Of course. That is inevitable. Automation keeps getting cheaper, people don't. Sooner or later, sandwich makers wont be needed. And unemployment will then bump up another notch. Then they'll automate the FedEx drivers, and unemployment will bump up a little more. Then they'll automate crop growing, replace farmers. And unemployment will bump up a little more.

Then they'll automate your job. And you'll collect unemployment because you earned it. You are just a victim of circumstances. Not like those other lazy poors. The only moral entitlement is your entitlement.

Should read "are trying"...and as soon as it becomes cost effective...they will. That will be about the time fry cooks demand 15 dollars an hour for the arduous task of opening a bag, pouring fries in a basket, and punching a button.

Their job disappearing is inevitable. Their actions cannot prevent it.

But that point is made to illustrate the fact that "they'd have to double the price of a big mac!!" is incorrect. They'd have to slightly increase the price of food to maintain the same profit level. But why is that a given? Why do people think making less profit is a cardinal sin?
Exactly. I make about $17 an hour to do mail and shipping receiving. They hired me on at $15. Other companies that I interviewed offered me a slave wage. My company's philosophy is "you get what you pay for" If you pay someone $8.00 and hour, you're going to get $8.00 an hour of work out of them.

When fry cooks make $15/hr, the costs of making those machines will have risen too.

A touch screen menu, auto pay station like you see in the grocery stores, automated burger assembly. Just need a handful of people to take over. The problem I think is initial cost and upkeep/reliability. And we're getting there.
Climate, changes. It takes a particularly uneducated population to buy into the idea that it's their fault climate is changing and further political solutions can fix it.

At least you know the machines won't spit (and other things) in your foodlike substance.

But really, McDonald's are franchises, that means there's a variety of ownership and management. You're not going to get a unified strike going, ever. Not that it would make any difference, there are generally another bunch of fast food places within an mile of any McDonalds.

    Food for thought.
You are SOO right Deuce, they COULD. And they'd make a profit still. However, at least ONE FF chain wouldn't. And guess where investors would flock? Yeah, where the money is. McD's would lose investors, people would quit buying stock. That would kill the company. But hey, for a short while some burger flipper could make "a living wage". Good plan.
