Surgeon General adds to List of Smoking's Harms.....

Not here, just bought a carton today, total? = $37.48 total cost with tax included.

Hell...they're more than that on the reservations out here.

I get mine form the reservation. Carton, $20. I buy 20 cartons at a time coz the res is 45 minutes away. :)

Anyway to those that say you're an idiot for smoking, yeah I can agree, BUT, had I known how really bad they were when I was 13 I would never have tried it. Or maybe I would have, I don't know, but at that age you really don't have a good grasp of reason.

Tim-

Actually Ecigs are mainly sourced from small, independent companies. AFAIK only Blu is a Big Tobacco product.

Chicago, NY and L.A. are the 3 most overbearing cities in America. They loves them their micromanagement and I thank The Flame that I don't live in any of them. We're a bit mellower in Las Vegas.

Well SB.....we have been known to mellow those out from NY and L.A, literally!!!!!......its a shame they are all ran by the left who have proved for decades they can never get it Right.

Well, 2014: "The tobacco industry continues to introduce and market new products that establish and maintain nicotine addiction," Friday's report says. The percentage of middle and high school students who use electronic or e-cigarettes more than doubled between 2011 and 2012.....snip~

What a ridiculous statistic that is meaningless without the %. Besides, how many of those students were already smoking Tabaco cigs ? How many quit smoking because of e-cigs? Even the FDA says taking nicotine in other ways than smoking is far safer. Don't you want our kids to quit smoking those cancer sticks?

I assume "never get it Right" is a pun.

Well, for all their flaws and ludicrous laws, these are the three seats of power and money in America. So, how can we be sure they got it wrong? I mean, I can't abide either of the three but that's where the money is. I feel like we should learn something from this - but what?

I think that 50 years or more of constantly being in debt and looking to file bankruptcy as states.....says it all. Don't you?

Yeah.....we learned that the Democrats have Champagne tastes and a beer pocketbook.

Yeah.....I would like to see damn near most of the country quit smoking. Then we can watch these Politicians panic about the money they can't make off it, anymore.

Some will straight out have a heart attack.....course if they did want to solve the problem. Then put the tobacco companies out of Business and don't make Cigarettes anymore.

Smoking doesn't "cause cancer" people are either predisposed to cancer of the lungs, throat, mouth etc or they're not - smoking may exceed the inevitable...

We all die of cancer - when we die of old age we die of cancer.

Cancer is genetics...... There is no cause for cancer...

That's why 2-year-olds are born with cancer -- it's not a ****ing disease it's an illness.

I've always found the cancer hype built up around cigarettes to be amusing. The truth is that they are in the same class of carcinogens as wood shavings and tylenol. Some people can smoke a quarter of pack a day for two years and wind up with some form of cancer while others can smoke 5 packs a day for 40 years and never have so much as a malignant cell their entire life. I'm inclined to agree that smoking cigarettes is either incidental or, at worst, merely one of a combination of factors when it comes to cancer.

Genetics are a major factor in cancer - well unless you were part of government experiments... Or the unfortunate communities that had experiments tested on you (small scale experiments)...

The cold war really ****ed everyone up didn't they?

Can you bring me up to speed about states filing bankruptcy? I never heard of this before. But I looked and think you are wrong State bankruptcy bill imminent, Gingrich says | Reuters Are you thinking of cities maybe?

Not sure you're correct about that beer pocketbook either. California is the 8th largest economy in the world. New York is the financial center of the world. Illinois provides thick, juicy steaks.

The government want's something to demonize and tax...

If our government gave a **** about young healthy folk - they wouldn't send them off to be murdered in war.

If you're a smart young individual you can go off to war and have a job and a college education while those ------ You know limited IQ fools sit around and smoke government gas to see what happened..

I suppose our military isn't as fashionable as it was 60-years ago but it's by far just as evil ..... I'm not talking about the soldiers...

Well so far they have ruled Cities and counties can not states.....but that still doesn't change the economics.

You didn't think Illinois crawled out of Insolvency now do you?

As Illinois' fiscal crisis deepens, the word "bankruptcy" is creeping more and more into the public discourse.

"We would like all the stakeholders of Illinois to recognize how close the state is to bankruptcy or insolvency," says Laurence Msall, president of the Civic Federation, a fiscal watchdog in Chicago.

"Bankruptcy is the reality that looms out there," Republican gubernatorial candidate Andrew McKenna Jr. says.

While it appears unlikely or even impossible for a state to hide out from creditors in Bankruptcy Court, Illinois appears to meet classic definitions of insolvency: Its liabilities far exceed its assets, and it's not generating enough cash to pay its bills. Private companies in similar circumstances often shut down or file for bankruptcy protection.

"I would describe bankruptcy as the inability to pay one's bills," says Jim Nowlan, senior fellow at the University of Illinois' Institute of Government and Public Affairs. "We're close to de facto bankruptcy, if not de jure bankruptcy."

Legal experts say the protections of the federal bankruptcy code are available to cities and counties but not states.

While Illinois doesn't have the option of shutting its doors or shedding debts in a bankruptcy reorganization, it seems powerless to avert the practical equivalent. Despite a budget shortfall estimated to be as high as $5.7 billion, state officials haven't shown the political will to either raise taxes or cut spending sufficiently to close the gap.....snip~

Illinois is the state I know the least about so I won't even try to defend them. But NY and CA - what states are more prosperous?

5th or 8th may be affected by the rise of other nations rather than the falling of that state. China and India are newcomers to the super-size economies.

NY and CA are also the 2 states that are most guilty of micro-management so don't get the impression that I'm supporting their methods.

All three use to make up 2/3rds of the nations economy.....something that the Democrats should never got a hold of. As you can see.....with Illinois and Chicago alone it has been a good 75 years of absolute failure by the left. Also it is something that Democratic Politicians avoid talking about at all costs.

Course Emanuel shows all just how much they want to micro manage others lives.

Only a handful of States currently have a provision for filing bankruptcy in their State Charters. Many States are having debt problems, the same as many individuals, but what does the federal government have to do with that? Perhaps they should concern themselves with the $ 17+ trillion that they owe?

California may be the 8th largest economy in the world, but it alone has more than $ 600 billion in debt, with $ 62 billion currently owed to pensions and healthcare costs...and that amount is growing, according to State officials. New York's public debt is about $300 billion. As a comparison, the entire country of Greece has $ 423 billion in public debt.

Greetings, specklebang. :2wave:

That is such bull**** it's insane...

Which era are you talking about in the first place?

I mean a bald man could say "hey I used to have hair"...

Not at all.....the Democrats should never be allowed around Big money.

From the late 40's to now.....although technically even when Thompson was a Mayor of Chicago. The Democrats had already gained power thru the Boys of Prohibition.

So, I'm curious how you feel this will all turn out. The Federal government can create money pretty easily but the states really can't. And yet they manage to keep on increasing their debts.

I'm astounded that the country can have a 17T debt and yet they just keep passing new laws to enforce and creating more debt to enforce them with. It should have collapsed long ago but the US Dollar is still what the whole world wants.

The only explanation I have is that most politicians love to spend money, even if they have to borrow that money from others. Unfortunately, most of them are lawyers, not economists. The handwriting is on the wall, though. For the past 50 years a country such as Australia, or Chile, or France, as examples, who wanted to buy oil from Saudi Arabia had to first convert their currency into dollars to pay for that oil, since the dollar is the world's reserve currency, and was accepted by everybody for buying and selling. Recently, though, more and more large countries are in the process of bypassing the dollar, since they are becoming alarmed by our inability to control our debt, and hence, the dollar's worth. If enough countries join in the argument, it will not be good for us, since we enjoy some monetary perks by being the reserve currency for the world, such as borrowing at a lower cost, which saves us at least $ 100 billion dollars a year in interest charges. I don't want to see us losing our reserve currency status, but it looks like we might, and sooner than anyone expects. When the MSM, and the wealthiest people in the world, start talking about the possibility, which they are, we'd better pay attention!

For the moment, perhaps. It apparently is in the process of changing, as more and more countries are becoming alarmed at our inability to control the dollar's worth.

More nanny BS showing the greatest harm to smokers may indeed be the government and non-smoking fanatics.

Less concerned with the smokers than those they are around all the time. Like their kids. Or the rest of us who have to walk thru their 'clouds' and smell like smoke after. Not necessarily a health hazard, but an infringement.

No. You're a ****ing addict who is sold these cigarettes because big business comes first and the victims take the blame.

May I ask your age?
