I find it hard to give a ****. Dead enemies are dead... which is sort of the point of war, in part at least. Burning bodies for sanitary reasons has been practiced in many times and places when burial was not feasible. Etc.

I dunno, nothing particularily shocking, my opinion. Like the one comment said, which is worse, a burned skeleton or a rotting corpse?
There's a book out by a Canadian journalist called, "The Dogs Are Eating Them Now." He'd been attached to a Canadian army unit in Afghanistan and some of them had dragged a couple Taliban bodies out into a field, hoping to bait the enemy into coming to get them in the night. It didn't work, and the quote is from the soldier reporting that the trap had failed.

So let's see. US soldiers attempting to thwart disease by burning the rotting remains of enemy fighters deemed worthless by their own comrades is considered shocking.

Seems to me the bleeding hearts need to screw themselves.

The concern here is that burning the bodies is against Muslim religious requirements for burial. Burning bodies, like decapitation, is believed to keep the dead from reaching heaven. This is on par with burning a Koran.

Personally, I don't blame these soldiers. Anything that helps dissuade jihadis from seeking their 72 virgins is A-OK with me.

:agree: If cremation isn't an option, perhaps the bleeding hearts should consider digging holes in the ground for the enemy graves, saving themselves from such a shock! Seriously, you couldn't make this stuff up if you tried!

Better question: Who was stupid enough to photograph it?

I agree that burning bodies is kind of grisly. However, as other posters have pointed out, it might've very well been necessary given the circumstances (assuming that the photos are legitimate, of course).

The pictures tell the stories. The bodies were rotting and decayed. This is sensationalist tripe.

:shrug: Like I said when the whole brou-ha-ha about the snipers pissing on Taliban was going on; if anyone thinks that war isn't bloody, gory, and desensitizing, or that the human mind doesn't react to horror with humor as a survival mechanism, then they have no experience with what they are talking about. They burned some bodies? So what? Unless they were throwing living people onto the pyres, I'm not really seeing the problem here

:) I can just see some guy peeking over or around with a scope, turning back and saying "Well, ****. The dogs are eating them now." :lol: those afghan dogs are no joke - I had a buddy get sent home by one, all tore up.

I actually don't see any evidence that these individuals are Marines.

Only two photo shots of someone in a uniform given in the article and I see no identifying markers: unit badges on shoulders, etc.

You can buy military uniforms in a large number of places. Until there's investigation and they determine that they are, in fact, soldiers, I'm not going to give it much attention.

Yeah that was my first though...should be pretty known by now that you don't take pictures like that because they spread everywhere. Other than the PR problems it creates *shrug*
