U.S. economy adds just 74,000 jobs in December

Your conclusion seems to be that as long as there are some jobs being created all is well since every other jobs classification measurement is holding steady ... they ain't, my brother.

I've said nothing of the sort.

Nope ... the definition tells the story.
Your conclusion is simplistic ... faulty.

Tells what story? Because your original premise is dead in the water. The U4 rate is always higher than the U3, by definition. The number of Discouraged workers has not increased, while employment has. These facts do much to explain why you've glaringly failed to provide any documentation for any of your claims in the way of supporting data.

Did you know that currently the Government considers you to be in the U3 group only if you've been looking for work in the last 4 weeks?
That should help disguise how crappy the unemployment really is and enable Administration supporters to keep the scam going.

The bolding of the term currently is rather unnecessary. This is the definition that has been used for many administrations prior.

Businesses usually hire additional seasonal employees in December for the holidays. That 47,000 new hire number seems very low to me for a national count. It will be interesting to see the January figure.

Greetings, Bubba. :2wave:
Yes. The bureau also seasonally adjusts to account for these discrepancies. Thus, the headline figure for these months will typically be significantly lower than the actual amount of positions added.

That seems to be the method taught in schools but that doesn't mean that is how it works in the real world. The majority of jobs are from small businesses and we don't operate that way. If you need to hire a bunch of people maybe, but we are looking for specific people, not place holders. If you are relying on finding a job using those methods the job you land is going to be one of those soulless corporate positions anyway. I wouldn't want one of those. The people I hire are persistent, and they keep showing up until I either hire them or tell them why not. It's the same way I did it when I was looking for work. I get plenty of people who walk in and hand me a resumee and never come back. We call it drive by application and it is reserved for those who don't really want a job or are just checking the box for unemployment.

Small businesses like what? Only "small" businesses that hire around where I live are restaurants, mostly. Care to share what sort of business you run?

Becoming a soulless corporate shill is more or less an inevitability for most of us, as most of us are ambitious and desire to have earning potential beyond 50k a year some day. Larger outfits provide room to grow. Small business jobs tend to be dead ends.

The problem is that progressives only understand "safety net" and "collectivism" - not individualism or personal financial responsibility.

In progressiveland the government exists to financially support you - and that breeds a **** ton of lazy clowns that don't know how to do a damn thing other than suck off the governments teat. This is why it's more logical to continue to accept unemployment and welfare rather than get a part time job - because the benefits exceed what a part time job can provide.. The problem is that the majority of available jobs are PART TIME - sadly but true (thanks Obamacare).

please tell us why it is smarter to work part time and realize less money

please tell us why it is smarter to work part time and realize less money

It's not smarter but the only jobs available are part time jobs - Obamacare did that.

The problem is that the government benefits exceed what a part time job can provide, hence moot the entire idea of having a part time job or even a full time job at McDonalds or wherever that pays minimum wage.

Politicians are epic idiots.... Most don't know this because they have never worked an honest service job on a hourly wage their entire life...

They're ignorant to the difference between paper and practice.

I own an auto repair shop. I decided after being in this field for 20 years I wasn't going to be happy trying to retire from it the way most people do. For one thing it can be physically difficult, and I know a lot of guys who turned wrenches in to their 50s and 60s until they physically couldn't do it any more. I'm not planning one being crippled when I retire. It's been almost 7 years since we opened and I'm looking to sell it and retire in a little over 10 years, ideally to employees. $50K a year is very realistic for a good tech here, and the cost of living is lower than most places nationally. The job I left to go on my own paid $23 a book hour and I was capable of an average per week in the mid 50's. The average household income here is about $43K last I checked. Even better is making that and then purchasing that established business. I see it fairly often in trade type businesses.

then why are you griping about people choosing the smart option

then why are you griping about people choosing the smart option

You whited-out everything I posted so why the **** should I take your question seriously?

I don't play those games...

You progressives do.

I don't debate with people who feel the need to ignore aspects and highlight others to ATTEMPT to make a point.

you admitted the smart option was NOT to accept part time employment, in order to maximize income
so, why are you whining because people choose the smart option

There is a huge swath of people that simply won't work no matter what opportunity is put before them. The DNC masterfully exploits and draws its lifeblood from it.

And you know that how? Just because you hate your job is no reason to assume all Americans are like you, jealous of those that can't find a decent job.

It's not smarter but the only jobs available are part time jobs - Obamacare did that.

We interrupt your regularly scheduled partisan talking points to bring you these facts:

And now back to your regularly scheduled partisan programming...

Except it is. Only 60% of the labor force is working. If you don't work you don't pay payroll taxes.

You said 40% of the population, not 40% of the labor force.

I'm not - the government enforced those ideas with Obamacare, businesses were only looking after their own asses.

In short the government manufactured this conundrum of nonsense.

Yeah I know you enjoy reading that ****..... Then you step into reality and say "what the ****" these people with money are assholes because they don't give us jobs.... As if the intent and purpose of a business is to provide you with a job... You see - that's how ****ing far off we are in our thinking.

please explain how Obamacare causes prospective employees to avoid part time employment which part time employment nets them less income

In short the government manufactured this conundrum of nonsense.
again, share with us how the government manufactured this scenario where it is smarter to avoid part time employment in order to realize greater income

All that gibberish has absolutely nothing to do with how you said Obamacare was forcing a creation of part time jobs and how I completely destroyed that with facts.

Gibberish?

Ha....... Employers are not on the dole of paying for their employees health care coverage - including the Obama mandate.

That's why the majority of jobs are part time..

Employers owe you NOTHING more than your salary - they're not in business to care for you and your family - get that through your head.

WTH. In CT, auto techs make 10-12 an hour, and then there is usually one senior on staff that MIGHT make over 20 an hour...after having been there for years.

It's a crap field around here, I know, because I looked into it. I'm pretty handy with cars. Sounds pretty good where you're at. Maybe it's due to competition? Up here, it's mostly chains, or dealerships. Think meineki, or the like. Not a lot of mom and pops. Used to be a lot, but most have gone under. Machining is where the monies at in auto work, around here.

You are lying. I'd say you were mistaken but you said this before, I provided evidence to the counter and you said it again.

Here's something for you:

Don’t Blame Health Law for High Part-Time Employment

Obamacare is from 2010. Look as the surge of part time jobs. It predates Obamacare.

It sure did where I work. I've cut all the non full timers (about 60 people) done to 27 hours a week, as mandated by my superiors, I assume in response to the new healthcare law defining full time as being 30 or more hours per week. Then hired on more part timers to compensate.

No, they are in the business of making money.

Question. Does a business stand to make more money if their prospective customer bases has more money to spend, or less?

The only "evidence" I accept is reality.

You can produce as many charts as you like but those charts don't emulate my community.

So in Mr. Nick's world, anecdotal evidence trumps actual data.

SHORTER: "Gitcher fancy charts outta my 'reality'!"

So now progressives understand that idea? - the idea that your employee is also your customer.

Ask the government that question.... I would love to hear their answer too.

No, they're too busy throwing taxpayer money at alleged "non-profits" that drag people into vote democrat er their voting base.
