New Mexico Supreme Court rules Gay Marriage Constitutional

LOL...The USSC is very likely to rule on the issue in the near future which with make marriage equality the law of the land. What are you going to do then? Move to China?
I think the only places he can be assured of comfort is in India or Russia.

Too many victory laps too soon. Over three quarters of the states still do not allow gay marriage. But on a good for you note, doesn't Mexico allow gay marriage now?

Not really....the war is over. All that remains is for the chips to continue to fall...as they will.

And that same Prop8 was deemed unconstitutional, iirc. So you're advocating that stupid people, who already know how their Supreme Court will rule, should waste tax payer money trying to change something they can't win. How bizarre that you righties only think liberal government spending is waste.

As has already been stated, the Supreme Court did not rule Prop 8 was unconstitutional, they ruled that the people defending Prop 8 did not have standing. In other words, they bunted the issue of whether or not same sex marriage is a constitutional right.

I know I'm hitting this post twice but I had a thought, a snarky one. With so many more males than females in China, do you really believe all those men are not having sex? Have they decided that women can have many partners? Yeah, China ain't going to work for him beyond the surface anyway, I don't think.

Exactly and how would it be different in New Mexico? Basically it's the USSC taking on a spat between bigots and the NMSC? If the bigots didn't have standing then, how is it they'll have standing now?

However....reading between the lines on both of the cases the USSC ruled on last term, it is pretty clear that they are in fact saying that. This is why Scalia went on his vitriolic diatribe

One more state added to the list of places not to visit, and whose companies I will try not to do business with.

Can't do business with gay lovers. Blasphemy.

He didn't say they couldn't be gay, he says they can't have equal rights. Just sayin'. Probably he's been doing business with gay men all his life, but was/is shielded from knowing about it because anyone in their right mind wouldn't be honest with a person such a he about something like that.

Just keep thinking that. There's a word for those who celebrate the win too soon - losers.

Two people of the same sex getting married has zero effect on your life.

"you kids get off my lawn!!!"

That's nice, but the majority of computer parts are made in Japan, China and South Korea, none of which support gay marriage, or gays in particular.
Regardless of where they are made, the majority of the profit goes to pro-SSM corporations. Can't pick and choose just to excuse you inability to live pro-SSM free.

Adult, consensual and non-commercial homosexuality has been legal in the mainland PRC since 1997, when the national penal code was revised. Homosexuality was removed from the Ministry of Health's list of mental illnesses in 2001 and the public health campaign against AIDS-HIV pandemic does include education for men who have sex with men. Officially, overt police harassment of gay people is restricted to gay people engaging in gay sex acts in public or gay prostitution, which are also illegal for heterosexuals.

However, despite these changes, no civil rights law exists to address discrimination or harassment on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity. The media tends to censor positive depictions of gay couples in films and television shows and households headed by same-sex couples are not permitted to adopt children and do not have the same privileges as heterosexual married couples.

You've gotten all the liberal blue states you're going to get, disneydude.

No, I totally mean it this time.

There's another one for you, Deuce; The NMSC considered its marriage laws to prevent homosexuals from marrying.

Therefore, barring individuals from marrying and depriving them of the rights, protections, and responsibilities of civil marriage solely because of their sexual orientation violates the Equal Protection Clause under Article II, Section 18 of the New Mexico Constitution. We hold that the State of New Mexico is constitutionally required to allow same-gender couples to marry and must extend to them the rights, protections, and responsibilities that derive from civil marriage under New Mexico law.

Anyone who read the opinions of the USSC in the last term....and understands the motivation behind Scalia's vitriolic outburst, knows full well that the battle is over. The only thing remaining is waiting for the final pieces to fall. But you can hold onto those lost embers of hope if it makes you feel more comfortable until then.

Yes it does have an effect on my life. The acceptance of that lifestyle is simply a furthering of the destruction of morality in this nation which was started in earnest a century ago with the feminist movement.

If your morality and values can be so easily effected by others, that's a personal issue between you and your faith. It isn't the country's job to assist you in that manner.

Yeah, funny how there are a whole lot of people who have read those same decisions and don't have the same takeaway you do. Regardless, don't really care one way or the other as I'm on the last few turns of the wheel. My grandchildren will deal with it. And the only hope I have is that they have a country left worth repairing. I admit, that does seem a forlorn hope from time to time.

I'm curious if your children allow you to teach hatred to your grandchildren.

Don't be dumb. They aren't Christian in China.

Rather insulting that you consider folks who don't agree with your take on things as teaching hatred. But that's part and parcel of the typical progressive, hypocritical in the extreme.

My children are farther right than I've ever been in my life. Just about sent them into shock when I chose to support Obama in 08. But hey, they got the bonus of proving the old man wrong, and that's priceless.

The only ones who had a different takeaway were the extreme right-wing pundits who desperately want to convince their fans that the battle isn't over. Every legitimate source had the same "takeaway" that I did. But like I said...hold onto those last embers if it make you just a little more comfortable until the final chips fall.
