600 People Involved in Movie Theater Brawl, 5 Arrested.....[W:34,61]

Five teenagers were arrested when a 600-person brawl broke out in a Florida movie theater's parking lot on Christmas night.

Described by police as a "melee," the fight occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday outside the Hollywood River City 14 movie theater in Jacksonville when a group tried to storm the theater's doors without purchasing tickets, police said. Several had rushed an off-duty police officer working as a security guard.

The officer "administered pepper spray to disperse the group, locked the doors and called for backup, following protocol," said Lauri-Ellen Smith, a spokeswoman for the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Soon after the pepper spray was used, "upward of 600 people moving throughout a parking lot about the size of a football field began fighting, disrupting and jumping on cars," she said.

Sixty-two police officers were called to the scene to break up the brawl, "sequestering them and separating them," Smith said.....snip~

Damn :shock: ......they just tried to rush the Officer and gangster their way into the Building. 600? Try having that rushing one while working at a movie theatre. Jumping on peoples cars, uhm.....that wont be minor damage.

And it was an 8:30 show too, so there would have been children in the theater. What is wrong with people?

OTOH, considering the size of the group, it's fortunate none chose to pull out weapons. Even surprising IMO. But good.

Sad that so many were wandering around uselessly on Christmas Eve.

Went to a Jacksonville Jags football game a couple years ago, it snowed. For real, snowed. But either way, Jacksonville sucks. We have a saying in the rest of Florida called "Jacksonville Dumb". That is how dumb Jacksonville is.

This link has a video but it reports the same. Although it doesn't show the parking lot. It does say they tried to get break into the theater.

I find that annoying - the constant suggestions that they should feel bound together by race and so when some of them do something wrong then they're all of a sudden one big community that should fix the problem together.

We don't have a white community.

When white guys storm schools and murder children no one ever thinks to open their mouth and say 'well the white community needs to come together and figure out how to fix this'

Afternoon CRUE CAB, I just checked out the crime stats for Florida and this year Florida is reporting the lowest crime rate in forty some years.....except for Jacksonville where felony crimes continue on the rise especially with the youth. Why is that?

If you think the African american community is simply bound together by race, as opposed to shared historical and cultural connections, and that these problems don't exist within that larger community, I don't know what to tell you. But a good place to start I guess would be looking up statistics concerning crime, std rates, single parent households, etc.

african american community=/= black. There are very real social and cultural issues that are you unique to the former due to a shared historical and cultural legacy. "White people" don't have a shared or historical cultural legacy. White people represent numerous groups with divergent "historical and cultural backgrounds" and did not suffer things like jim crow, slavery, and various other forms of systemic oppression that continue to have an impact even today ...

African american is more an ethnicity and has unique issues facing it that don't crop up in other groups with similar racial backgrounds. So your assumption my argument concerned race is simply more evidence of the fact that all you presented here was a knee-jerk reaction dependent on pure ignorance of the issue.
