Turing was best known for developing the Bombe, a code-breaking machine that deciphered messages encoded by German machines. His work is considered by many to have saved thousands of lives and helped change the course of the war.
"Dr. Turing deserves to be remembered and recognized for his fantastic contribution to the war effort and his legacy to science," British Justice Secretary Chris Grayling said in a statement Tuesday. "A pardon from the Queen is a fitting tribute to an exceptional man."
Turing's castration in 1952 -- after he was convicted of homosexual activity, which was illegal at the time -- is "a sentence we would now consider unjust and discriminatory and which has now been repealed," Grayling said.
Two years after the castration, which Turing chose to avoid a custodial sentence, he ended his life at the age of 41 by eating an apple laced with cyanide.

Yet another win for the gay agenda.

It's a win for basic human decency.

Considering he saved Britian. the royal Family.
Everything on that island.

He won the war for Britian and USA.

And this is how they repay him...............................

Actually I would prefer The island being part of 2013 Nazi germany, then we would not have to put up with Murdoc and phone hacking................

He was actually, physically castrated? Just for being gay? In Britain?

Astonishing. Appalling also.

Very sad. May he RIP and I hope, wherever he is, he knows that the injustice done upon him has been noted as a wrongdoing.

Okay then...

Good I guess.

I've never been a big fan of posthumous symbolism but...hey, if it makes a few people smile, go for it. As long as they nod, smile, and shut up, it's all good.

Chemically castrated, later took his life. This "pardon" does him relatively no good. It's just a PR move.

No, I think it is important. It should not be just swept under the carpet because he is dead but we need to learn how barbaric the treatment was done to someone who did so much for everyone.

One man won the war? Interesting. Those guys on Higgins boats must of been for show I guess.

Those guys were lead by people that knew exactly what the enemy was up to. And even if you have inferior weapons, and a smaller army, if you know
what your enemy is up too, and his weakness, you will win.

And they knew because of Turing.

Just like the Manhatten project people saved about 500,000 + American lives. (averting the invastion of Japan)

It was a rather barbaric act in and of itself in the first place. i don't know if it's a win for the "gay agenda", it's just decency in general.

It's nothing of the sort. A win for decency would have been not to do it in the first place. They were wholly indecent and waiting until long after the guy is dead to apologize for something they never should have done in the first place is pretty damn hollow.

I suppose the phrase "better late than never" could apply here. I guess.

He helped win the war he wasn't solely responsible for the fall of the Nazis as you previously suggested, just a another small part in a huge war effort from all the allied countries.

Nearly all Western countries had anti-homosexuality laws, many gay men and women who served in war were later humiliated or cast out for breaking sodomy laws. What happened to Turing was a disgrace but I don't think many other countries would have treated him better.

Murdoch is Australian / American, he would have done what he did anywhere he could have gotten away with it.

Castrated and driven to suicide for the effort. Well not really so much for being a brilliant soldier, but because gay is icky.

I suppose this was to send some sort of "I'm sorry" message to whomever, but it rings hollow to me. Better an apology than a pardon. Pardon?? Really?

Correct. A pardon is just forgiving a crime, it doesn't mean they admit error. If they wanted to make a real statement, it would have been an apology to all whom were subjugated to such horrendous practice.

Haha yeah, the "gay agenda" to not be forced into chemical castration, leading to suicide. That is such a scumbag view that it's not worth seriously responding to.

Great for Turing, justice at last, but there's thousands of other brits who should be pardoned too.
