HPD responds to accusations of racial profiling with Oklahoma teen, dancers

Yeah, so? Plenty of cases of "responsible adults" molesting kids of the same sex.

You either trust the people your kids are with, or you don't. If you trust a man with your daughters, it doesn't matter that he's a man, and if you don't trust a man with your daughters, you shouldn't trust him with your sons, either.

Yes. Two adult males. Two adult male professional instructors that the family had been working with and that they apparently trusted.

I don't see how there's a damned thing wrong with a 13-year-old sleeping in a hotel room by herself when she has two responsible adults sleeping in the same hotel.

Only one of the men was a dance instructor, the other male was her dance partner. So you don't see anything wrong with a 13 year old sleeping alone in a hotel room? Well I do. I certainly would not allowed any of my children to do so and neither do city ordinances almost everywhere don't permit such a thing. But even if you could get around the ordinances it means you have to be able to trust the staff of the hotel that knows your 13 year old kid is sleeping alone in a room. And then the other scenario is for her to sleep in the same room with two adult males. And you condone that also? I don't. But where did they all end up sleeping? It wasn't in a hotel room but in the car parked at a gas station. And you condone that too? I don't. You see nothing wrong with a 13 year old out at 3 in the morning on a weekend in one of the most crime ridden cities in the country sleeping in a car? I do. I don't give a **** what color the skin of the adults, their judgment does not warrant being made out to be responsible individuals. And as far as I am concerned, the parents of the 13 year old girl are idiots.

Would it make a difference if the 2 dance instructors were gay?
Not to me. It is inappropriate for a young girl to share a room with 2 adult males especially if they are not part of her immediate family.

I absolutely agree. The girl is 13 years old. If she has talent and was seeking to make a dance video, then why wasn't her moron mother accompanying her to do just that? Instead she sent along documentation. Wow how maternal. It is a friggin 7 and a half hour drive from Tulsa to Houston. The article stated it was a full day of "rehearsal" so there is no way that would be a round trip that could be completed in a 24 hour stint which begs to ask what were the motel sleeping arrangements? . This 13 year old minor had crossed the border with two adult men obviously not her parents. With the problem in many major cities over teen prostitution working under pimps, teen run aways, I think it was wise for the cop to check it out. For cripe sakes, the car they were traveling in had Oklahoma plates! For the cop to describe the men as being black when talking to the moron mother isn't racist. It was done to describe the men her daughter was with and skin color happens to be part of the description. If she had happen to be black and the two adult young males accompanying her were white the call to the mother would have been the same just the color of skin changed in the description.

I read from other sites and comments that is very normal for dancers to travel with the dance instructors not everyone can stop there life for a couple days. The mother put them in charged for a reason and had a note. authorizes them and they were adults. Sexaul abuse happens when usually close family ties. or someone in the family many people have pointed out. Just cause you don't agree with the mother in this case does not mean she did anythign wrong or illegal. BS the way the acted in look into. If they saw two white men with the 13 year old girl do you think they would of stop the car and took the child NO. race has no bearing on family either Look at Obama Dick Cheney is part of his family... No it wouldn't of and you damn well know it

You do know there more than one room in most hotel rooms? So in otherwords you rather danger teh child with family more. good god you people are way to strict and overprotect for these things. they as an adult two adults. one was the one in charged. there nothing wrong here. You don't have to agree with the parents but you don't know anyone here. There a reason the mother made the letter and everything.

First of dancing takes a lot out of you. they dose off while in gas station trying to get the gps and find the hotel. Secondly you don't decide what is responsible or not with someone else child that up to there parents. its a shame that people look at guys as just pervs whom want to get with a child. Its annoying and double standard i am sick of being judge this way. Women can do the same thing and yet there not judge this harsly. You don't need to agree with the Parents but they did whatever they feel was right. Personally putting her in CPS danger her more. These guys had to wait in parking lot for her at the CPS for 11 hours... i say that good caring. Learning to dance is not easy she got moves and shame on people who support this non-sense the parents were fine with it. I am fine with it.

That has been a feminist theme for about 30 years now, or more.

All men are rapist and are not to be trusted.

I do not agree with treating a child as if they are a porcelain doll. It is extremely harmful to the child.

In this case other than the fact that they were not well prepared and didn't have a room, I see no problem with 2 adult males taking care of a 13 year old.

A 13 year old is not a 7 year old.

I think I was more surprised that a mother was fine with her 13 yo daughter sleeping in a car with a 21 and 29 yo male(a)!! I guess that's just me.......

If they were school and scouting activities, then girls were chaperoned by women as boys were chaperoned by adult males. A Scout leader as well as other mothers or fathers in the troop always chaperoned overnight outings. In this instance they sent their 13 year old daughter with two males across state lines who would be responsible for their daughter. Since the trip involved overnight lodging, it meant the girl would have to sleep in a room by herself or share a room with two men. Neither exactly a good plan. If the mother would have went along, then she could have shared a room with her daughter and made sure she was off the streets at a decent hour. I don't know of any sane parent that would call keeping their daughter out in downtown Houston till 3:00 in the morning on a weekend parked at a gas station where all three were sleeping inside the car being responsible. It doesn't take much to come up with several different ugly scenarios that could have turned into.

People who don't have kids, or those parents who feel their kids are their equals!

To make wise decisions for the safety of a child is treating them like a porcelain doll? Really? I believe it is part of being a responsible parent. In your own words you admit these men were not prepared because they didn't have a room. A responsible parent would have insisted on that being the case before even allowing their child out of their sight WITH ANYONE. And to most parents it is improper for a 13 year old girl to share a hotel room with men not being a brother or father. You can trust someone with your child but in this case because the dance instructor is a male, there are some places he can not look after a young girl such as when she needs to use a public restroom. It is no secret that public restrooms late at night and early morning hours can be plagued with illicit sex, rape and drug deals. It is also a place where creeps abduct young girls for sex trade where they watch for those heading to a bathroom alone and are easy prey. Having everyone sleeping in a car in the early morning hours are sitting ducks for a gang to overcome them, rob them or worse.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation made the announcement Monday morning, touting the arrest of 150 alleged pimps assumed to be involved in selling minors through an underground sex trade that exploited missing teenagers around the country.
The children, mostly girls, ranged in age from 13 through 17, though investigators say most age 16 or younger.

FBI recovered 105 missing and sexually exploited children ? RT USA

Maybe if parents acted more responsible, there wouldn't be so many cases such as these. It sounds from the article this dance practice was a big deal for this young girl. Why wouldn't the mother want to be there for her daughter? Most parents I know certainly would wanted to be there. If anyone comes out looking bad in this story it is the mother IMO. And if she continues to make irresponsible judgments in the future, she may not be so damn lucky the next time because her kid might not be coming home.

Do you think your plan was to drive to Texas and sleep in the car? They actually planned it that way?

As to your second point, we are back to porcelain doll.

Would it make any difference in the sleeping arrangements if the two men were gay? That is highly likely considering the business they are in.

Is it more appropriate for a 13 year old girl to sleep in a room with 2 gay men or a 2 women?

The story is about two men, and a 13 yo, not two women and a baby. Can't we discuss the facts without hyperbole or hypothetics?

No. The point has been made that because she was with two men, it was inappropriate.

So that begs the question, would the police have taken the girl to jail if she had been with two women.

Women seem to think "Young, Male, Guilty"

What was the danger the police were trying to protect her from? I would like an exact answer to that.

Sounds like you are taking it personal because you are a man. It's not just women who would find it 'more' inappropriate(or less comfortable) b/c they are male. I bet if we did a poll, most men would feel less comfortable with their daughter driving across the state with 2 men rather than two women. It's just the reality, and yes it's based off of statistics.

Maybe you are right but a man will not automatically assume the 2 men would harm the girl in anyway.

This was her dance teacher and partner. I am sure they have worked together many long hours for years.

So what danger was present at the time for the police to take the girl to jail?

I don't agree with the cops actions and believe their assumptions were more based on race than based on them being male. I was just echoing why it doesn't look right. The whole'' avoid the very appearance of evil''comes to mind. In general I just wouldn't be ok with it, and I AM a dance mom and a dancer myself!

Well, I'm a man, too... and you're goddamned right I take it personally when people say I can't be trusted around children because I'm a man. Thank you for noticing.

Goes further than a gender thing with me. I don't let my kids have sleepovers unless I am friends with the parents . I guess the parents of the kids I don't allow it with should take it personal too. My kids have asked if they could have friends sleep over and some parents won't allow them to sleep over b/c they don't know me. I don't take it personal. I see it as a parent using caution. I won't apologize for erring on the side of caution when it comes to my kids.

Well, there's nothing in this story that implies that the girl's family didn't know the two men she was staying with. People really are basing their entire judgments in this case on the fact that it was a 13-year-old girl alone with two men, and that the two men were black.
