Laurence of Arabia and Murphy's war are two of my favourite films:

he was also however involved in Supergirl and a few other forgettable movies. His voice was like rough silk though - loved his character in Ratatouile.

Fantastic actor, will be sorely missed...

Lets hope the remains of his ilk are with us for some time longer...

    R.I.P.

I can't believe he was only 81. He looked a lot older.

I think some of the best actors in history were British, gentlemen, classically trained, and drunks. Peter was another fine example of that stereotype being utterly true.

    Peter O'Toole dead.

The actor who took the world by storm in his LAWRENCE OF ARABIA role has died. Peter O'Toole was nominated for eight different Oscars and never won one (other than an honorary) despite turning in one of the greatest performances as the tortured and complex British officer sent to the Middle East during the first world war.

    He will be missed.

One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.... John Rogers

I think my fave O'Toole performance was as Henry II in Becket. Such a talent.

My favorite line from the movie Lawrence of Arabia was when he was asked " What is it, Major Lawrence, that attracts you personally to the desert? " and Peter O'Toole replies " It's clean. "

I think my favorite was Goodbye, Mr. Chips - but that was at a time when I was in school and movies like The Prime of Ms. Jean Brodie and To Sir With Love and the like were popular. But I'm not sure he ever made a bad movie or did a bad job playing a part.

I just liked O'Toole because he was irreverant, funny, utterly unapologetic, and hung out with a lot of similar British acting titans of his time.

God rest his soul and may his family and friends be comforted that he lived a long, meaningful life, to the fullest.
