"Traitor Jang Song Thaek Executed" blared the headline posted by the state-run news agency about the man who, until recently, had been regarded as the nation's second-most powerful figure. The story said that a special military tribunal had been held Thursday against the "traitor for all ages," who was accused of having attempted to overthrow the state "by all sorts of intrigues and despicable methods." It added, "All the crimes committed by the accused were proved in the course of hearing and were admitted by him." Once his guilt was established, Jang was immediately executed, it said. The KCNA report described Jang as "despicable human scum" and "worse than a dog," and said he had betrayed his party and leader.

I'm more so interested in what his uncle was actually advocating. We'll never know but it's nice to think that there are still those who could possibly value Liberty over authority in the North Korean government.

I'm glad you're sooo soothed by the expediency in which the North Korean leader murdered his own uncle.
The true embarrassment for our country is that we both still have death penalties. Period. If you don't want the similarities recognized, perhaps we should grow past our archaic penal system.

This is about political consolidation or a failed coup attempt, not really part of the same monster as an institutionalized justice system.

    You're welcome

Next time pony up and spring for the James Earl Jones package. It's far more dignified

That's hilarious. Chances are the death penalty preceded the trial in this case. The two systems aren't analogous at all.

Well I can certainly see how executing convicted murderers in the US is the same as executing political offenders in North Korea.

Uh-huh...is there any chance that you're actually going to get around to criticizing North Korea any time soon. You know...the subject of this thread.
Blind dissent is as foolish as blind patriotism.

Perhaps, or perhaps he really was guilty of the things that were reported... who cares? State sponsored murder is still murder and we should be past that as I believe all other developed "western" nations have managed. They aren't collapsing under murder rates or other crime because they don't have the death penalty. As a matter of fact, isn't our murder and crime rate much higher than most? If it made sense, regardless of the morality, perhaps, but there's no evidence it's helping..... But just as rightie tighties want to hang on to many policies that have been tried and failed, y'all refuse to see reality. Not all seemingly logical ideas actually pan out, the death penalty is one.
