China lands Jade Rabbit robot rover on Moon

I don't think environmental impact occurred much before the industrial revolution though I did read where the Egyptians literally ruined much of their own environment with the sheer amount of wood burned for kilning the bricks/blocks to build the Pyramids. Don't know if that's true or not.

Easter Island, the Anasazi, even Europe before 1492 severely damaged their environment. The first two actually died out; the third probably would have had they not found the Americas. The fish were gone from the rivers, the forests depleted. Everything hung in the balance, IIRC.

Very informative you did your legwork. I remember now how England being an island of limited resources competing with France and Spain was forced to expand their empire worldwide. The English East India Trading Company was one of the biggest and most influential of its time due to spice trading at first, then other commodities.

All I know about Easter Island are those big heads they made of stone.

China rands on moon!

Did they discover the craters are filled with flied lice?

Maybe the can use it to take picture of the Apollo Landing sites to shut up the Moon Conspiracy nuts.

The Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter already did that, resolved all Apollo landing sites down to a few meters, as well as the Soviet landers and rover.

But, that is never enough for the conspiracy nuts....

Sure, but you know what China has a ton of
that we don't have so much of anymore? Momentum. We can't even create a decent train system because it's immediately sucked into the culture war. China wants a train? Bam. Done. The more we rest on our laurels and celebrate our past accomplishments, the sooner the rest of the world is going to just pass us by. You could almost say that it will leave us in the dustbin of history.

Meh, I don't think we have to rest on our laurels, or our past accomplishments.

Truth is, there's isn't enough of a practical incentive to land anything on the moon anymore. Until we develop warp technology ( light years away ) we should focus on inceasing our terestrial technology.

China's spending billions to learn discover what's already been discovered and while their doing that the rest of the world is following Mars rovers around.

One company that makes solar panels is interesting in wrapping the entire moons equator with enough panels to power the entire earth's energy needs several times over. The problem they're encountering is transferring the energy to earth stations. Another company is interested terra-forming the moons surface with minerals and chemicals to see if greenhousing is possible. So there is some interest.

But, Japan is the first country to land on an asteroid. And it flew back to earth and returned samples.

Picture shows the shadow of the spacecraft Hayabusa before it landed on asteroid Itokawa.

Lol...sorry, I got the mental image of a Super Bike parachuting down to the surface of an Asteroid stuck in my head now.

Meh, there hasn't been any real breakthrough in wireless energy transmission that would make that project practical.

Your talking about Solar power ( DC ) being converted to a usuable power ( AC ) via massive Inverter technology, and thats were it would stop, at the moon.

The moon isn't in a Geo-Synchronous Orbit either, so your'e talking about bouncing a wireless beam of energy around and then down to a reciever that then stores that energy.

Its a waste of time.

Solar has already been exposed as a scam for the most part.

So NASA confirmed NASA's earlier story!

Maybe they'll add something to the knowledgebase for a change, instead of stealing it.

They'll get a bout of paranoia and purge their space program.

Uh, I think you're wrong. Here's an excerpt from the article....

Power could be beamed to the Earth through microwave power transmission antennas, about 20 m (65 ft) in diameter, and high density lasers, both guided by radio beacons. Microwave power receiving rectennas on Earth, located offshore or in areas with little cloud cover, could convert the received microwave power into DC electricity.

The company claims that its system could beam up to 13,000 terawatts of power around-the-clock.

Even NASA proposed this as far back as 1989....

They have loaned the USA a lot of money, lots of which they earned by selling the USA various items now cheaply produced in China which used to be produced in the USA by people who are now unemployed.

Now say Thank You Wal-Mart.

And firsts for a lot of things.

If you were one of the first civilizations, you would do many things first.

It is what has happened since that is the problem.

By problem I mean they haven't contributed much to the world other than cheap plastic items.

The saddest part is that so many people are stupid enough to think Chinese people don't pronounce L's.

Look at how many are in this thread.

The sad part is that a lot of people don't have a sense of humor.

The insulting thread title combined with the opinions of others just goes to show that Americans are brainwashed to hate China.

Everyone in China is celebrating right now. This is a huge accomplishment for them. They went from a backward rural wasteland in the 70's to a thriving world economic leader, with 10% per year growth. Even when China does something right, ignorant Americans will find a reason to badmouth them about it.

What is insulting about the title?

Unfortunately, they are still a brutal, oppressive, communist dictatorship. Specializing in human rights violations. Oh, we don't have to look to hard to badmouth these jerks.

I don't hate China. I rove China.

For the record, I am in no way racist. Not even close. I do have asian friends who play on this as well (a huge percentage of my graduating class was of asian decent), 99% have a great sense of humor about it. They call me round eye. It's all in good fun.

Current. China's global economic contribution is tremendous. And who invented the plastic you refer to?
