Teacher to student: You can't be Santa -- you're black! - CNN.com

The family of an African-American high school student in New Mexico says he's crushed after a teacher questioned why he was wearing Santa garb during a school holiday dress-up day last week, CNN affiliate KOAT reported.

I don't follow I've heard this a couple of times but I don't understand why the idea of santa being white and only white is a bad thing? asian holidays tend to have asian charactors because thats who they are.... why do we need to change the idenity of fictional charactors to be multiracial? this being a story I see on fox news and cnn makes no sense to me... (First Cmass so I might not understand some underlying problem with this) :2wave:

The color of santa is white it has been since the holiday was invented right? why are people crying about it being racist?

Re: Teacher to student: You can't be Santa -- you're black!

I don't understand this at all.

We all know that Santa does not exist, so who cares what color he is?

If you want to go back in history, what color was the man Santa was based on?

I agree with Mason: SANTA ISN'T REAL. He doesn't have a race. You might as well get offended by someone saying the easter bunny is Filipino.

And nobody was crying about it being racist. Some teacher was a complete dick to some black guy who was wearing a santa suit.

I assume europian which is mostly white.... so I assume he is white? like asia... mostly asian our fictional charactors of the past tend to be.... I don't know... asian?

Didn't we just discuss this to death and beyond in another thread?

Re: Teacher to student: You can't be Santa -- you're black!

If this really happened then the teacher needs a big smack. If the kid want's to dress up like Santa more power to em'. Don't rain on his parade.

Not that it makes it right but I wonder if the teacher was screwing around with the kid? I bet the teacher wishes they hadn't said anything right about now, but who knows. I really don't care what race you want santa to be as long as he's bringing joy.

That's an incredibly idiotic thing to say.

I really wish you would ignore any thread made by me... you are always so mean and aggresive wishing I was dead, calling me a pig and saying I made a stupid thread. whilist derailing any thread I make turning it into your opinions of obama and stuff it's making it really hard for me to enjoy this website :(

Oh, this thread isn't about some school teacher that shot his mouth off and said something incredibly stupid to a little boy?

it's kind of both.. I think it's wrong for the teacher to be mean to the little boy who wanted to dress up. but I don't think santa needs to be any other color then his fiction says he is

Re: Teacher to student: You can't be Santa -- you're black!

If the kid wants to dress up as Abraham Lincoln or Robin Hood, let him do it without any idiotic criticism.

Somewhere between dark olive and light brown. St. Nicholas hailed from what is now Turkey. Hardly the blue-eyed Swede today's mythical Santa is usually portrayed as.

As to why anyone cares, I have no frickin' idea. What is wrong with people?

Re: Teacher to student: You can't be Santa -- you're black!

Okay this is now getting all kinds of ridiculous.
