I don't know where the kid is getting it. I imagine that he must hear it at home, but I've never heard my buddy or his wife talk that way in front of the kids.
It doesn't even matter where they get it. You can't wrap your kid in a bubble, although, at that age, you can still have some say with whom they associate.
But as soon as you let your kid talk like that without taking it aside immediately and spelling out the facts of life, you own it.

Some things are just simple, basic, commmon sense. I don't think anyone, on any part of the political spectrum doesn't see the problems caused by these types of environments. On my fiance's side of the family there are five nephews and two nieces. Out of those SEVEN kids ranging in age from 2-10, there are two that I think might have a fighting chance of having better lives than their parents; the 10 year old and the 2 year old. The five in the middle are already being sucked down into the void that their parents are in. That is horribly unfortunate. Five (and possibly up to seven) young people whose lives may be destroyed before they're old enough to understand what life really is. All because their parents can't even get out of their own way.

I understand you are trying to diminish the severity of this video for whatever reason, but this toddler already knows some pretty horrible words and phrases.

Do you think it will get better or worse as he gets older?
Clearly, what you're suggesting is in line with the underlying reason the local Ohama Police Association posted the video. They weren't trying to "clean up the streets" directly. They are advancing the notion that "criminal behavior starts when the child is young" same as what you're suggesting (which, BTW, was same argument D.L. Hugley made with a female caller to his show). As such, the message the Omaha Police Association was trying to convey is, "If we catch this type of thuggish behavior while (Black) kids are young we can reduce the amount of street violence that takes place in our communities early". Nothing wrong with that in theory. I just have a problem with them using a toddler as their poster child for criminal behavior. Of course, I fully understand where many posters are coming from when they watch the video and hear the kid cursing and throwing up gang signs. But let's not forget that most of that was being encouraged by the uncle and his female friend.

I agree with you that if a child goes unsupervised and is allowed to conduct himself in the manner inwhich this toodler was being encouraged to act, then yes if allowed to go unchecked changes are the child will likely grow up and get involved with criminal activity. Fact is, we're all a product of our environment. Thus, if you live in a culture of ignorance and violence chances are you'll grow up exactly that way. So, I'm not disagreeing with you in that sense. The video is disturbing, no doubt about it. However, I saw it more as a toodler being encouraged to say and do things that perhaps his mother wasn't aware of than a situation where a mother allowed her child to behave that way. Nonetheless, does the child have the occasional slip of the tongue and uses foul language of his own accord? Yes. Does the child conduct himself with an attitude of thuggish, street-like behavior (i.e., throwing up gang signs), yes. But here again, the behavior was being encouraged overall by the uncle and his female friend.

I think the best thing that could come of this situation is for Child Protective Services to step in, separate the child and mother from the uncle, get the young teen mother into parenting classes, and monitor the family dynamic.

Ummm... if it's fake, it has no basis in reality, so comparing it to reality doesn't make much sense. Have there been any actual instances of someone shooting someone who was victimized by the "Knockout Game"?

Ummm it does have a basis in reality-even if this particular incident is fake. Young kids screw with the wrong person and may get shot. Ive seen it personally.

BTW-the legal term applied to the knockout game is assault and it carries a higher penalty in some states when an elderly person is attacked.

You missed the point. The article was fake. Something like that has never happened with anyone who has done the "knockout game", at least as far as I know. You stated it was not unique. Unless you can find an instance of when it actually happened. your assertion is not based in reality.

Sure, but for the purpose of this discussion, it makes sense to call it the "knockout game" so the conversation can flow appropriately. But of course it is assault and the idiots who do it should get the entire letter of the law thrown at them.
