Target Confirms Major Card Data Theft during Thanksgiving

Target Corp said data from about 40 million credit and debit card accounts might have been stolen during the Thanksgiving weekend, in one of the largest credit card breaches at a U.S. retailer.

The company confirmed a Reuters report on Wednesday that said federal authorities were investigating a data breach, which started on the busy Black Friday weekend.....snip~

Attention Shoppers of Target in the US and Canada.....if you used your credit and debit cards at Target from Black Friday til Dec 15. You could have possible trouble with your account and had your info stolen.

Information that would allow others to open up Cards and or purchases in your name. Any cards that were swiped.....is where they found the way in. Off the back of magnetic strip that encodes the info.

Secret service is Investigating......and is on the J.O.B. Looks like they are taking this one seriously now. 40 Million People. Although.....why isn't the FBI investigating?

Perhaps they are treating it like sort of like federal immigration law; 11 million suspected violators so they dispatch 5 thousand ICE field agents to pretend to address it.

Hope you didn't go to Target on Black Friday

Target holiday cyber breach hits 40 million payment cards | Reuters

(Reuters) - Target Corp said hackers might have stolen data from some 40 million credit and debit cards of shoppers who visited its stores during the first three weeks of the holiday season in the second-largest such breach reported by a U.S. retailer.
In terms of the speed at which the hackers were able to access large numbers of credit cards, the data theft was unprecedented. It took place in the 19 days from the day before Thanksgiving to Sunday, in the heart of the crucial Christmas holiday sales season.
Target, the No. 3 U.S. retailer, said on Thursday that it was working with federal law enforcement and outside experts to prevent similar attacks in the future. It did not disclose how its systems were compromised.
Experts said the incident could not have come at a worse time for Target, which is working to woo sales away from rivals in the last week of the holiday shopping season. Complaints from customers began to surface on social media as they learned of it early Thursday morning.

Sorry I didn't see it. I'll alert the mods to meld them together.

I'm just surprised that 40 million Americans shopped at Target over Thanksgiving, glad I wasn't one.

There physical stores weren't hacked, their computer systems were. Geez, really you think someone when into all those stores in US and Canada and stole the information from there???
