The Pentagon urgently investigated whether six American troops killed in Afghanistan on Tuesday may have died from enemy fire after their helicopter crashed, rather than from the crash itself, two senior U.S. officials said.

"We do not know how those killed were killed," one of the officials told CNN. "It's unclear if it was the crash or contact with the enemy after the helo came down."

...and for what? To protect the CIAs cash crop of poppies? To give Blackwater another few billion?

    Tragic.

I dunno. There really isn't any good reason to stay there for another 10 years.
There wasn't really a good reason to escalate like Obama did, or the counter-insurgency strategy Bush tried,
and starved troops for another war in Iraq. It's a tragedy for all the dead and wounded, but it's one of our own making.

Afganistan "Graveyard of the Empires",,,,the writing was on the wall.

Bush and Obama. What a dynamic duo. Makes you wonder if the same puppetmaster pulled their strings.

The decisions to extend the war for a decade or more was not the will of the people. It was the will of the Owners and the MIC.

Bush's initial reaction in Afghanistan was correct and well handled. But the decision to start another war with Iraq and to turn Afghanistan into a bottomless pit was that of the Masters, not the rest of us.

I don't think any of the wars were worth the prosecution.\

Petraeus, you’ll remember, wanted to dramatically expand America’s counterinsurgency campaign in Afghanistan. He didn’t just want 40,000 more troops. In conjunction with Hillary Clinton, he also wanted a vast “civilian surge,” swarms of American agricultural experts, engineers, and diplomats who would fan out into the Afghan countryside and do the hard work of nation building on which the Bush administration had skimped.

Biden pushed back hard. Nation building in a country as destitute and decentralized as Afghanistan, he argued, was hopeless. Besides, the Taliban didn’t threaten America; al Qaeda did. And America could handle al Qaeda with a small number of Special Operations troops on the ground supporting an aggressive, drone-dominated campaign from the air. Biden called it “counterterrorism plus.”

Initially, Obama split the difference, sending more troops to Afghanistan than Biden wanted but fewer than Petraeus had urged and setting a deadline to begin removing them within a year.

It looks to me, (and I am not an expert on the policies), that Obama sorta escalated, but if you recall, also set a withdrawl date.

Anyways...the best thing that could happen now, is if Karzai refused to sign the State of Forces Agreement (SOFA)
negotiated by Kerry, and approved by the lloya jirga

Time for us to leave, there isn't anything to gain, but a so called 'stabilization' of Afg.
Knowing the history, seeing the eternal commitment with bases (etc.) It's not worth another dead American/ISAF death.

The idea was to degrade al_Qaeda, not build up a stable Afganistan. It's on the other side of the world, just get out of there. Now.

After 9/11, Afghanistan decided to protect OBL. They told us to **** off.

Instead, we armed the opposing forces, provided them with air support and kicked the AQ leaders out to replace them with the dubious lot we have now. We couldn't just do nothing after this horrific attack. But Bush handled this correctly. Minimum force, minimum risk to Americans and revenge taken. That was his job - and he did it well.

Then he colluded with his buddies and embroiled us in an unwinnable war where his profiteer friends made billions more. This was wrong - and he failed us.

But I give credit when credit is due.

Is there anyone who truly believes another 5 years of our troops there is going to end positive?

I doubt it. What are we accomplishing here?

    Nothing.
