granted that he could have used his bionic extender handshake. always the chance of hitting the wrong button and launching the rocket fist, though. still safer to lean in slightly, IMHO.

Yeah, this is as big a non-event has I've ever seen. Right on par with 'Surprise! Obama behaves properly at solemn event'.

Anything to detract from the continued bad news of ObamaCare.

ts not your call, it's not the US call. Castro has out lived many presidents, and we tried the Bay of Pigs.
Everything the US had done -even the "wet foot" policy of immigration is peculiar, and un-needed with Cuba.
They are a sovereign country, we have no right to tell them how to run their govt.

    Besides all this it's counterproductive.

That's nice and the Cuban people deserve the leadership they chose. We have relationships with worse leaders only when it benefits us, our nation. If Cuba wants to normalize let them come begging otherwise leave them to their own devices.

We wont tell them how to run their govt-we just wont trade with them.

They can drive their 70 year old cars and enjoy their wonderful healthcare.

Its a shame you draw a line at defending totalitarian regimes.

What - you don't want Cuban cigars? What do we get from other countries except the oil countries? You think Saudi Arabia is nicer than Cuba? At least Cuba has great, cheap resorts that everyone else in the world enjoys and we can't. Most African countries have little to offer, less than Cuba.

No, but he still has to be concerned about who he alienates from the Democratic Party.

Failure to recognize Cuba for the past 53 years is pure politics, starting with the cold war (which has been over for 22 years now) and ending with party politics. There is no logical reason for it.

In the intervening 53 years the Berlin Wall crumbled, the Iron Curtain rusted, the US has normalized relations with Vietnam, China and other former communist countries and dictatorships with current abysmal human rights records. While it is true that human rights are being violated in Cuba, much of these violations are taking place at the US Naval base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

It is estimated that at this point the embargo costs the U.S. more than it does Cuba. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce calculates that the embargo costs the US $1.2 billion per year in lost sales and exports. The Cuban Policy Foundation estimates it costs the U.S. economy $3.6 billion per year in economic output.

The embargo has only strengthened the resolve of the Cuban government and put the average Cuban citizens, who live only 90 miles from Florida, in severe economic hardship; denying them food, clean water, medicine, and cool American clothing, movies and cars.
Time to End the Cuban Embargo | David Mager

it's reactive thinking, it's outdated, it's counterproductive, and it's peculiar to Cuba, that we single them out for totalitaian regime.

    Boycott China???? Then why Cuba?
