In all fairness, the UN changed the scoring methodology last year to give much more weight to Star Craft 2.

    Home schooling is fine.

Is there a reason you imply that's the only alternative?

No summers off. My son worked full time at the academy with a normal vacation period of a week or two, as would be expected of any job.

Clearly, if you lived in Los Angeles, you wouldn't be so burdened.

However, one thing is very certain, families in most Asian countries make education a prime objective for their children, a concept far removed in the average US family. No amount of money will every overcome that deficit.
Add American Jews to that mix as well. How many Jewish people do you know on welfare? There's a reason for that. But you're right, the problem isn't money, it the emphasis on education by American families. We let the schools do what they please, and we are also now allowing them to raise our children with their (government) values as well. Additionally, we tell our kids that they can all be great mathematicians or scientists, or engineers, but the truth is that they all can't. Right now we have a massive shortage in skilled labor in this country but the education system isn't addressing it at all. People looking for work need to change their focus and learn how to do something else.

This is what happens when you wage war on teachers and education.

Many of them don't have a tax burden, so yes, they don't have taxes going towards school food programs or after hours programs.

And we spend more per child on education then any other country. in 2011 we spent $7,743 per child two times as much as the Asian countries do

so I don't want to hear any solutions that is about wasting more money on a broken system

First and for most we need to get rid of the teachers unions they are more concerned about stuffing their pockets then educating our children

second we need to pay teachers based on performance and not on tenure like they do every where else in the private sector

third we need to implement school choice let the schools compete for students and when there is competition there is improvement
    I'd make two points:

    1. The actual dollar value spent on a child is less relevant than the percentage of GDP spent on education, in my view - I think the numbers would be much closer if that analysis was done - US would still be high, but not unreasonably so in comparison to Canada, as an example.

    2. The testing results by country are deceiving, in my view, because Singapore, as an example, which rates highly, is small and very homogenized and much more easily standardized in the education children receive. The US and Canada, as examples, are vast nations in comparison, with multiple cultures, language, economic circumstances in both individual and state/provincial wealth. We have dozens of first languages spoken in our homes, particularly with increased immigration, and the levels of understanding of English are gaping. Also, when I look at the results for Canada, which rate fairly high, several of our individual provinces do much better than the country's average so I'm sure pockets of the US would have similar above and/or below averages compared to the country as a whole.
