Ohio killer to get 2-drug injection untried in US

A guy that raped and slaughtered an 8 month old pregnant gets a sendoff with a drug cocktail...sounds...peaceful. As for it being 'tested' before...well...any volunteers? Since they cant get phenobarb anymore they are using the drug that has always been their standby method.

Greetings, CJ. :2wave:

As MMC posted earlier, we in NE Ohio and Chicago are going to leave the "balmy" 20s we've been enjoying, and it's going to get COLD! It's been snowing all day long, and the wind has picked up now, so I guess some minus degrees will be reached. Brrrr! I assume that a little personal anti-freeze in the form of an adult beverage is called for...what think you?

I just got through another 3 hour power outage and I was dreading the possibility of another week of suffering, but it came back. This is the coldest day of the year here with wind chills near -30c. I know there are places in the US colder now too. Saw an article online today saying that Winnipeg, here in Manitoba Canada is now colder than Mars!!

The government should not play God. Only God should decide when a person should die.
You mean like this convicted murderer did when he raped and killed a pregnant woman?

I think that your buddy CJ has heavy gas issues, and is blowing this nasty weather into OH.

OMG! The little Chihuahua I'm babysitting hasn't crawled out from under the blankets except to eat and do his business...as quickly as possible in both cases...for several days! And my house is warm! *knock on wood!* The next person who jokingly mentions "global warming" to me is likely to get decked!

Only way I would babysit one of those little rats is with a cattle prod.

He just suffered through seven days of total power outage over Christmas..no heat..no light..no nothing! He loves us too much to make us suffer like he did.......you do, don't you, CJ?... CJ?

Greetings, SMTA. :2wave:

Greetings my friend.

I would not wish that on anyone.

Living in the country, we have a generator.

Damn thing is handy when the power goes out.

I wonder how CJ smells!?

He belongs to my granddaughter, and he really is a great little guy...he thinks he's a "brave lion" watchdog...except when it gets cold, then all us humans are on our own! How are things in Southern Ohio?

Greetings, SMTA. :2wave: Happy New Year!

I still accept the fallout.

It is statistically insufficient I am sure.

Felons have many opportunities in our legal system to protect them.

Advancements in DNA typing are substantially better than years ago.

Mmm. OK. You do.

But again, it's not statistically insufficient to the innocent dead guy or his family, who also pay/paid their taxes and have the same rights to the same protections as the rest of us. And killing an innocent person is a HUGE failure. Esp. if the only reason is to remove a threat from society, as we can do that without killing them.

Because cruel and unusual punishment is a thing we're not fans of in the United States. Don't know how you guys do it up there in the tundra.

And since when is there ever "no possibility" they were convicted wrongly? There's quite a few people who've been executed only to have reasonable doubt come up later. (and I know at least one case of a guy outright proven to be innocent of murdering his children, a crime for which he was executed. Ugh, worst way to go)

The death penalty has the highest legal burdens in law. Man is fallible, as is your logic.

And since when is the death penalty cruel and unusual? Its been accepted since the birth of the nation and still is in most of the nation.

For you to arbitrarily state this for the rest of the nation is liberal bs.

Well if you don't have the death penalty you don't need to worry about what drugs to kill people. I am never in favour of the death penalty, it is barbaric and has no place in a modern justice system. There is too much room for error.

How much error?

Humans are not perfect, so that risk will always be there.

The current judicial system is certainly not perfect, but there are a plethora of checks and balances in capital murder trials.

The fallout is worth the risk in order to keep psycho killers away from the population.

Yeah, the fallout in case of the death penalty is just not worth the risk. The death of ONE innocent person is unacceptable and not worth the risk of having a death penalty.

In many of the death penalty cases, especially the ones where the killer has no remorse for what they did, I don't see anything human in there.

You are not the arbiter of what makes a person a human being.

Agreed. We don't need a death penalty anymore. We can lock these people up and keep OUR hands clean. Sometimes when I hear of the most heinous of cases, it is difficult to be anti death penalty, but I don't understand the blood lust some people seem to have.

You are okay with the state having the power to kill citizens?

Nope - that dog won't hunt here.

That same logic is only valid if applied across the board to any situation that involves life or death in US culture, which does not happen.

Care to try again?

You are okay with the state having the power to kill citizens?

The state does not have the power.

Juries hold the power to decide life or death.

The state performs the execution based upon the jury's decision.

Wrong. The state decides whether it is going to pursue an execution or not. The prosecution puts their case together and tries to convince people to put this particular person to death.

Do you trust the state and prosecutors that much? Do you trust prosecutors to be 100% honest and that they always share their information with the defense? They are human beings prone to making errors. Evidence can be tampered with and corrupted. That is just one reason why I'm against the death penalty.

Not really. Innocent people die all the time. The death penalty can be tailored to exclude cases in which guilt is in doubt, and a certain quality of evidence must be presented for the death penalty to be an available option.

Wrong. The state decides whether it is going to pursue an execution or not.

The state can decide whether to go after the death penalty, but all they do is ask.

The jury has the final say if it is valid or not.

The final responsibility rests with the jury.

No matter how you want to slice it, the death penalty is still a valid way to rid society if evil.

Evil? Anyhow, no it is no longer a valid method. It is killing citizens. Now, I've told this story before, about a detective in Providence, RI, who was convicted of murdering and dismembering his mistress. He spent more than 13 years in prison for this murder. Everyone was SURE he did it. All the evidence pointed to him as the murderer. However, after re-examining the DNA when new methods became available, it was discovered that he was INNOCENT. What if we had put him to death? This is NOT unusual. Cops and prosecutors railroad people more often than you would think.
