U.S. appeals court kills net neutrality [W:23]

Re: U.S. appeals court kills net neutrality

No, they shouldn't.

You don't choose who to purchase electricity from, BTW. You either purchase it from the one provider you are given or you don't get electricity. Even if government-sanctioned monopolies ended tomorrow, this wouldn't change.

Depends on where you live.

Re: U.S. appeals court kills net neutrality

Im not a right winger, but I agree that FREEDOM is good for the market. If you dont like the power company, dont buy their power. A company that tried your tactics would quickly go out of business. Problem solved.

Sadly govt does exactly what youre saying, and people dont care. "we dont like cigarettes, light bulbs, coal, or oil. we are going to charge you extra, or ban them"

Your solution to an abusive power company is literally "don't have electricity." For some reason, you think this means more freedom.

Re: U.S. appeals court kills net neutrality

Depends on where you live.

Your response doesn't follow the trajectory of the discussion. Electric utilities should not determine which appliances are appropriate for use. If it were the case, they would be financially inclined to prohibit efficiency saving devices. That market concentration obstructs new supply is just another reason to reject your position.

No it doesn't. The nature of electricity prevents real competition in this manner.

If the electric utilities infrastructure would be degraded for all based on you turning on your super-microwave, then they would restrict your power draw as to not degrade the system.

Re: U.S. appeals court kills net neutrality

Aside from Deuce's valid argument that the amount of investment required to develop the infrastructure for a competitor is way too high for any investor to take on given the risk/return, you are also completely ignoring the fact that, should Deuce be wrong and someone actually does do this, you now have competition between...two companies. Some choice!

No you would have competition between two technologies.

You can make all the excuses as to WHY a solution that hasn't been invented can't or won't work. The simple fact is that if there is a demand there will be a solution developed.

Re: U.S. appeals court kills net neutrality

Yes they should, so long as you choose to purchase electricity from them.

No all they can do is refuse to supply you power. If you are willing to pay for it, how you use it is your business.

I only need point out the fact that it hasn't been invented. A solution that hasn't been invented can't work because it hasn't been invented.

By your logic, there is not enough demand for warp drive.

No.... As with any large company, the will work with you to safely and efficiently meet your energy needs. If a residential customer is drawing obscene amounts of power from the grid, they will only investigate if it continues to occur. In fact, the police use this information to target illegal cannabis growers in non medical/decriminalized states.

What you have just described is pure fantasy.

Of course it hasn't because up until yesterday there was really no need for it. What do you think, thechnologies are developed in 24 hours!

Actually its 'dont have govt monopolized electricity'. Theres nothing stopping you from generating your own. WInd, solar, gas generator, geothermal, or heck, steam, hydro, etc. You could even sell it!

You misunderstood my example.

You are probably right. The comment didn't make grammatical sense.

Look, it's one of those people who doesn't understand barriers to entry in a market.

You mean like the barriers to social networking or space travel?

Re: U.S. appeals court kills net neutrality

And then more competition from corporations who dont censor. Free market win.

LOL yea right, in a country where you are lucky if you have more than one ISP available in your area, and the ability for new competition to get into the market is often blocked by local laws?

Thats an argument in my favor for less govt. Thanks!

If it was only that! It is the ISPs that have put the laws in place in the first place! Do you really think Comcast and other cable companies are against local laws that prevent competition on the cable market? Of course not! They lobbied for the laws in the first place!

The problem is not government but business influence on government. Government is suppose to be by the people and for the people.. it is suppose to protect the people, not work against them. Government should be opening up markets, forcing Comcast to sell its capacity to competitors so you create more competition.

Feel free to run YOUR govt that way. Leave ours alone.

So you are against the free markets and competition ... not very libertarian is it?

Some people have this notion that the government can only take away freedom. They fail to recognize that sometimes protecting the freedom of the markets requires limiting the freedom of a business.

I know... it is very strange.. they have no problems with business abusing people, but when it is the government then all hell breaks loose..

What does "abuse" mean in your post?
