And is officially a success?

It's just been released that the Government has sold it's last share of the last stock in which it owned of GM. Didn't Faux news say it would never be paid off?

It is now official, Obama has saved the Auto industry in America.

"The Center for Automotive Research study -- called ''The Effect on the U.S. Economy of the Successful Restructuring of General Motors'' --€“ found that the controversial 2008-2009 bailout, saved 2.6 million jobs in 2009 alone and $284.4 billion in personal income was preserved over 2009-2010."

You're now free to give Obama a warm thank you and apologize for calling this bailout a failure.

Please begin.

I suppose they'll say that GM wasn't the only entity bailed out and good for GM for paying us back but they shouldn't have needed it in the first place.

Link please.

It was not a failure. I suspect the USG lost a bunch of money on the deal and they can just print that up if they need it.

As it happens, I agreed with that bailout. Many jobs were saved. American prestige was saved. CEOs multi-million dollar paychecks were saved. Gulfstream jet sales were saved.

The issue might be why one company would be given special favors over another. We could save every company that way. Including mine. Including yours.

My most recent info was we are taking a multi-million dollar bath courtesy of GM... no links = hogwash

But it is a great attempt at humor

I didn't see anything in there about all the Republican owned dealerships that Obama closed down in the first couple years getting their businesses back.

I guess that will be coming later.

Per your first link we the sheeple are still out $10 BILLION, hardly a success. Too many more successes like that and we could be called bad investors. ;)

&We the people gained Billions of dollars from Tax revenue from all the jobs we saved.. I'd call that a success.

How much do you think we would have lost if we let gm fail?

Hey! Watch yo' mouf'! Elections are EXPENSIVE. $10B is just a droplet in the ocean.

So, thanks Obama. Good job. Sort of. Not exactly. Sort of. It's only money ya know.

Only the fevered imagination of liberals can call it a success.

So saving millions of jobs and billions in personnel income isn't a success huh?

We've gained a lot more in tax revenue from the jobs we've saved than any money we lost from the bail out..

Only in the Imagination of a con would that be called a failure.

I find it funny how cons will complain about the 10 billion tax payer dollars we lost from the GM bailout, yet not ONCE have I heard them complain about the BILLIONS of dollars we're throwing away in military spending making tanks and planes that will never be used.

The GM bailout made us more money than we lost in the long run and saved the American Auto industry.. What exactly has our wasted military spending got to show for us?

If the feds want to loan me $1,000,000 I promise to pay them back $800,000.

Wow, so the script has the GM bailout up to saving millions of jobs now? I guess you've abandoned your intial they paid it all back point.

"The Treasury Department has sold its final stake in General Motors, closing the book on its 2009 bailout of the auto industry. GM has been revived and is now profitable, but taxpayers are out more than $10 billion dollars.

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew announced the final stock sale late Monday afternoon, saying that Treasury ultimately recouped $39 billion through the sale of shares, dividends and loan repayments since 2009. But the government pumped $49.5 billion into GM to help it get through a bankruptcy reorganization."

So it 'only' cost the US 10 billion. Of course..with the added cash for clunkers programs and the fed buying GM rolling stock...that didnt hurt. Now...what will be the result 3 years from now? 5? And how is it even POSSIBLE Ford and Chrysler managed to survive...to say nothing of the foreign auto manufacturers in America.

Think this statement from Steven, as opposed to this one that opened the thread....

It took less than 30 minutes for steven to change his approach once it was pointed out through his own links that we actually lost $10 Billion on that "success".... Amazing...

We gained more money than we lost in the long run. That is a success. Take off your faux news goggles and join us in reality.

I doubt Faux will even report this story though. Or they'll try to give Bush Credit for the bailout

Thats why we are here. Some of us anyway. I change my mind based on things I learn in discussions here. If you don't let partisanship defeat your ability to learn, this (DP) is a great source of knowledge.

Is there anyone here who has never changed positions based on a revelation from another poster? If so, why are you even here?

(not you J-mac, I'm speaking generically)

Who told you such nonsense about the millions of jobs?
