I think people can live without coal if they had the means to do so. Water is somthing no one can live without.

True - but can people live without employment?

And lets not forget that this isn't a coal industry accident, it's a chemical industry accident.

West Virginia's economy is heavily into chemicals, manufacturing, and other energy and resource industries. Just because this particular chemical that leaked into the water system is primarily used in the coal industry doesn't mean it's a coal industry problem.

History shows us that neither the FED nor the coal industry is capable of common sense or regulation.

The residents should know this by now.

Not in an area where the local economy operates as if it were still the 1920's.
It is not very unreasonable that the rich should contribute to the public expense, not only in proportion to their revenue, but something more than in that proportion.

Remove employment and there won't be any need for water because all the people will have moved away.

From what I see, West Virginia's economy is pretty modern, with chemical production, biotech firms, aerospace, research and development, alternative energy, etc. etc.

Perhaps your view of the West Virginia economy is what's stuck in the 1920's

You are the one who stated that a reduction in coal activity would cause this "pretty modern economy" to fall apart.

If there's no risk to this spreading to other states then there's no reason for the feds to get involved.
