HPD responds to accusations of racial profiling with Oklahoma teen, dancers

Since I am white, and I assume "the hood" is meant to be a non-white area:

Are you expecting that the police will stop/arrest me for looking racially out of place?

Are you expecting that I will likely be racially targeted by local criminals?

You'll be targetted by police, becaise they'll automatically assume you're there to buy drugs.

Because she (the daughter) is 13.

The instructors produced a notarized certificate of guardianship for the weekend, which was confirmed by the parents. This is a legal document, and the police had no business harassing either the daughter or the 2 dance instructors she was with. Their behavior borders on official oppression, and is clearly illegal.

Do you have proof of that, because I do not believe you. Why don't I believe you? Because I live in a mostly black neighborhood, and I have never had that problem.

What "hood" you live in? Channelview?

Google third ward, sunnyside. That's where I live. And for you to assume that, if a white person is in a black neighborhood, he must be there to buy drugs, then logically, you have to assume it's the black people who are selling the drugs. Do you really believe that black people, living in black neighborhoods, are drug dealers and pimps, and not working stiffs like the rest of us, just because they are black? If so, then that says a lot about you.

And I have never had a problem in this neighborhood.

Well, it's a reality that black neighborhoods are ridden with drugs.

So an undercover cop will blow his cover to ask me if I want to buy drugs?

I always heard that they put the really dumb police officers in those neighborhoods. ;)

So are white neighborhoods. Check out Channelview, which you alluded to earlier. It is a major location for meth in the Houston area, and it is almost lily white. Needless to say, you have told me a lot about yourself in this thread, which is why I'm glad I don't know you.

Some yes, some no. The smart dealers meet you at public places away from their homes. ;)

I'm very familiar with Channelview. I'm sitting in Baytown as we speak. I bet Sugarland is as drug ridden as Sunnyside, or Channelview.

Progressives defending their voting base - nothing new.

They do indeed. It's called a street corner.

Sometimes, but malls, restaurants, gas stations and convenience stores are preferred. Staying in one place too long alerts the police, best to keep moving the "drug store".

With all due respect bro, but, you haven't been around too many drug dealers...have you?

Look, I think the officers at a point exceeded their authority, but I sure don't want to discourage the police from checking on a 13yr old kid travelling with two much older men who obviously aren't relatives. Also think there's more to this than the parents are letting on. What sort of dance competition is this and what the hell, in this day and age letting your 13yr old go overnight anywhere with only older male teachers - that's just dumb. Open the freakin' newspaper if you need a clue as to why. The parents homeschool.

None of these things smells too badly alone, but together there's a whiff of something not so savory going on.

As a side note, anyone who wears their hat to the side like that deserves a customary beatdown to begin with.

That's has actually been a complaint by resident of east Austin. Putting less experienced cops in the worse places.

She just wanted to make a dance video in Houston, and had her parents' blessing. Instead, she ended up in a CPS shelter. Why? Because her instructors were both black. And, while her mother was attempting to clear this up on the phone with HPD, they accused her of bad parenting. "Do you realize that your daughter is with 2 black men?". Yea, they actually said that. Absolutely disgusting. These 2 black men were not pimps, kidnappers or rapists. They were freakin' dance instructors, and damn good ones too.

I hope her parents sue HPD for as much as they can get. They deserve it after what HPD put them through. And, dont dare to tell me that institutional racism is dead. If you really believe that crap, then you are living in a cave.

Article is here.

From Article excerpt:
.......13-year-old Landry Thompson, her instructor, 29-year-old Emmanuel Hurd and her dance partner, 22-year-old Josiah Kelly. They travelled from Tulsa to Houston, to work with hip-hop artists at Planet Funk Academy and tape a video.

In a statement, HPD said, “Given the age discrepancies...and the child had no relatives in the area, officers in an abundance of caution, did their utmost to ensure her safety” and sent her to CPS.

I dunno' Dana, with the age differences, I'm not L.E. but I might have considered the situation suspicious. I'm from an area where human smuggling is rife.
Not sure I can fault the Police but might question the parent's sanity ( 3 am )..

all things considered.

Why not the police, when the schools do it too? Experienced police officers and teachers are likely to leave the city if not allowed to get out of the hood. That may not be "fair" but it is reality. I guess they could try "combat pay".

As post script...... maybe that little girl should hug those cops..... lots of publicity for her video....

Any publicity is better than .............none

The whole thing reminds me of that little beauty queen girl in Colorado that ended up dead. Ramsey I think her name was.
They now think the parents were involved even though they're both dead. They may have given access to the killer.

I have two daughter and I'd be damned if they got to go anywhere at 13 without parents being there. (and other children)

Sugar Land isn't a black neighborhood either.
