A&E calls off 'Duck Dynasty' suspension

Maybe, but I care as much about it as I do Steven Segal going philosophical on the same network. I suppose I'll keep seeing these dudes when I go to the local Walmart, right next to Garth Brooks, NASCAR, and incorrectly hooked up HD TV's.

Well, not everyone shares the same tastes. I personally have no love for reality TV. I can honestly say this is the only one I'll watch. Why? Because of what it is putting out there. It is a refreshing change from the morally corrupted, exploitative, agenda having, desensitizing garbage which fills most channels and I'd say all other reality TV programming.

I don't go to Wally World so I'll take your word...still, I've Got Friends in Low Places, don't dislike Non Athletic Sport Centered Around Rednecks, and have never had problems setting up my 50"s...

I think it's a win for the LGBT community. This suspension was HUGE for social conservatives, and it garnered plenty of outraged backlash in conservative media outlets. Every conservative politician and conservative blog was talking about it.

This is why I don't think it's a victory for them. A&E stuck to its guns until well after the outraged subsided. This ordeal gave clear indication to the slower adapting half of the country that anti-gay rhetoric is simply no longer appropriate or appreciated. That A&E/Disney and the national media will no longer give you a free-pass to slander other people with your Bible; and if you do, there will be consequences.

That's cute. I think what really happened was people figured out the gay community will always come off as whiny bitches and lost interest. Being petty and artificially inflating your outrage might get you some attention for a while, but a kid throwing a tantrum is only interesting for so long. Eventually people realize that you can't reason with the child and just leave them alone until they get over it.

I wonder if the next time GLAAD opens their collective mouth will the action taken be faster or much slower because of this case.

I doubt it they are becoming more like jesse jackson or al sharpton. pretty soon no one will pay attention to them either. one thing i have noticed about americans is that the more you scream and cry about every little offense the more people start to ignore you as they get tired of hearing it.

Jesse jackson and al sharpton lost a ton of credibility when they didn't speak out against those black kids that beat that white boy up.

Clearly this has deserved so much attention.

it is a bigger issue than that. It goes that just because someone says something that you might not doesn't give the right to censor them. that is why we have the court of public opinion. if the public doesn't like it then they will vote with not watching the show or buying their products.

Instead A&E and the LBGT or whatever it is called openned a can of worms and it backfired on them.

tantrum is only interesting for so long. Eventually people realize that you can't reason with the child and just leave them alone until they get over it.

yep that is what i do when my kids start that garbage i put them in a corner or in their rooms until they quit screaming. tell them if they do it again that i will send them back to it. half the time it is over nothing and they have to learn that they simply can't act that way.

A&E and any other employer, group, organization, et al who would try to silence an opposing belief or opinion.

Is that only when it matches your beliefs or opinions? If a gay person goes on a Christian network and offends Christian employees by drawing parallels between Christianity and terrorism/murder, will you be equally as appalled if they try to "silence" them?

Don't know if there's a thread on this or not. But here it is.

A&E has ducked away from a controversy surrounding the stars of its hugely popular reality series Duck Dynasty.

The network issued a statement late Friday backing off from its previously announced suspension of Phil Robertson, the patriarch of the clan behind the successful Louisiana-based Duck Commander duck-calling business. The suspension was triggered by Robertson's interview with GQ, published last week, in which he made anti-gay statements, which he said reflected his religious beliefs.

Bwaahaahaahaa!

This whole thing has become as rediculously stupid and pointless as the Chick Fil A thing.

the fiegned outrage though. what about that?

I dunno.

The homophobes can go **** themselves.

and I really don't care that much about what some ignorant, hillbilly, undereducated fool said who's from a TV Show I would never watch because I have a few braincells left to spare.

I wasn't aware A&E was a gay network.

And please, turn that Self Righteous Bus over to the side of the Pretentious Turnpike would ya?

If this had been a man advocating for gay rights or abortion or whatever else the Left deem appropriate and he got fired as a result there'd have been a war cry like the world had never heard, class action lawsuits filed the very same day, rainbow warriors marching on every city in the country, so let's stop with the BS double standard spiel, alright? You'd lose that argument every time.

but to answer your question, yes, everyone is entitled to their opinion, and when asked what they view, based on their personal beliefs, they've every right to say what's on their mind without repercussion.

You are a hateful, hateful little man.

Calling a spade a spade isn't being hateful, it's being truthful. Deal with it!

...and spew forth ignorant uninformed stereotype which is what the whole "controversy" was about to begin with.

As different as we all are, we're all the same.

Good, you are on record.

But look on the bright side, Jet.

This has provided quite the opportunity for ignorant hillbillies everywhere to flood internet discussion groups with the sort of stupid support that clearly indicates a few brain cells is all they possess.

An ignorant hillbilly that started a million dollar business. hmmm somehow they don't seem to line up together. Out of all of them i don't think phil has a college education but the rest do. that still didn't stop him from creating a million dollar business that has since grown.

yet you have enough brain cells to make ignorant comments like the one above interesting.

See? There is that liberal tolerance again. The education credentials of those on the show will continue to be ignored by those who pretend to be superior while refusing to admit they are not. The nice thing about being the center of your own universe is you can always feel superior even in your parent's basement in your SpongeBob jammies.

Phil has a Masters Degree in Education from Louisiana Tech, and was starting quarterback ahead of Terry Bradshaw in college. Turned down a chance at the NFL, by choice.

I don't know if you really believe this, or if you're just spinning it to make yourself feel better. ... [*]They're going to do PSAs regarding tolerance, etc. IOW, no real action, just feel-good "look at us we're so caring" crap. In reality, nothing of substance was done, nothing was gained by those who were outraged. It's back to business as usual... money talks.
What are you talking about? The outrage was still going on even over christmas. A&E caved into that outrage. the LGBT community lost face in this fight. they showed that unless you agree with them that you should be censored which is well not allowed. A&E didn't want to give away the number 1 rated reality show. Them and cracker barrel took a huge financial hit over the whole ordeal.
I think this was perfectly framed. Many people still think they can use religion to say stupid and/or hateful things and get away with it, but we're increasingly moving away from that. This very well demonstrated that you can no longer say "God says so" and get a free-pass after spouting your own ignorant views. These seemingly insignificant debacles have wider social implications. It reached people living in conservative bubbles and exposed them to the real world, and I have no doubt that this will help other anti-gay celebrities learn to keep their hateful traps shut.

"Cuz what you say is what you say, say what you say how you say it whenever you saying it, just remember how you said it when you were spraying it..."

My position has been the same from Day 1

Except that the percentage of those who identify as Christians is much larger than those who identify as gay. So it really comes down to the size of your audience. In this case the gay community came across as whiny bitches. The majority in this country still believe in God ( be they Christians, Jews or Muslims, all the same God), and the morally bankrupt "progressives" tend to be more takers than producers. Eventually your boy in office will head back to wherever he came from and we will start to get back to a productive country that rewards results instead of feelings. Over the last few years we have tried to be accommodating, only to find that there is no satisfying the self important and irresponsible, and we are losing interest in caring about it. Obama and his policies are speeding us toward not being able to prop our less productive idiots up. When that happens there will be much crying and gnashing of teeth, but don't expect sympathy.

no that is not is not my point and in the closet of your mind you know that
No...Im sure that somewhere in there is your foolish intent to cull the works to find a word or two that justifies your position. Keep doing that...it is working so well for you. At the end of the day...if you dont believe it, then none of this should matter to you.

Only those that despise themselves would see someone say "______________ is considered a sin by God" and see that as saying a 'hateful' thing. Perhaps the best place for you to start would be within...

Now...I dont pretend to KNOW Gods processes or reasoning...I think thats presumptuous. However I DO believe we can look at his role as a loving father and see the commandments for what they are...not a condemnation but a defining path. But heres the sad thing...any parent knows that when they have children, sometimes their children will get it into their mind they want to do something, regardless the number of times you have told them 'no'. As a parent you can warn, threaten, plead, explain, cajole...and at the end of the day, the petulant child is going to do it anyway. The parent really at that point only has one viable choice...consequence. Allow the child to experience the consequence of their actions. That doesnt make you as a parent love any less. It doesnt mean you can remove consequence. It just means the child makes the choice and the parent hhas to remain consistent. Homosexuals are free to do whatever they want with the boundaries of the law. It doesnt mean there wont be consequence.

This went beyond reality television and hillbillies with beards. It boiled down to a speech issue. Because a person believe in the bible and in turn, homosexuality is a sin doesn't mean they cannot state such. A&E had every right to take action but that action had consequences which were unforeseen. Only the special interest groups were outraged - A&E folded on the issue because they are a business after all and killing a cash cow like DD is well... stupid. People have a right to their own opinion and expressing that opinion - like it or not. The moral of the story: Where business is concerned, political correctness from special interest groups do not trump free speech or running a profit media company.
