrong ruling.

People have the right to bear arms. owning a semi-automatic rifle is included in that overall protection as the right to bear arms.

Hey stop forcing your myopic view on other people, but I guess you don't care as long as it agrees with your view point.

I already asked him this question and he doesn't know what an assault rifle is and by his response he doesn't care.

he is like Cuomo anyone that doesn't agree with his views doesn't belong wherever he is. of course the left are suppose to be open minded and tolerant of other peoples view points. ol the irony is just to much.

Gotta love when posters have no or terrible argument go with 'I'll post idiotic stuff but you are not allowed to respond'. :lamo

What ever side one is one in what ever issue, emotions and perceptions are important. Especially to the one who is feeling them. Neither emotions or the perception may be right with either the reality of the situation or the truth of it. But it is how they see it and to them it is the truth. It is my view that when someone becomes so passionate about an issue it is a beautiful thing. It shows they care. Almost half of all Americans do not vote in a presidential election and only around 35% in the mid terms. They are just too busy trying to live their lives and take care of themselves and theirs, they don't pay any attention or even get involved in what their own government is doing. I say let passion and emotions rise, at least this means someone is paying attention.

If he had said pro choicers aren't welcome, anti choicers would be cheering .....

That's the way it works, I do not think Cuomo's statements is a help to New York, but in the grand scheme of things, it won't hurt New York either as outside of a few political sites like this one, his statement hasn't had much if any play. But New York has been losing people and businesses for quite a long time due to their high taxes, regulations and mandates. Cuomo is trying to attract some of these businesses back to New York by promising no taxes for ten years if they relocate to New York.

Remember, at one time New York had 47 electoral votes and was the most populace state in the nation. Today they are down to 29 and in the latest census bureau prediction they will lose two more seats in 2020 knocking them down to 27. The people who Cuomo doesn't like have been voting with their feet for a long time taking their businesses with them. I live in Georgia and we have quite a lot of New York companies relocate down here.

Cuomo does have a leg to stand on. Women could get legal abortions in New York before the Roe vs. Wade case was decided by the Supremes.

it caused more issues than he thought it would. people are mad up there more so when you get outside of NY city and into places like upstate and other more rural area's were people are less liberal.

he wouldn't be in back peddle mode if he felt that it didn't have much play. personally NY is only 2nd worst to CA. the only reason NY stays relevant is because of wall street.
without that NY would crumble to the ground.

the reason is people like Cuomo. disagree with my point of view and well you just don't belong here. the open mindedness and tolerance of the left wing at it's finest.

Re abortion: Americans' Abortion Views Steady Amid Gosnell Trial
Just looking at gun laws, we see that the Extreme Right is in the minority on most all gun control measures. And, in the case of background checks, they are an extreme minority--less than 15%.
Among them:

• Would you support or oppose a law requiring a nationwide ban on the sale of assault weapons? 56 percent supported, 42 percent opposed.

• Would you support or oppose a law requiring a nationwide ban on high-capacity ammunition clips, meaning those containing more than 10 bullets? 56 percent support, 41 percent oppose.

• Would you support or oppose a law requiring background checks on people buying guns at gun shows or online? 86 percent support, 13 percent oppose.
Daily Kos: Poll: Americans still favor background checks, assault weapons ban, gun magazine capacity limits

Abortion breaks down the same way. For the most part, those who oppose all abortions are an extreme minority, consistently falling below 20% of the population.
Abortion | Gallup Historical Trends

The American opinion on Gay Rights is a little less liberal than those on abortions. With 31% of them saying same sex relations should be illegal.

So, although there are a lot of anti-gays and pro-assault weapons folks out there, those who want to ban all abortions are but a tiny sliver of the American population. Hence, my estimate that only 20% of the country, at most. are the extremists that Coumo referred to is dead-on accurate.

Write your congressman or something then. As far as I am concerned. Coumo has every right in the world to tell those obsessed with owning assault weapons who want to deny other citizens their right to an abortion and same sex relationship to stay the hell out of his state.

BTW, an assault weapon is what the law in NY says it is. Don't like it, don't go to NY.

Who's taking rights? Coumo? :doh

Read his quuote. He's pretty clear on what he said. The poutrage, IMO, is the Right imagining that he said something else.

No. It's what the law defined as an assault weapon, which a court upheld. If the law declared a p-shooter and assault weapon, and a court upheld the ban on them, then that's what it is. If a court declares it's not; then legally it isn't.

He's referring to weapons banned in his state by a new law which a court upheld in late December.
Judge upholds most, but not all, of New York's assault weapons ban - latimes.com

However, most of the posters here have created their own imaginary boogyman on the subject, and they are all running with their own definitions, like chickens sans head.

that is being appeal because the ruling was incorrect because they used the wrong definition of an assault rifle.

get over it. what Cuomo said was idiotic. trying to defend what he said is even more idiotic. he is a gov. and is suppose to represent all the people in his state even those he disagrees with.
saying that people that disagree with his point of view are not welcome in NY and are not NY'ers is idiotic and stupid and he should be held accountable for such statements.

Trying to defend what he said is idiotic and there is no defense to it.

An assault rifle is a selective fire (selective between semi-automatic, fully automatic and/or burst fire)

that is the official definition defined by just about any website out there. a law making up it's own definition of what an assault rifle is not correct.

So, your answer is that Coumo gets to choose what rights are okay? WOW!

He basically said the haters and their assault weapons are not welcome there. I like the gusto in that. Libs are usually all squishy and nice. About time one called it like it is. NY doesn't like haters or their guns.
