Senate aide suspected of distributing child pornography - latimes.com

By Morgan Little December 11, 2013, 4:09 p.m.

WASHINGTON - A senior aide to Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of possessing and distributing child pornography.
Law enforcement officials took Ryan Loskarn, chief of staff in Alexander’s Washington office, into custody after seizing evidence in his home.
Loskarn was scheduled to be arraigned Thursday.
Alexander said he was "stunned, surprised and disappointed."
"I was just informed by United States Senate legal counsel’s office that law enforcement agents are conducting a search of the personal residence of Ryan Loskarn, the chief of staff of my Washington, D.C., office regarding allegations involving child pornography," Alexander said in a statement.
Loskarn was placed on leave without pay. Alexander named his legislative director, David Cleary, to replace Loskarn as chief of staff.
"The courts will judge Mr. Loskarn’s guilt or innocence, but under these circumstances, he cannot continue to fulfill his duties as chief of staff of this office," Alexander said.
Loskarn, 35, became Alexander’s chief of staff last year. He previously had served as communications director for Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) and a staff assistant for former Rep. Wally Herger (R-Calif.).

Oh my those family values Republicans are at it again. /sarcasm

Regardless of party, that is a pretty messed up thing to do. If convicted jail will not be kind to him.

In all fairness I cannot see how this reflects badly on Lamar Alexander or the GOP. How would he have known this guy was a pedophile and its not like these sick individuals are just in one political party.

I agree that both parties have the screw ups and their oddball sexual behavior, but this is on an entirely different level than adult sexual shenanigans, even adult shenanigans with diapers, or tweets of one's penis to ... an adult, or even compared to corruption. And which party is the first (as far as I know, and hopefully only one ever...) to be connected to pedophilia on an apparently pretty big scale??? The "family values" party aide.

How about multiple men? David "diaper" Vitters, Larry " foot tap" Craig. Etc etc

No. It's only a very small percentage of Republicans that do things like this. You can't extrapolate them out to the entire party.

That is a fairly loose connection. I am sure that many folks have made mistakes in hiring help, including those that hired (unknown to them) pedophiles or child abusers to babysit their kids. That does not make hem bad people, just sad people. If you are asserting that this behavior was known and covered up, then that would be a story, but simply making the honest mistake of hiring one that had secret personal problems is not a big deal.

Yep. It ranks right up there with the POTUS having an extramarital affair in the White House and then lying about it. ;)

Are you seriously comparing adultery equal to child pornography and pedophilia? Seriously??

No. I am comparing the actual, personal, intentional moral failure (twice, once by adultery and next by lying about it) to that of guilt by association with the (unknown?) moral failure of another.

That's pretty damn terrible.

Still the disgusting moral failings of one man does not reflect on the entire party.

Correct. A pedophile is not apt to share that kind of information about himself to others. I was surprized he is only 35 yrs old. When I saw Chief of Staff I just assumed he be 50 or older.

But if he was distributing child porn it would be interested to see who he was sharing it with. Surely this was a major shock to Alexander.

Not the same at all. POTUS was a situation of two consenting adults.

I heard about this on the radio and I knew it would be used to blame all Republicans. I would have been disappointed if this thread hadn't been started.

I in no way 'blamed' Republicans... just noticed that it was a Republican, and as yet the most heinous of sexual misconduct to date is with the party that tries to claim it's all family values crap. Noticing facts is not blaming. Calling it blaming serves what purpose to your cause here? Are you trying to defend this or deny the accuracy of anything I've typed?

I am not comparing the different nature of the moral lapses here, as was also assumed by another poster, I am pointing out the difference between an immoral act done by another "connected" person (Alexander Lamar did nothing at all - his employee did but not even at work or in front of the boss) and two immoral acts done by the actual person in question (Bill Clinton did commit adultery and lied about it).

As much as I love to hate on Republicans you can't really blame anyone other than Loskarn and has nothing to do with political affiliation.
Oh come on, don't ruin my schadenfreude. You know they went after Weiner like wolves, and definitely tried to paint the whole party all the way back to Clinton, probably even Kennedy. It's ridiculous for us to try to be PC with folks such as they, imo.

I know exactly what your purpose is (as does anyone with an ounce of objectivity). Tell me, where you have ever seen that (R) or (D) designation for members of a politician's staff? Oh, and guess what, just because he's a staffer for a Republican, doesn't mean he is one. I work for a Democrat.

That's actually kind of funny though not quite accurate IMO. Democrats generally hold high standards for themselves they just don't preach about it. And Republicans like to say they are more moral because of their stances on homosexuality, religion, etc. that many Dems don't see as morals but as choices, diversity, and in some cases immorality. So its not quite an apples to apples comparison anyway.

I wonder what a depiction of Sarah Palin preaching about morals would look like with her daughter and grandchild in the picture.

Oh cut out the nonsense. Loskarn is the only party who should be condemned here.

Am certain you knew next would be all the " but look what your guy did though" yells. So it is played over and over.

I don't think either party should ever try to boast about their so called family values when you have all this crap in your closet. Hopping in bed with whomever or crawling around on the airport restroom floor to service other men is one thing but when they start messing with child porn you really can't get any lower. Sick.
