Meet The Eight People Who Are Ruining Chris Christie's Week

Patrick Foye, Executive Director Of The Port Authority Of New York And New Jersey

An appointee of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, his role is small, but crucial: He testified before a legislative committee that no traffic study had been planned, contradicting the excuse offered up by Christie allies.

The Christie people are trying to fight back

Former Port Authority exec files lawsuit to quash subpoena in GWB probe : page all - NorthJersey.com

David Wildstein, the executive at the center of the decision to close lanes at the entrance to the George Washington Bridge, filed a lawsuit in superior court today trying to quash the Legislature's subpoena of his testimony, according to a spokesperson for the court.

The lawsuit said the subpoena is invalid for a number of reasons. Wildstein's lawyer, Alan Zegas, questioned the validity of Assemblyman John Wisniewski's signature on the subpoena.

Bridge scandal: Meet Chris Christie and the other major players | NJ.com

    DAVID WILDSTEIN
Former director of interstate capital projects at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey
Wildstein met Christie when they were classmates in Livingston High School in the late 1970s. He served as Livington’s mayor from 1987 to 1988, and then left elected office to join the family floor mat manufacturing business. In 2000, Wildstein secretly founded the New Jersey political news site PoliticsNJ.com — now PolitickerNJ.com. He used the pen name Wally Edge, which he took from the former New Jersey governor and U.S. senator whose support led to the creation of the Port Authority in 1921. Wildstein’s identity was revealed in 2010 when he was hired as director of interstate capital projects at the Port Authority, a $150,020-a-year position that had no job description. Wildstein, 52, resigned in December amid the GWB scandal.

Ex-blogger is Governor Christie's eyes, ears inside the Port Authority : page all - NorthJersey.com

For a decade, he was a faceless force in New Jersey politics, an Internet blogger who delivered scoops while keeping his identity a closely guarded secret.

Now, David Wildstein, formerly known by the pen name Wally Edge, is playing a key behind-the-scenes role in Governor Christie’s effort to get more control over the Port Authority, the bi-state transportation agency that has come under increased scrutiny since raising bridge and tunnel tolls in September.
    <snip>
And in Wildstein, an experienced political strategist who went to high school with the governor, the Christie administration may have found the perfect instrument to help shake things up, some say.

Longtime employees, however, privately describe a man intent on carrying out a political agenda rather than one built on reform or improving the region’s transportation system. They believe the appointment of Wildstein and dozens of others recommended by the governor — for jobs ranging from toll collector to deputy executive director — are evidence that political loyalty trumps merit.

One person did. But apparently, she was a Democrat, so according to Christies aides it was 'OK'.

This issue may finish Christie in national politics. He won't get a pass from the media when he starts berating some teacher or nurse who questions him anymore. The amusing bully aspect of his persons just turned real and petty, and if he doesn't do some amazing damage control he will be forever stained.

Exactly. The average voter will only remember that it was Christie who used his powers to create traffic gridlock. Just as the only thing the average voter can remember about Howard Dean is his ear piercing screech.

Christie is in a no win situation. If he admits to engineering this plan then he is looked as another politician just out for himself. If he denies it then he is believed to probably thowing his staff under the bus to save his hide. He really doesn't have a viable option.

A life was lost as a result so those responsible must be held accountable.

    Other thoughts:
What do you expect from the Soprano State?
Would this be news if Christie was not a potential candidate for president?

This would be local/state news, for sure.

But the killer is that this happened BECAUSE he was a candidate. He didn't need an endorsement from a local mayor when he was 30 points above in the polls. But he wanted the biggest landslide possible to prove to 2016 voters that he could overwhelmingly carry a blue state.

That's why it's so amazingly petty and vindictive. And it's a good assumption Christie was OZk with petty and vindictive payback in his top aides. That's a bad sign....Really Nixonian.

I think so, simply because of the location of the bridge in question. A bridge shut down in Missouri would not have the same effect upon those national media types who live in New Jersey and must cross the bridge into Manhattan for work.

It's not a result of any lean or a defense of anyone to point out that you mistakenly said the bridge was closed or that no one (yet) knows the level of involvement of Christie. I lean where I said I leaned on the issue. If he's directly involved or even indirectly involved, I'll rip into him hardcore. Pretty simple, really.

That's a well-written piece, and I agree with it 100%. The only thing left to see at this point is the degree to which he ends up tarnished to those who don't already like or hate him.

    It's nothing more than X's and O's.
