Pope Francis is Time's Person of the Year......

And that is why true Christians give to charities and use their money for the good. It does not however mean the state should confiscate your wealth and even things out as so many libs try to say.

I didn't say it meant that, I just said that I can understand a man who represents a Christian Church to tell people to be more giving with their money and who has some not too kind things to say about the folks who seemingly hoard so much money.

Never said anything about the state taking your money.

What the pope did was to bash unfettered capitalism which does not even exist. He is either grossly uninformed or is implying the US has unfettered Capitalism. Either way he made a dumb ass statement and somehow that makes him person of the year?

Do you bash communism? Does "unfettered" communism exist?

And I think the Pope, who's extremely educated, and has a large staff of extremely educated people working for him, isn't think either one of two stupid things.

And, speaking from the pov of someone who is actively involved with charities dealing with the homeless and people living in poverty, I can testify that the donations dry up in the bad times when people are most in need, so it's pretty dispicable for someone claiming to be a Christian to tell poor people to beg for charity rather than have the assurance of having enough to eat and have a roof over their heads!

If you are going to complain about taxes taking away your money, what do you think of the example in Acts ch.5, in the story of Ananias and Sapphira, where this wealthy couple were struck dead by the Holy Spirit for trying to hold back a little bit of their wealth, instead of giving it all for the common good, as all of the others in that early congregation were commanded to do?

That first century congregation is as communist as anything Marx or Engels could have thought up! And the prevailing theme of the New Testament is anti-materialism, not consumerist hedonism that today's right wing Christians have turned into their gospel. If you are a follower of Ayn Rand, like Paul Ryan, you can't also call yourself a Christian...and I think that's the message Pope Francis is trying to get across to his flock.

TIME is left wing like all the so called main stream media in America and leftist are know for biting the hand that feeds them.

If TIME is biting the hand that feeds them, it would be a first!

:lamo

I love it. The cognitive dissonance doesn't get resolved, it turns to hate.

It's a terrible year for some RWs. First Mandela is honored for his life's achievement by dozens of dignitaries and millions of people from around the world. Then, the current Pope is given Time Person of the Year. It's definitely not a good year to be a foaming at the mouth right wing partisan hack.

- Look at their complains:

OMGZ Obama took a pictz!
OMGZ Obama shook Castro's hand!
OMGZ the pope is mean to capitalists!

I do bash communism. Maybe the pope is not stupid but he sure did say something stupid. Why bash something that does not even exist unless you are implying it does?

Here's a bit of homework for you Sawyer.

Quoting his own words in your post, show us all exactly what he said was stupid.

Break it down line by line if you have to.

If you can demonstrate why you think it's stupid, I'll respect whatever you have to say.

Of course he didn't single out America, but if the shoe fits.......... Anyway he was critical of unchecked/unregulated capitalism that preys on the weak and benefits the elite. Of course all nations that are capitalistic societies have regulations, he just knows what all but the gullible and those that know better but it's not in their best interist to acknowledge, that they (regulations) are not always enforced.

Simple really, two words. "Unfettered capitalism". Where exactly does that exist? It does not exist so WTF was he talking about?

They didn't complain when Richard Nixon shook Castro's hand....Fidel Castro!

Is it really all news to you that corporate America is in control. The mega rich have historically stated that given control of the money they could care less who writes the laws, and surely you know what they mean by that.

America has plenty of laws to reign in capitalism so regardless whether you think it has enough laws or not it is anything but unfettered.

No,no, you miss the point. They are meaningless when not enforced. That's what the Pope means. Again, old money men told us long ago, they would prefer control over money than writing laws that control money. Quite obviously because the former influences the later. But it's been explained to you thirteen ways so, sorry.

Until he advocates for something you don't disagree?

Like abortion? The pope still advocates for that. He just doesn't see it as important as the plight of billions of poor people today.

Time magazine selected Pope Francis as its Person of the Year on Wednesday, saying the Catholic Church's new leader has changed the perception of the 2,000-year-old institution in an extraordinary way in a short time.

The pope beat out NSA leaker Edward Snowden for the distinction, which the newsmagazine has been giving each year since 1927.

"He really stood out to us as someone who has changed the tone and the perception and the focus of one of the world's largest institutions in an extraordinary way," said Nancy Gibbs, the magazine's managing editor.

It was the third time a Catholic pope had been Time's selection. John Paul II was selected in 1994 and John XXIII was chosen in 1962.

Besides Snowden, Time had narrowed its finalists down to gay rights activist Edith Windsor, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas and Syrian President Bashar Assad.

Time editors made the selection. The magazine polled readers for their choice, and the winner was Egyptian General Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi, who didn't even make the top 10 of Time's final list.....snip~

So what do you think about this selection? Does this Newly Elected Pope deserve this award? Do you think Time had Putin in on that Top Ten List?

Btw did the Pope show up at Mandela's funeral?

Reminds me of when Obama got the peace prize before he did anything.

I wasn't aware that the Pope is advocating for abortion. Will wonders never cease.

Not that I am against the selection.....but as you put it. He hasn't been around to long to do much.

Still when they polled their readers.....they were going with the Egyptian General as #1.

I thought #2 was Snowden.

So he bashed something that doesn't exist, and that's insulting to America?

Everything the Pope says though is news. Especially in the United States, where I think people got so used to the idea that the Church was pro-Republican. So whenever he says something that challenges that orthodoxy, everybody's all a twitter over here because "Hey, the Pope's not a Reagan Republican!" Isn't that what the outrage expressed in this thread comes down to?
