New Mexico Supreme Court rules Gay Marriage Constitutional

I think people should be flattered when anyone states their attraction to them regardless of their gender. It's a freegin' compliment.

I agree.

I think the way the Russians are treating their gays these days it'd probably be a better fit for him.

Or Uganda, heck, the dictator of Uganda has the support of all the talibornagain fundies.

It's different if you're getting hounded, or if someone is getting just too into your personal space. It has nothing to do with gender, though. It's just when someone won't take "no" for an answer.

The entire dissent is Scalia railing against a majority he believes has abandoned their oaths and been dishonest in their motives, their judgement and their decisions. It was a pretty emotional analysis of the decision at hand. He contradicts himself several times in the dissent and appears to be fed up with the majority. I doubt any reasonable reader would use Scalia's dissent as a pro or con for ANY argument or prediction.

Dude.....he said the writing is on the wall. How much more clear can you get than that. If Scalia thinks it is a lost cause....you are finished...done.

I don't know. I mean, I agree that it's a lost cause, but "Scalia thinks so" isn't evidence to support anything. The man has no principles, he starts with his personal beliefs and works backwards, twisting whatever he needs to twist to "justify" it legally. He's the worst kind of internet troll, except he's for real and sits on the highest court in the country.

So you'll take your toys and go home now? See ya. Can't say I'll miss your sloppy analysis of legal writings.

I agree with you about Scalia. My point is that if even Scalia sees this issue as dead on arrival, thats a clear indication of the fact that the war is over.

There is nothing left to be done, except watch the remaining pieces fall. I'm sorry dude....I know that you want it to be otherwise, but the war is over. Like I said, cling to the last vestiges of hope for as long as you can if it makes you feel more comfortable...but marriage equality will be the law of this great country. Sorry...that's just how it is.

Keep repeating it long enough and maybe it'll be true. But really, has that worked for you in the past? It's like a Agent J style argument without the lists.

Keep on hopin' there. :lamo

From my understanding it looks like there wasn't a law properly defining marriage and in the absense of such a law under NM state constitution you can't deny homosexuals the ability to apply for a marriage certificate.

Yeah. I think New Mexico was one of those weird states that didn't explicitly ban same-sex marriage, but it also didn't explicitly allow it. I'm surprised the discrepancy lasted this long.

One more state added to the list of places not to visit, and whose companies I will try not to do business with.

You're money's green ain't it? You'll change your turn when you realize how many Benjamin's the other guys' making and you're missing out on.

I somehow doubt you have a list of companies from which you will not buy goods due to their support of same sex marriage. For example, you are obviously using a computer and I'm pretty sure that it was made by a company that supports same sex marriage or has components in it that came from a company that supports same sex marriage. In fact, I would not be surprised if your ISP is owned by a company that supports same sex marriage. You may have no choice but to throw you computer into the ground and cancel your internet. It was nice knowing you.

The problem with Tigger's assessment is it's not the business' fault that the state's Appeals Court has upheld gay marriage or overturned gay marriage bans. He's boycotting the wrong business end of the stick. If you don't want to do contract work with the New Mexico state legislature, fine. But the franchise that happens to have its headquarters in New Mexico shouldn't be made to suffer from a lack of business just because their state's legal system upheld an equal protection you disagree with.

You've gotten all the liberal blue states you're going to get, disneydude.

No, I totally mean it this time.

Only took you 24 hours to be proven wrong...LOL

If a gay married EMT comes to your house if you have an accident, are you going to refuse the ambulance, because he or she may be married?

If I can determine the status of the EMT, definitely. I'll decline all service in that case.

What's wrong-you afraid some dude is going to propose to you? seriously, how does that hurt you at all?

It has nothing to do with anything of the sort. It has to do with the damage done to my soul, and our societal soul by these people even being in our presence. My response to any man hitting on me would be two rounds to his chest.

You must have a real big shopping bill. Because living in New England you must not be able to do business with any companies in the region you live in.

Actually, yes I do. I try not to deal with most of the major retailers if I can help it, and buy most of my groceries, clothes, firearms, etc.... through small, family-owned businesses where I can get a much better idea as to the social leanings of the business owners. It's more expensive, but it's worth it.

Too bad... it's rather pretty here and the history is of the richest in the nation.

Not it's American history, since it only entered the United States in 1848 as a territory and 1912 as a state. Whatever it was prior to that is really irrelevant.

I'm talking about personal business, not corporate business. Thankfully, in the small amount of research I was able to do this weekend, it doesn't appear that I do significant personal business with any companies that are based in New Mexico.

No you wouldn't. Nobody would choose death over being touched by a gay person. You're overplaying the character.

Don't count on that. I nearly declined services from a pair of straight EMT's in the fall of 1992 when my college roommate thought I was having a heart attack (turned out it was indigestion, as I thought) because they weren't going to let me WALK to the ambulance. They finally agreed to my demands and I allowed them to transport me.

Remember that I'm much more interested in quality of life over quantity of life. I have less than no fear of dying.

Are you trying to convince me, or convince yourself?

I'm not trying to convince anyone. I'm simply stating the facts of what occured in 1992. My Living Will actually lays out much of what I will and will not allow the medical community to do to me.

Me too, that is why I support abortion and find it hypocritical to have that perspective and not.

To me abortion is less an issue of the life of the child and more an issue of the parents taking responsibility for their actions.

You have serious personal issues.

Yes. Mostly with the people who make up the vast majority of the Western world in general and the United States specifically.

Well if this were the 50's and this conversation was taking place it would be over interracial marriage and you'd be crying how you'd die rather than let a "colored" EMT touch you. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Race is not and never has been an issue for me.
