Five years in, Obama and Bush poll numbers nearly identical

Because THIS tired and untrue meme NEVER gets old.
Oh, so the Democrats familiarized themselves with the Bill before they responsibly passed it and now are running for cover. Don't you thing it would have been wiser to demonstrate their misgivings while they were reading it?

The GOP is vested in the failure of Obama, therefore to Hell with america..

I sure do find that irresponsible Grant .

No, Nimby what's irresponsible it twisting the words in order to get a question that suits. I'm not offended because these childish stunts tried by leftists, we see it here every day. The USA is seriously running out of educated adults. It has become a crisis in fact. Sue your Teachers union.

The same educated adults who created the across-the-board public pension fiasco the Nation is now stepping into..
I've had enough of these back-loading pols and selfish pensioneers who won't give aq dime, though they can easily afford it..
We'll all be SOL when the pensions go down, not just Detroit .

Such as Rep. Paul Broun from Georgia running for Senator..
He makes Cruz look like Bernie Sanders..
Hence, the GOP story on GA Rep. Kingston on making poor kids work for their free lunch cleaning up the lunchroom .
And perhaps the idiots who try to teach kids evolution is false?

Obama's job approval rating is lowest for any American president since Richard Nixon. It is currently 38% Nixon was at 29%.

Factually incorrect. Bush's approval rating at the end of his 2nd term was 22 percent and had gone as low as 20.

The best indicator will be where this country will be when Obama leaves office. GWB took a country with a budget surplus and drove this country to the brink of economic and moral bankruptcy. Obama took over a country in a mess...and hopefully he won't leave it in a mess....time will tell.

It already is a mess.....

Because that's what I said.

Apparently we all DON'T know about MoE, since j-mac made it pretty clear he didn't.

I did no such thing. That is only you trying to shift the focus on me with a lie, so that you don't look so foolish for trying such a weak attempt at making excuses for the failure your president is.

Hmmmm...You have to ignore the entire last year to make your (being nice here) factually inaccurate claim. The truth of the matter has already been posted in this thread, so let's look at apples to apples shall we?

"Obama's approval rating in the poll stands at 43%. By comparison, President George W. Bush had a 47% approval rating at the end of the fifth year of his presidency.

The USA has been socialist to some degree since its beginning..

Saying you're against the USA means you're probably from Texas, even though Sam Houston was not a Confederate .

Another liberal deception tactic. He said he was against socialism, not America. If I say I am against cancer in someone, do you think that means I am against that person? If so, you need to get back to 1st grade to learn comprehension.

What excuse was I making? What policy did I defend? What policy was even mentioned?

Go back, look at the thread, and tell me exactly what I was defending. I'll wait.

It already is a mess.....

But less of a mess than it was five years ago.

so, Republicans point out that it's a mess,
Democrats point out that it's getting better (slowly)
nobody points out that little of it has anything to do with the POTUS.

Hyperpartisan politicking is one of the reasons why the mess hasn't been cleaned up more quickly than it has.

Oh, I think the President has an influence on the economy. Congress, too. The whole bundle of them are quite adept at ruining the economy and trampling on our rights without a second thought.

Congress, mainly, and the fed. The POTUS, not so much, and the biggest part of the problem is not the Democrats nor the Republicans, but the wars between the two.

But, yes, they are pretty much adept at trampling our rights, as long as we continue to sit back and allow them to do so.

He still has 3 years to mess things up further ;).

I'd argue we are in more of a mess then we were 5 years into Bush's term.

When the money isn't there then it doesn't matter what the politicians promised in order to get elected, or stay in power. A broke nation is a broke nation and if you are youngish, and expect the government to look after you in your later years, then you are a fool.

The headline spins it just a bit, Obama's numbers are actually a bit worse even. :) If it looks like a lame duck, walks like a lame duck, quacks like a lame duck......

"In fact, Bush comes out one point ahead, 40 percent to 39 percent, respectively. The Gallup daily tracking poll for November 5[SUP]th[/SUP] 2013 puts Obama’s approval at 39 percent, with 53 percent disapproving of his job performance.
By comparison, polling for the first week of November in 2005 had Bush’s approval at 40 percent, with 55 percent disapproving of his job performance.
And the negative comparison to Bush’s numbers is potentially worse for Obama than just a tough headline.
As former Bush adviser Matthew Dowd said on ABC’s “This Week,” the real damage lies in the fact that historically low approval numbers often constrain a president’s ability to rebound with the public.
“I think what you have right now is you talked about the floor of the president's approval numbers, which are almost exactly where President Bush's were. Every time you establish a new floor, you establish a new ceiling,” Dowd said.
Noting that Bush’s approval free fall “wasn’t all about Katrina,” Dowd said Obama faces a similar assault from multiple fronts.
"The president's problems have been brewing for a while,” Dowd said. “What the Republican circus did was cover up a lot of the president's problems. That circus that went on with the Republicans for a while. And then once that was over, it revealed a deeper problem with the presidency."

Five years in, Obama and Bush poll numbers nearly identical

Both Bush and Obama were elected in hopes they'd get a lot of good stuff done.

Bush was able to get most of his agenda passed with tax cuts and so on. He pushed a bipartisan initiative with No Child Left Behind and Medicare Part D. His initial response to 9-11 was good despite the nonsense ginned up by the news media. Then he strained his political capital with the war in Iraq. Not finding WMD in Iraq was damaging, the problems with the occupation also hurt. His initiatives for social security fell flat, immigration reform fell flat, Katrina damaged him even more even if much of the criticism directed at him was unfair and false. His nomination of Meyers for the Supreme Court hurt him with his own base -- an unforced error.

Obama is a bit different. He lied to get the ACA passed. The reaction to a huge grab of power by the government in the ACA and in the bailouts and the takeover of GM and Chrysler was that Obama lost the House in the midterms. He lied about what he intended for the stimulus money, he gave it to his cronies, to protect unions, and to keep government employees employed, and the result was that it did nothing for the economy. He hasn't been able to do much of anything else unless it has been through executive orders. All of his proposals have come from way off to the left, proposals that the Republicans will not ever support. Nothing bipartisan at all. Nothing. Then we find out what a rat bastid he is with the IRS targetting conservatives and the Benghazi debacle, and he never knows anything about what is going on. Then the NSA debacle. Then the ACA debacle and all the problems we're looking forward to having to endure with the ACA from now on, lots of problems we haven't even dreamed of, no doubt.

In short, a fall in poll numbers was deserved for both Presidents and came out of their own faults and missteps.

5 years is plenty of time to tell.

If he'd done it without their approval, then his rating would have been even lower.

Perhaps. But Obama received no such approval for bombing Libya. And despite drawing a red line in Syria, or not investigating Benghazi, he still has his admirers. Obviously there is more at play here than just receiving Congressional approval. The Democrats have turned on the leadership of their own country and run away from the responsibilities of their own decision on Iraq. They were all for it before they were against it.
