Polygamy Advocate Groups Hail Judge Ruling in Utah

No that is incorrect. There are currently 7 states that do not require parental notification and there are another 9 that are currently enjoined. There are two states that have to notify the parents but the parents have no say.

You see there truly is such a thing as a slippery slope.

Parental consent laws for abortion =/= age of consent laws for sexual activity or marriage. They are completely different animals.

Only half the states prohibit marriage between first cousins.

That had no relevance to your post, but I added it because it at least has some semblance to this thread.

It's mind boggling how you and the clowns like you actually believe government is great when in reality government is responsible for just about every atrocity that has ever occurred on this planet.

Then you wonder why things are so ****ed up and why we go to war...

Every elected official and government employee is an authoritarian loon... Maybe not every - I can make an exception.

If marriage is no longer between a man and a woman but can now include same sexes and according to this article a man can have more than one wife. Soon it will be changed that a woman can have more than one husband. So since there are no absolutes anymore, a woman and her cat, a man and his horse....what's stopping it? Heck today some people love and put more value on their animals than another human being. There is already a push to loosen incest laws. Marriage is on its way to being anything you want it to be IMO.

First off get educated. Polygamy means multiple spouses and does not denote gender in any aspect. Polygyny is 1 man multiple wives and polyandry is 1 woman and multiple husbands. So if polygamy is made legal it will be a woman allowed to have multiple husbands and for that matter any combination of spouses such as 2 men and 3 woman. As to what is stopping humans with animals, that would be the whole being able to give informed consent thing. Can you show how polygamy, in and of itself, removes the informed consent aspect, and thus putting it on parallel with marrying animals?

Any yes some of those incest laws do need to be loosened. While you can make the blood argument, there is no real argument for those who are only related legally. Why shouldn't Greg Brady have been able to marry Marcia?

The article that started this thread.

No longer will you be arrested for practicing polygamy. Polygamy is clearly on the same path that homosexual relations once were. First they dropped the sodomy laws. Then came the legalization of same sex marriages. Currently incest laws are being challenged in some states. What happens when/if they drop them too? How many people realize in France even though it is frowned upon it has been legal for brothers and sisters of the same parent to marry since Napoleon. Lots of countries all over the world are dropping incest laws. Some countries allow marriage others do not allow marriage like Japan but do not find it a crime to engage in incest with consenting adults.

Your ignorance shows through again. With the exception of Utah till now, you couldn't have been arrested for practising polygamy to begin with, unless you were fraudulently obtaining multiple legal marriage certificates. Currently polygamy is being practised by thousands if not tens of thousands and none of them are breaking any laws elsewhere. And now they are not in Utah either.

Oh horror, sodomy laws were dropped. Now it's no longer illegal to get a blow job!

The law s also being challenged with regard to adults having sex with children though I can't recall the acronym.

Your evidence of this statement?

No Dan I don't think I have misunderstood. What the judge did was ruled that you will no longer face jail time for practicing polygamy. What the judge did was put polygamy on the road to becoming legal just like the judge that legalized sodomy put in motion legalizing same sex marriages.

I think you're confusing polygamy with polyamory.

And you can believe whatever the **** you like...

Pot, meet kettle.

So there shouldn't be divorce ... because government ... or something.

I know you take every opportunity you can to get on your anti-government soapbox, but I really don't see what relevance it has in this discussion.

I don't believe in state/government recognized marriage.

Keep on assuming like the progressive you are dude.

I don't believe in state/government recognized marriage.

Fair enough. But like it or not, it exists, and simply saying "but government" when people are discussing legitimate issues with marriage solves precisely nothing.

Before they get done redefining marriage, it will be legal between a brother and a sister, father and daughter, a mother and son, gay men/women, straight men/women will be allowed multiple spouses and the consent laws will get lowered. And who knows maybe a man who loves his sheep or the woman who loves her cat. You keep hearing more and more people willing their money to their animals.

I don't care, the problem IS THE GOVERNMENT....

Let people live - don't regulate their lives.... That apparently is something big brother loves.

If you insist.

Cool story bro.

Looking at laws it's only "fair."

Anarchy...

Cool story bro.

Is that what you say when you are at a loss of words or when you get intellectually bitch-slapped?

You're a hoot dude.

What part don't you get, it doesn't have to be legal for someone to practice polygamy. In Utah for practicing playing house with multiple wives came with jail time if caught. The judge changed that.

You're a hoot dude.

"Intellectually bitch slapped." OK, buddy.

It's what I say when I have zero interest in arguing (again) with an anti-government zealot on a thread that doesn't warrant it.

Living with multiple partners is not polygamy. It's polyamory. Marrying multiple partners is polygamy.

You have lots of interest in arguing and defending your government........ Go bowling or something dude.

In what alternate universe did I "defend the government" in this thread? Seriously, go sell crazy someplace else. We're all stocked up here.

In their minds, they are married. They take a vow. Just because the government doesn't recognize it THEY DO which makes it polygamy.

In my mind, I'm an astronaut. The government just doesn't recognize it.

You opposing me is a blatant de facto defense for government...

Well the government may not recognize their marriages but from this day forward in the state of Utah they will no longer face jail time for practicing having multiple wives who will produce them many offspring that will have their father's name on their birth certificates.

I would like to say that while I did not agree with DOMA, many users on this website predicted this exact situation would happen as a result. The gay community is winning victory after victory in the same sex marriage realm. However, every action has a reaction. This, I believe, is a reaction to that. This judge really has no precedent anymore to rule against polygamy. Nor does any other Federal judge really.
