Obama shakes hands with Cuba's Castro in 'gesture of hope'

That's true, but it is probably time to move on. If we can become pretty good friends with Vietnam it maybe time to try with Cuba.

Vietnam released our POWs. Castro has at least one American in his political prison and without even the gesture of releasing him how do we move on?

I love when you get upset at your faux outrage exposed.

Especially when you try to use a lib label on me. It makes you look even that much more ignorant. :lamo

Yep, I'm a lib alright, didn't vote for Obama, don't agree with his policies both foreign and domestic, yet I'm a lib. :lamo

Your ignorance makes the day much better, thank you!

Standard lib trick is to make the thread about me instead of the subject. "Ye shall know them by their fruit".

Typical Conservative hiding behind a Independent label, always backpeddling when their lies and hypocrisy are exposed.

There's a thread topic here that needs to be what the discussion is about. I'll give you a hint and suggest that what lean posters are is not that topic.

They usually do so for a reason, when these dictators can be used in the best interests of the US. What was the excuse for this?

It would appear you condone the US supporting dictators (which are usually huge violators of the human rights of their citizens) when it's in the US's best interests. But the US's best interests are almost never yours and my best interests. And such selective enforcement of the penalties for the crimes of a dictator (prop up one, send the army after the other) is hardly becoming of a healthy democracy, but then Jimmy Carter did say................................

That's absolutely true. What does that tell us? Partisans are mentally damaged.

And, they represent the vast majority of Americans, its just DNA or something, tribal instinct, ones family, football team etc.

Anyway back to Obama bowing and scraping to this punk ass dictator.

And I'm sure the right was outraged when Bush did the same by holding hands with a dictator......oh wait, they weren't outraged.

Oh I forgot, when a GOP president goes prancing on the lawn with a dictator holding hands, that's presidential. However, when a Dem does something like that, it's an outrage. Sounds more like ODS to me.

Whatever happened to leave no man behind? When Castro makes a gesture by releasing him and other political prisoners then and only then should we reciprocate.

That's fine, Personally if we start normal relations with Cuba I am fine with it, if we continue on with what we have been doing since around 1960, I am fine with it. Either way I won't be upset. But one thing I do know, if after 60 plus years we have seen no improvement at all with the Castro regime, that perhaps it is time to try something else. What that is I don't know, but 60 years of sanctions have accomplished nothing outside of making some people feel good here in the states. They have not helped the Cuban people one bit.

The embargo is a glaring testament to the abject failure of US policy towards Cuba.

Cuban successes in spite of the embargo is a testament to the strength and character of the Cuban people.

Now you even have to plagiarize a term used by cons to mock those who hated Bush. At least try to be original and think of something yourself.

Do you also disagree with the embargo on Iran?

Embargo on Iran: Don't feed the bears as we don't want them hanging around the house.

Embargo on Cuba: Don't feed the birds as we don't want them hanging around the house.

The embargo itself is a different subject and I am not sold on its efficiency. I don't think full normalization with Cuba is the answer though especially since the Castro regime is not willing to give an inch.

What is it we want Castro to give us?

I guess he could start by giving us the American he is holding in his prison for trying to increase internet access in Cuba. That would at least be a gesture.

Sounds reasonable to me. Has anyone offered to normalize relations in exchange for the prisoner?

Sorry, I don't see your point.

The point is that you're wrong about young Cubans. They know the Castros and the rebellion that brought them to power. They know Cuban history when Batista, the US, and the Mafia controlled Cuba. They know the history of the Bay of Pigs.

They want to be Cubans, not Americans.
