Singapore hit by rare outbreak of rioting

"The breakout in Singapore's "Little India" area is likely to fuel concerns about discontent among low-paid foreign workers.

SINGAPORE - A crowd of around 400 people set fire to vehicles and clashed with police in the Indian district of Singapore late on Sunday after a man was hit and killed by a bus, the first major riot in the city-state for more than 40 years.

Police said they had arrested 27 suspects after the riot, which started after a private bus hit and killed a 33-year-old Indian national in the Little India area.
The riot is likely to fuel concerns about discontent among low-paid foreign workers. Last year, Singapore saw its biggest outbreak of labor unrest in years when around 170 bus drivers from mainland China went on strike illegally."

My comment: Around the world the lesson is learned that there is a HUGE social cost to allowing foreign nations of differing cultures in as cheap labor. Whether Muslims in France to Indians it Singapore to Mexicans in the USA. At first, they appreciate having the standard of living and economic values improvement over they country they left. But inevitably they want what everyone in their new country have - under principles of their original country. They also tend to racially and cultural segregate themselves not adopting their new country's values and social ways.

EITHER an immigrant should be allowed in as full citizens - or not at all. Guest worker programs don't work because they don't just remain guests. If you let someone stay in your house year after year, decade after decade, in exchange for being your servant, they come to not like being the servant - but also see the house as being as much their house as yours, plus hate you.

If the 27 arrested are deported (or otherwise never seen again) the other 373 rioters may not be so bold next time. ;)

Time to get out the cat-0-nine-tails.
